i think it's completely dependent on the genre. judging by your username, you wouldn't like the sound of an upright, because they sound terrible in metal, but psychobilly, rockabilly, and folk punk (like my band) thrive on the sound of an upright, especially for the slap, because you can't tripleslap on an e-bass.

definition of a triple slap is pretty vague, you can mix up the timing a lot but you slap the strings down for 1 slap, pull the string up and get a note & slap (if you stop there, that's a double slap), then smack the fretboard one more time before starting over to make it the triple. if you watch the related video cover of rock this town, he goes triple slap crazy.

Don't know of any shops in San Francisco that do paint jobs on basses. We can do a custom job for you and ship it to you pretty cheaply. You can pick an Engelhardt bass for the paint job to be done on, or an Eastman. Either one is a dependable well made bass that will sound off great for you!

@blackxknight Unstring the bass and take it to any auto body shop they do custom paint work. In CA, it should be pretty easy to find a good one. Although wood, the paint techniques are not much different (additive to allow paint to not crack as the wood expands / shrinks, but they use that on plastic bumper covers anyway). You design it, they'll paint it.

three / quarter, maybe smaller. A 4/4 would come up to her chin without an end-pin, if it even had one. 4/4s are hard to find anymore, exept for concert situations & dealers.
