  • 3:11 "goodnight" "GUH-NIGHT!" "goodnight" "GUH-NIGHT!" xD

  • the dragon is a boy The Disney wikia said so!

  • disgruntled horse ftw

  • the only thing this dragon needs is wings then she will be a dragon

  • Awww. That was so cute, I've never seen that before.

  • The injustice of it all is that the dragon never did anything. Nowadays, this would be a story about proving his innocence.

  • I think that dragon is mad...

  • LOL - I love SIr Gile's horse! This should be called the Pacifist Dragon...

  • HORRAY FOR GUILE! HORRAY FOR DRAGON!

This guy...ugh no words

  • Why would it matter if the dragon is gay?

You guys are killing my childhood : (. Oh the infinite sadness.

  • "By jove. Jam."

This is one of the few Disney films to make me laugh out loud through the entire thing. XD

  • what a great radish-chomp sound effect.

  • ROFL- the horse is like: "Assholes..."

  • @SuperKBros Agreed. XD

  • Bbb.bbb.bb.b.bboyyyy!!!!!!!!

  • if they make a movie of this they should say she instead of he cause its a female dragon

  • Stop acting the silly arsehole will you?!? ;D 6:56

  • The Dragon's death scene looks like something out of Shakespeare doesn't it?

  • The Dragon is also seen in The House of Mouse. But not the boy or Sir Giles.

  • This Dragon is NOT female! REPEAT: NOT female!!! He is a plain male homosexual (gay) dragon!!!!

  • @mranthonyallen2

he isnt gay, just because he has a "camp" attitude doesnt mean he's gay.

  • @mranthonyallen2 its female theres proof on house of mouse ladies night show

  • the dragon is quite camp but he's not gay. they wouldnt dare make gay charatcers back in those days because being gay was not accepted in open society.

  • I'll bet anything there's an evil dragon who comes and he actually has to fight

  • Best poem ever

  • at 0:12 HOW THE FUCK DOES THE DRAGON TIE HIS OWN EARS IN A KNOT WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THEM!!!???!!! HOW!?!?!?! IT DOESNT MAKE ANY FNAIEGBAIE!!! WHAT IS THIS I DONT EVEN!

  • lol, the poor horse looks SO bored!

  • Despite how effeminate the dragon acts, I actually think he's at least capable of standing up for himself. After all he does get angry and breathes fire when the boy insults his poetry, so I don't think anybody would ever make fun of him for his effemiante ways.

  • Sir Giles has a spear just like this from a n*****. Just kiddin.

  • 5:57 to 6:02 LOOOL love this..best dragon ever ^^

  • He's not gay, he's English lol

    Awesome cartoon

  • Is it just me or is there a hint of sexual tension between Sir Giles and the dragon?

  • I would totally fuck that dragon. What? Just me?

  • I love the look on the horses face, when they fake the fight, it's like, "Oh what am I dooing with my life!"

And the whole, Sir Giles chases the dragon out all dramatic like, then the boy thepsout with the lance, and calls out, then sir Giles, is seen charging with a tea-cup, and exclames, "Egad." LOL, I crack up every time.

  • the horse is just hilarious during the fights, it looks so annoyed!

  • this shit is weak! i remember watching this as a kid and cheesing out! it's even funnier now!

  • aww this dragon reminds me of one of my friends... :]

  • Wait: they want to hold the fight ... just to entertain people?

  • @HyaenusDominae No, to trick them into thinking the dragon has been subdued.

  • @herpybobo Considering the farcical nature of the fight, and the Dragon's attitude towards the whole thing, I'm sure the crowd knew that it was all for pretend as Sir Giles and the Boy both told the village that the Dragon was harmless.

  • @herpybobo Also, they must have known that the Dragon was only pretending to die as the lance was tucked under his arm the whole time, and it wasn't hurting him.

  • I love how this cartoon makes a mockery of stereotypes and the traditions of what a knight and dragon relationship should be. It was greatly ahead of it's time when the mold was just being broken, if only to comedic effect.

  • Hear hear!

    I totally concur!

  • at 7:33 did sirgiles call the dragon a bugger? lol XD

  • seening this knights armour reminded me that I never realised until last week that Henry VIII's suit of armour had a ''special part at the front of his cause he had syphillis ouch but odd O.o well they were not the best people with sex and protection back then. at least we have safe choices and experts help now

  • @sjclassics That's one theory as to the reason for cod pieces, but by the time parade armor suits saw cod pieces it was more likely that it was purely decorative. Still, we'll likely never know unless we find some detailed account.

  • @herpybobo yeah he supposedly slept around a lots so syphillis was a possibility. I also read that the cod was used as a protection as his penis was too painful due to the syphillis. but what ever the reason. he was nasty peice of work and he slept around. and with sleeping around there is a risk of some sort of infection or desease. but unless we ask a historian we can never be too sure anout him ;o)

  • @sjclassics Codpieces are so deffinately NOT some accessory neccesitated by an STD. No not at all, not ever. They were a cover for a gentleman's "cod" ie. tackle, goodies, frank and beans, etc... They became at one time very large and flamboyant as a statement of a man's masculinity. Research please.

