  • I'd rather watch "Barry Shitpeas Sick On A Widow" than half the shit currently on TV.

  • short description of Liz Lemon's life

  • Gosh. This is like many first jobs out of college.

  • Wow, This is all so true!

  • 3:18 after 3:19 for maxi,um effect.

I think Sick on a Widow and Grievers Get Gunged is better than the X Factor or Britain's got Retards.. i mean Talent.

  • Luckily, I jumped ship from my media degree to a philosophy degree.

Solid career path, here I come...

  • @leftovers0 oh lawds

  • @leftovers0 ha ha ha ha lol that was good

  • Christ, this is depressingly real...

  • 3:19 on repeat for maximum effect.

  • This was just hilarious when i first watched it on the full episode, i was in fits. If Grievers Get Gunged wasn't hilarious enough Sick on Widow happens and sends you in to a limp laughing mess.

  • @Sozlled you're a moron

  • @electricEntity81 Well, i'm convinced.

  • This video describes my life.

  • Ok apologies if this comes up twice! Stupid internet. Ok so I love Charlie Brooker in this scene, not only is he amazingly funny but he also doesn't seem to need to breathe! I would love to see this behind the scenes to see A. How long it takes Mr Brooker to learn his lines, B. How many takes it takes to get it that perfect and C. To see whether he needs a breathing apparatus afterwards!

  • And just how did Mr Konnie Huq get where he is in tv today, huh?! Smug twot!

  • When watching this guy emote, i can't help but be flushed with national pride. Lucid, wittily ironic, 'n' that.

  • To quote Orson Wells "It's about two percent movie- making and ninety-eight percent hustling. It's no way to spend a life".

  • Hate Him! Hate him! Hate him! HAAAAATE Him!

  • Charlie Brooker is a cruel bastard but i love it. Really quite sexy in his own way.

  • Anyone else get the vibe this is more Charlie expressing how he feels about his own career? Poor chap, I think he is doing quite well!

  • At the last minute I pegged it from Media Studies into Film Studies. I have no idea if this has saved my life or just simply put me on a different track that leads to the same shit creek.

  • @PushingPies Sorry to say it's probably the latter. But I, and all the other future failures, will meet you at the bottom of the creek with a buoyancy aid and a vodka tonic :)

  • @BradleySherwoodFan Ha! Cheers. I'll bring a paddle, because you never know. All good artists suffer and all that. *doomed*

  • Not Brooker's best.

  • It's hard to hear over the sound of my soul crying because of how true it is.

  • He claimed in his Guardian Column today that Jerry Sadowitz is never nasty about people, but I once saw him reduce a little boy and his dad to tears at a magic show with a tirade of "cunts" that would make a rock blush.

Brooker has become a hypocritical twat.

  • JUSTICE-GENESIS 1:43

  • Absolutely correct. Except it's slightly worse in real life. Because TV is a dying media that has a shrinking market. The only kind of TV where you stand any decent chance of making programming of genuine quality and integrity is sport. Everything else is vile, desperate, increasingly lower common denominator shite designed to extract text fees and phone in money from morons.

Here's a tip for assessing exactly how crap or not a piece of TV is - imagine it with the music removed.

  • And He is living the dream .

  • Thanks Brooker, my life's now doomed.

  • yay barry shitpeas is in this

  • So how does a producer create something that's decent on TV?

Does the Producer just say Fuck it to the commissioner and create something by themselves anyway, then when the commissioner nearly fires them the rating's go up because of the creation then they get Jealous for not creating it themselves? Then recognition sets in?

  • God, this is so depressing.

  • FUCKING CREDIT SQUEEZING

  • crimes bombs misery & shit

  • Last year Charlie Brooker suggested a campaign to beat the X Factor to Xmas #1 by releasing a 15 second track of children saying 'Simon Cowell: Shit for ears' a few times with all proceeds going to charity. The campaign to make this happen in 2011 has begun... check it out on Facebook by searching for "Simon Cowell, shit for ears" - 2011 XMAS campaign.

  • @hereticmagpie

Been done, too many imitators, won't work.

