Been watching a lot of your videos the past few days...really helpful. I just want to comment on one thing that might help out people who do decide to make their own background. Instead of using cement, I used Drylok- a masonry waterproofer with concrete dye mixed in. I've had it in my tank for about 5 months now, and it looks as good as the day I put it in. I got all the foam for free, but it did take about 5 weeks to finish it. I wasn't in a hurry, so it wasn't a big deal, and it was fun!
@Hotlips4000isback Well that makes sense, as i am actually Irish. My heritage is anyways. I have never been to Ireland though. I know i probably sound "Canadian", but i have never been told i sound Irish. Funny you mentioned that.
You really do sound Irish, maybe spending time with family members who sound the same way has rubbed of on you, and the way you speak without realising it without even stepping foot in to the country! :p
@Hotlips4000isback that is the way proper canadians speak, lol they say things like aboot instead of about. its almost the native canadian twang lol i love it too!
@Hotlips4000isback hey, lol no i am actually scottish, but i have been to canada many times, have family there, i just love the country and the accent. lol
@strobel65 Absolutely. In a salt water environment, this background would also do fine. The texture is the same as a course rock, so coral would adhere to it with ease. Id love to see one on a saltwater tank!
@barrowscasper12 Its well worth it. The one i got was $269. Other styles they have are less. You wont find a cheaper price on Aqua-Terra backgrounds. You may find other brands cheaper, but not Aqua-Terra. You pay for what you get. Some may think its a lot, while others wont. Once you see it in person, you will find that it was well worth the price.
One trick to using concrete is to wash it down with white vinegar. It won't completely solve the problem but it can speed up the process. This applies to concrete ponds as well.
@baldboy123 No, you can drill holes near the top, or simply cut out an overflow. This isn't something i have done to this background at this point, as im not sure what i will be doing for actual standpipes, or water level.
Can you please confirm that these are in fact grey in color and not tan/brown. I very much wish to get this but only it it is grey. Thanks!

@FPChris These come in grey and brown. You need to specify which one you want when you order.

Great video!
I love you're accent :p
You sound slightly Irish, the way you pronounce certain words, then you go back to a Canadian accent.
Dublin springs to mind.

Is this background Saltwater/Reef Safe? if so, will corals attach to the background?

I do have one question.
will the background prevent water from skimming from the top of the tank thus leaving a film on top of water over time ?
baldboy123 8 months ago