  • @sjclassics Syphilis is the worst.

  • @sjclassics

I don't think Henry VIII actually had syphilis. I think that was a common misconception because so many of his contemporaries had it or died from it.

  • @mchapin86 OMG eww really? Thats nasty. Ewwww

  • At the end I never got what he meant by not terrorizing the country ANYMORE. When exactly was he ever terrorizing anyone anywhere?

  • What happened to the little boy?

  • A Gay Dragon + A Stereotypical British Knight = A MASTERPIECE!!!

  • is their a part with a train?

  • Are there the other parts?

  • HAHAHA! -I remember this from childhood...

but it's funny now cause' the dragon is gay and the knight is just painfully-British...

    lol, thankyou.

  • They both have UK accents.

  • 7:01 good lord they swore in a disney cartoon '0o0'

  • An ass is an animal, wasn't really a swear word back then and in that usage it's not a swear word today.

  • @herpybobo This would be true... if Sir Giles hadn't said "arse" instead. :-O

  • @darmokthegreen Didn't sound like arse to me.

  • @geardog24 Im going to have to disagree with Herpybobo. this was made int he 40s and ass most certainly was a swear word. He wasnt saying to the dragon "Dont be a donkey" I asked my grandma who was alive during those times sooo......yea. I dont think it was as harsh as a swear word as it is today and also cartoons werent as censored back then as they are now for children. Look at Betty Boop and he consistant panty showing. =/

  • @Spitfyrus An ass isn't a donkey, an ass is an ass. It was an insult because asses are sterile and generally useless because of their temperament/stubbornness. This is the meaning when someone says something like "dumb ass" or "quit making an ass of yourself". This is most certainly the intended definition in this case as well.

The "butt" usage of "ass" is actually a mispronunciation of arse that was popularized by sailors.

  • I had never seen this before, so thanks for posting!

Being an animator, i LOVED how the dragon was treated. Such fluidity and good acting. My jaw is still dropped.

The only thing that stood out was the background colours for this film. The "blue" sky does not do it for me, when the dragon's skin is also blue. I wonder if the studio thought about that.

  • If you get the4 chance I highly suggest checking out the Thief and the Cobbler (specifically the "recobbled" version). The film has a rather windy history, but of this aforementioned version, what has made it to the public is a masterpiece of the craft.

I think the choice they made was the right one as far as the colors went. The contrast between the dragon and sky was still readily readable and the subtlety of contrast softened the dragon's appearance.

  • @herpybobo: You really think blue on blue was the right choice? I agree, the sky tone is softer, but logic would suggest to use a complimentary sky colour right?

And thanks for the film suggestion, btw. I'll check out the Cobbler soon.

  • The character would have felt more alien in the surroundings with a complimentary and as a result the audience would be less likely to sympathize with him. Not to mention that orange is a color of energy, danger, and reminiscent of fire. It would have been a bad choice for such a peaceful character. Complementaries are not always the right choice and they're certainly not the only or "best" color scheme. I feel that the dragon being a greenish-blue added enough of a color contrast.

    No prob.

  • @herpybobo:

Maybe not complimentary, but anything else other than blue. Yellow is a peaceful colour. Anyway, this is subjective. I just don't think blue on blue works.

  • What about the greenish-blue character on blue and cream BG doesn't work to you?

  • I have this and he's right. It's awesome.

  • 0:13 "REALLY OH HOW NICE!"

    I lol hard every time.

  • LOL

i always laugh at the parts when the horse looks at the dragon and knight thinking "you gotta be kidding me......."

  • The Eager Fagon

  • And, they made such a fuss over Tinky Winky......ROTFL

  • Oh boy. The dragon is having trouble about fight. But I still like him. At least now he breathes fire now. He and Sir Jiles are just playing along. Hehehehe.

Ahh. Now this is my kind of show I loved the most since my childhood days.

  • That dragon is so cute and his effeminate personality just makes him adorable. (No I'm not attracted to him.)

The only bad thing is that we're not 100% sure if he's gay or not. A man can be effeminate and not be gay.

  • He's just supposed to be a fop, but the current stereotypes are fun to poke at.

  • True, he's a very fancy and polite kind dragon, perhaps a metro. :)

  • Well I am, he's a doll!

  • Well I am and he's a doll!

Trust me he ain't no straight arrow, but what the hell, who cares.

  • @StephenP18 I'm quite sure he's gay... it's original definition, I mean.

  • @StephenP18 Agreed. I dont think Homosexuality was openly accepted during those times anyways. Homosexuals had to hide their sexuality or be socially persecuted. He is just a dragon that likes things we consider feminine. I know a few guys like that and they arent gay at all!

  • @StephenP18 Well, I am. :) Rawr <3

  • Well I am, he's a doll!

Considering it was made in '41 and a morals play, I can only conclude that he's gay.

    It's more than obvious.

  • Well I am, he's a doll!