  • I'm up for an intense bonding session with a select co-worker... come on, who wants to hump the chaffinch...? damn I've given my surname away... no delete key, can only type forwards...oh shit, look, not a word, if this leaks out then I'm finished, bloody damn delete key... i told him to get it fixed, oh fuck it... hump me hump me.... for christ sake i wanna take the long boat to tuna town... there god damn you... 82 chars left no 66 no 60 shit its going down 35 bollocks well bye then 11 shit...

  • This is a thinly-disguised autobiography.

  • This is why I'm sticking to the techies. Hell yeah Radio tech opping!

  • so much for the BA hons in media in film studies degree i'm currently studying...

  • @89cheapmonday Yep. Waste of time. You can regard it as a history degree if you like. More a badge of study capability than anything of any use. You wanna make films? Buy a camera and some edit software.

Everything outside that is pure bullshit.

  • @Stkildaswish Unless you want to make bad, sloppy films with no sustinence then don't listen to this man. Like everything, you need to have some idea of how to exploit and employ certain techniques to make a worthwhile film. For example narrative devices, editing technique and mise en scene.

  • @revengeguy

You have a talent for stating the obvious. ^^

  • @Restayvien you say that, but people seem to be fond of criticising film students, perhaps because they have a grudge against people with real creative drive and ambition.

  • @revengeguy

how is media studies representative of real creative drive and ambition? people with real creative drive and ambition do something like Architecture or Graphic Design, a course that requires genuine effort and talent. Not a complete doss course that requires you to make a few 15 minute videos about utter drivel. If there was a course that actually required you to make a film worth wile, with emotion or meaning then fair enough, but at the moment it asks for shit and nothing else.

  • @Sl4y3rNeb You seem to be confusing Media/Film Studies with Media/Film production. I agree that a degree in Media STUDIES is perhaps not that useful. But one in PRODUCTION does require "genuine effort and talent". Anyone can pick up a textbook and derive from it, it takes a special kind of person to actually go out there and create something worthwhile.

  • As a filmaker who just finished a two year filmmaking course. I can agree with what you said to some extent. Alot of the riff raff are just there to show up, get there ema and leave. t. There are those of us though that want to make good content and try hard given the limited and resources. Also, you think that architecture is more creative then film making....each to their own I guess.

  • I have every season of Barry Shitpeas Punches Orphans Right in the Neck on DVD.

  • Hate him

    Hate him

    Hate him

    HATE HIM

  • This is all true but Charlie made it. :P

  • 0:30

    "Prepare to sell your soul"

    Signed. B.L.Zeebub

  • And now im questioning my Media Production course at Coventry University.

  • not if u get connections they really help and u can make more money than footballers

  • I've just got my first job at the BBC... OH DEAR!

  • @Roggerrabb1t - Holy chauaqua, how did u manage that?

  • A piece of pure, unadulterated genius!

  • This is the absolute truth.

  • I bet you can find 'Sick On A Widow' on ITV....

  • Haha. Sick On A Widow...

  • LOL B.L. Zeebub

  • The girl is kinda hot.

  • Haha Menopausal producer.

  • Oh no, this has slightly turned me off wanting to do a television course at uni, Cheers Charlie!

  • Hmmmm, glad I dropped 'media studies' after all

  • lol charlie is awesome

  • Thank you for letting me know.

  • as a media student, i find this rather worrying =/

  • @revengeguy

I know people who plan to go into television. Jesus, would they be scared to see this. Sad thing is, there is always a prat who gets the high up job because he is related to someone in the biz.

  • @yellowcougar18 every biz is like that, i worked it for 2 years at a world renowed jewelry, the boss was a idiot, and ignored security flaws, BUT he was childhood (gay) friend of the son of the company president....what can you do ? i left.

  • @bladerj Lool why did you slip 'gay' in in brackets there?

  • @revengeguy don't worry its more a slant at tv rather than media studies. you'll be fine 70% of media graduates get a job in the media field within 6 months compared top 50% of other main subjects such as English and media studies is the 7th most employable degree. (research by Westminster Uni if i remember correctly)

  • @108supra Utter bollocks.

If you want a great career in media, go to Oxford or Cambridge and do classics, mathematics, languages... anything that will keep you far away from a polyversity and a mickey mouse subject

  • sick on a widow!!!

  • lol 0:30 please come prepared to sell your soul xD

  • Thats what is excellent about Charlie, so many little gags, 0:30 - Beezlebub!

  • The saddest thing about this is that if Sick On A Widow was a real TV show, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised,

  • I love how the director shows up in practically every episode.

  • What is that song they play on the end?

  • @lofoten2223 The song is called 'Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack' by The Nice

  • i would like to recomment with....

LAMO & CMAO (cry my ass off)

  • lmao ahhahaha...

    oh how true....

  • legend is overused, but brooker is a real one. he tells and shows you what the world is really like and keeps it hilarious and true at the same time.

  • And it's 100% TRUE!!! I've lived it!

  • Haha, ok, so if this is what it's like from Brookers eyes, working on quite good shows with reasonable budgets on a fairly OK channel, imagine what it's like for the people making "Britain's Hairiest Cuntflaps" for BBC3 or Channel 5!

  • that's how tv works BAAAAA BA BADABA BAAAA

  • BARRY SHITPEAS, WHAT A LEGEND! XD

  • Unfortunately, everything about that is true.

  • that commisioner looks familiar cause its nepetist chithead boy from before

    LMAO

  • Sick on a Widow... I'd definitely watch that.

  • 2:00 is deeply disturbing. Hurrrrrrrrnggh!

  • Very good and very true...

  • sick on a widow...fucking amazing

  • hahaha..... spot on!!!!!!

  • the easiest job on a film set is sound recordist, don't have to learn the script, sat down all day, one box, small deprtment.

  • "and that's exactly how TV works!" lol!

  • I work for the BBC. I spat my tea out at the telly the first time I watched this, so funny and quite true on many levels.

  • @georgezippybungle

i have been a director for 25 years and must agree... it is tragically close to reality. i work with several female producers in their 40's and none of them have mates. they have a large variety of cats however!!!

  • excellent! hopefully this doesnt apply to the film industry... lol

  • It is much much worse and harder for the film industry and especially the british film industry

  • @methodmancy

well for starters if u dont live in a usa or india then most other countries film industry is tiny and even if u do get in it would play out pretty much like the video suggest except worse

  • he is so funny :)

  • i love charlie

  • I studied media at uni and it was a WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, so study something else!

  • LOL at Barry Shitpeas @1.04

  • That's it. I'm not doing media at college!

    Thankyou Charlie Brooker!

  • That is weird I know someone who has done exactly as the video shows as I'm sure many media students have....funny how they are so similar down to the very last detail....

  • Welcome to telly media students!!!

  • 'hate him, hate him, hate - him'

    this was amazing

  • that sad the truth no doubt, my advice avoid like the plague. Go make a difference doing something useful.

  • The way he says "credit squeezing" at the end is hilarious!

  • LOL just read Charlie Brooker's wiki. Apparently he did a degree in media but never completed it because he couldnt be arsed doing his dissertation

hey theres some hope for us!

  • looooooooooooool

  • Lol same here...... wait?..am i atleast like the 3rd person to say that on here?

shit are we all media/journalistic hopefulls realising we are at the bottom of this career path?

    :/

  • and that's if you're lucky

  • Charlie Brooker is very clever & getting better & better! Lets pray that fame doesnt change him! On a different note - I've never seen starwars on BBC4 is rubbish on TV... much better on radio!

  • Charlie Booker is spot ON! His show is great and he will only get better at taking the piss out of the crap parts of the media world.

  • I think I prefer Newswipe to Screenwipe. He is only getting better.

  • haha quality - "sick on a widow"

  • totally fucking mexico

  • Peace and fuckin'; believe.

  • Hahaha, "cant keep you warm on those cold winter nights"

    What a phrase.

  • A scarily accurate insight!

  • Thats not what i said - im simply saying that a career is just that a career - a career cant keep you warm on those cold winters nights if you put a career before family your always going to be left feeling cold.

Here in the west we place far too much emphasis on a job which explains why there is so much insecurity - start a family instead.