Considering it was made in '41 and a morals play, I can only conclude that he's gay.

    It's more than obvious.

And Giles does call him a silly ass!

  • punk

  • 'Tis ev'ning.

    From the stars above,

    a soft, mysterious light

    brings thoughts of friendship,

    joy and love.

    NOW ABOUT THAT FIGHT??!!

  • he's a diva lmao

  • i love the knight's walk as they walk away after talking to the dragon! lol

  • You know, I just realized that the whole cartoon is set as a big poem.

  • 5:29 He's Flaming! LOL!

I just find this cartoon humorous! The dragon makes Snagglepuss look manly.

  • Who felt sorry for Sir Giles' horse?

  • thank you so much for thus

this is my favorite cartoon , i watched it first when i was 6 or something

    im now 20

  • 7:21 - the horse is like WTF

  • LAMO!

The horse's expression is freaking hilarious!

  • 2:20 to 2:24

    biggest sexual joke ever

  • I used to watch this at my grandma's all the time. What a great tribute to anti-violence.

  • I haven't seen this movie in ages, but I think it was one of my favourite as a child.

  • MAN last time i saw this was when i was 3 o.O

  • I'm sure this is a Paul Terry/Terrytoons production, because it has his 1940s style to it (and the same smartass attitude). But on the creative side, having a "flaming queen" dragon must've been a first. I bet this screwed entire theater audiences over (Especially since it was WARTIME!!). Dang!

  • It's a Disney production, a lot of stuff they were putting out at this time had this feel to it. This was directed primarily by Alfred L. Werker and Hamilton Luske.

  • Sorry, scratch Alfred L. Werker.

  • Thanks, because I thought it was a Terrytoons thang (both him and disney were contemporaries). Still, I don't think ANYBODY can do this type of cartoon today (on TV or in The Movies) because lots of groups would be on their ass in a hot minute. Plus, that kid is a pure bastard-a warmonger in the making. I tell ya', the 1940s were the 1940s--glad I MISSED them by 23 years!! (LOL!!) disney--home of family entertainment...NOT!! ^_^

  • I wouldn't say he's a warmonger. he's just a little boy who loves stories about dragons and knights, and would love to see a fight one day.

Then he persuades the Dragon and Sir Giles to stage a fight to please everyone.

  • Cute. Not a feature-length film, so I'm not even going to compare it to something like Bambi or Dumbo. But it was cute.

  • man, this is one of the best.

  • nice poem lmao

  • The kid: stickler for the rules or bloodthirsty munchkin?

  • Both I think, but I'm sure he doesn't really want the Dragon and Sir Giles to hurt each other as they are all friends now.

  • Boy, Disney has a thing for fat western dragons, i mean Nellie The Dragon from Quack Pack was the next newest one from them.

  • not to mention Elliot from Pete's Dragon...

  • 0:39 "Delicious"

  • LMAO!

  • 7:21 lawl

  • 7:48 egad....

  • Cute dragon :D

  • He is, isn't he?

  • Cute, cute, cute, CUUUUUTE!!

  • nice phallic joke at 2:23

  • *snigger* xD

  • *snort* that one didn't cross my mind =D

  • lovely poetry, huh?

  • Something tells me that the dragon was voiced by one of the Storks from Dumbo.

  • omg ur right!

  • This is How Half-Dragons got started. *smirk*

By the way who ever checked if the dragon was male or female? I mean really, No one ever asked or tried to find out :p

  • It's male why is that hard to figure out?Voiced by a man and is called he, him and fellow. He's male. A very gay male but nevertheless a male.

  • Well, at the end of the clip, they were singing "for he's a jolly good fellow."

  • What happened to the boy?

  • too cute!!

  • so remember kids, society will accept you if you fake a fight and pretend to die. :D

  • @sendono Just a minor quibble. Actually it was when he made a pledge to reform that they accepted him.

  • one lump or two

  • hahaha...my favortie part!!!..oh, and "Delicious" at :32-:41

  • 4:32 - 4:37 LOLLL

  • Classic!

  • poor horse

  • I love how Sir Giles switches which eye he puts his monocle on like three times throughout both parts. Maybe more.

  • I want a piece of cake that's as big as my head.

  • 4:02 full on ass groping! I think that man had more in mind than helping the lady up the ladder :/

  • I love the horse!!

  • my favorite part in this effeminate dragon tale from my childhood is 4:10

  • I like how the horse is like "I can't believe I have to put up with this crap"

  • Okay...so the voice actors...

Sir Giles = The Walrus from Alice in Wonderland

    The boy = Pinnochio

And just to add another random one...Cheshire Cat = Winnie the Pooh.

Disney reuses, but they were BRILLIANT!

  • Oh! And the dragon is the Mad Hatter!

  • No that's Ed Wynn!

  • Great calls!

  • its not they just sound similar

  • The dragon was NOT voiced by Ed Wynn who played Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins.

  • The Boy was played by Billy Lee; Pinocchio was played by Dickie Jones. They DO sound very, very similar though. I almost thought the same thing. x)