  • I don't work in TV but I remeber when I was in charge of the boses son, and then three years later he was in charge of me!

  • Why am I studying Television Production... argh! Hilarious though! xox

  • I'm doing media prod too.. shit:(

  • i can't stop laughing at sick on a widow!

  • "Before long you've become an assistant producer which sounds more impressive but means your doing more work than ever because f**k face here is the producer and he's a lazy boorish imbecile who spends all his time assing about lazily assaulting the runners"

You gotta love Charlie Brooker lol

  • i think i just saw my life flash before my eyes

  • well if this is true..i'm fucked.

    haha

  • same here. :|

  • Same here.

  • same here -_-

  • im goin college next year to do tv and film production ....

  • dont waste ya time

  • lol..... what did u go to uni to do ?

  • is that brooker dressed as the widow?!

  • The powers that be are still trying to force that tired "you can do anything you put your mind to" Bull Shit on us - but I am a realist and am well aware that its a numbers game there are simply not enough peachy jobs with plum salaries to go around - and the current job climate makes this fact even more stark .

Of course there are exeptions to the rule - and these are inevitably paraded around as examples but exeption is the word.

The sooner we stop deluding ourselves the happier we wil be

  • Umm... how did you get out of my head? Realist for the win... errr more likely 4th place.

  • "Said runner who is supposedly beneath you turns out to be a backward feckless cretin" rofl :). Love Charlie Brookers depressing humor.

who plays the woman whos the center character?, she's quite pretty

  • I have a friend in TV, Brooker is right... again.

  • Yeah, my friend who works in telly showed me this recently. Practically every event in the clip is something I remember him telling me about over the years. Scarily accurate...

  • Was this made by Endemol? I recognise the meeting room in one of the sequences. Bet they didn't show it to their staff. Endemol are one of the worst offenders at what CB is on about . Yes, young people, Unless you know you are Stanley Kubrick reincarnated, or are related to the MD, or have an unearned income, find something else for a career.

  • Im currently at the point of deciding whether or not to take a btec Film and Tv course or my A-levels.

If Charlie is right about all this, then I'm having doubts now lol

  • What makes you think he's joking?

Obviously, the people teaching the film course will tell you otherwise (because they're paid to. If they knew what they were actually doing they'd be working in the industry, not teaching it), but Brooker is spot on.

  • Brooker is the online Dan Ashcroft

  • Man am I in for a world of pain.

  • Id Love to puke on a widow.

then shed faint due to shock and

Id rape her in her wifes open grave. It's nice when life is so

    simple.

  • lolwut

  • That was fucking brilliant!

  • id feel sorry for the useless fuckers working in 'the industry', but those ive been unfortunate enough to meet have been total twatfwappers

  • LOL at the Evening Standard billboard "War Crime Bombs and Shit". How true!

  • hahaha. "New show, 'Sick On A Widow'"

  • name on letter "B.L Zeebub"

    nice

  • the industry's full of babyboomer cretins its true ..

  • It's only a shitty path if that's the one you choose. The trick is to keep your head down and get stuck in. If you have the chance to fuck over a twatty producer then do it. The majority of people who complain about working the media are the arseholes who'd complain about anything. It's beats standing at a sink for 10 hours a day washing dishes.

  • Well mate, I would rather that than having to spend 17h hours in an edit suite with you. Now run along and get me my tea!

  • He's got it spot on.

  • It's a comedy, get over yourself. Wow your working for Endemol, that's much more morally just than being a doctor or actually contributing to this world.

  • wow endemol..... has like 3 watchable shows.... you must be very proud of yourself!!!! Have a gold star!!!!! You've earned it!!!!!

    twat

  • Iv'e just realised something, Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe is an Endemol production. Is there something you're not telling us?

  • well done you gonky twat you work for a company which makes sows no 1 likes congrats for you

  • you spelt 'shows' wrong.

  • I know my h button is weird it requires alot of pressure to use

  • That'll teach you to mop the Jizz off your keyboard next time.

  • no its a silicon keyboard silcon eventually wears out Thus rendering they keyboard eventually useless

  • What do you do at Endemol?

I work at the LA office.
