  • Just hearing about different people's ways of dealing with depression is quite uplifting in and of itself. It's useful to know that you're not alone, and that there is good will to be found all over the world (or internet). Thanks for the thoughtful video.

  • music has definitely saved my life many many times :)

  • One consequence of the theory of quantum mechanics is that events in the past that were not directly observed did not happen in a definite way. Instead they happened in all possible ways. This is related to the probabilistic nature of matter and energy revealed by quantum mechanics: Unless forced to choose a particular state by direct interference from an outside observation, things will hover in a state of uncertainty .

  • I have so much respect for you.

  • Thought of the day...

A fat dog getting raped by a giraffe. Think about that...

  • Thought for the day. I know what you mean because I have those days too. One thing that helps my spirit is sunshine. Today is very cloudy in Minnesota, And I'm not feeling so great. So I hope tomorrow will be better.

  • good man!

  • Exercise helps a lot. Bike riding, swimming and kayaking is what I do. I am lucky I can do all three where I live, but any kind done regularly will help.

    And listening to you, Peter!

  • dear peter,

i've sung the blues to you; i'm from santa cruz, california. could you join my channel loctia1--i would be so grateful. hunter reeve

  • Dear Peter, I'm sorry i posted two similar videos. I thought that the first video didn't upload, so I did another one(being new at the process).I certainly didn't want you to think i was an american "nutter." Respectfully and thankfully, Hunter Reeve at Loctia1

  • Music definitely helps. I play the blues when I'm already happy, but what gets me out of feeling down is funny music by the likes of Stan Freberg, Spike Jones, and Allen Sherman because I AM a nutter...

  • i play blues you wanna jam ??

  • What should one do if they have the blues? I suspect, do what you do, talk about it and share it with friends. Yeah music is one of life's best remedy!!!

  • Just meeting you and your work by chance. SO are you truly of 1927 vintage? WELL, both of my parents were born of that year, both in July, 1927: the year of The Jazz Singer.

I will PM you a poem of my voice reading a story... I remember YOU as you were, and are, always a youth and never, old, man. I am happy to say that I never get blues. I'm so lucky to be alive. Cheers,

my name is Reid Welch and can be googled.

    "Barney Google..with his goo-goo-google-y eyes!"

    (old song, happy, healthy)

  • Blues is great as it helps you purge when you can identify with the emotions conveyed in the music. Totally identify with that

  • yea music duz it all 4 me. not really a blues fan but yea i know what u mean.

  • love your videos! just saw the ad on tv here in new zealand, wow you're pretty much famous here now! when i have a day like that i like to get out for a walk and meander along and by the time im home im feeling a lot better. hope you are too. :)

  • Watching your videos on youtube are always a wonderfully inspiring pick-me-up! Thank you for taking the time!

  • I like to go to the graveyards or cemeteries and take pictures of the old stone markers.

  • well when i have one of those days i generally go and see my mates that always cheers me up.

  • Wow I have never seen so much spam on 1 video.

    Just leave Pete alone.

  • for real but good news is that the main one mrdonutholes4000 got suspended!he wasnt very nice

  • Thankyou for your contribution. I am sure your brain is directly connected to your fundament.

  • ...your just jealous because he live past 30 and your not going to.

  • i agree, music really is the best meds!

  • Why are the commenters such bastards?

  • You receive so many comments a day that im not even sure you have time to keep up with them. I added a video response called "just a positive message" the idea came to me a couple days ago, its actually the first short film ive done. Hopefully you life the message and it cheers your day up :) Im still appreciative for your support on Davos back in January.

  • I'm glad someone else sees music as a healing tool for your mood.

I'm not particularly familiar with the world of blues music, but I recognize the style - and I like it.

  • HOW MUCH SCRIBERZ.?WR3Q45

  • Just catching up been up north.. Feeling a lot better.. I usually go out for a drive when i get blue. Crank the radio and forget about everything.

  • Unfortunately I am a busy mum so I can't spend time listening to music when I'm blue. I find exercise is a brilliant way out, but if that's not possible watching really positive vloggers on the Tube helps.

Another way out of the blues is instead of focussing on the negative issues, focus on the positive ones instead.

I do get blue by seeing people in third world countries suffering indescribable humilities at the hands of violent perpetraitors, then I realise how REALLY lucky I am...

  • I've read that short bouts of depression are normal & are the brain's way of "cleaning house". Go with the (sad) flow for awhile & really feel the pain. But after 3 -4 few days if it doesn't pass, start moving, exercise, do something you love, talk to people you enjoy being with, buy a Yorkie puppy, kiss someone....

  • I'm worried about him, I hope he's alright!

  • Don't worry, jln1953, he is OK but very busy with another worthwile project, and is giving in the mean time Youtube the opportunity to pinpoint those endlessly spamming *ssholes to be able to improve their system to throw that kind of low level human junk forever out of YT.

  • To Mammothmouse1959. What would you know? worthwhile project? My ass. Even so, he would have logged in anyway, project or not.

  • don't take no shit grandad

  • Hi Peter, I have had more of those days myself recently. I'm a widow with 2 children at home, i'm 55, I force myself to watch something interesting on TV or listen to rock or country which can be depressing too,but I feel alittle better eventually. (You always look so nice) - joan

  • i love you :) <3

  • I ride my bicycle. I am not a spandex-wearing exercise fanatic, I just jump on my bicycle in whatever I am wearing and cruise along, going aimlessly and enjoying the long coast down a hill and the simple joy of the feeling of freedom..I see a child on their bike, the smile on their face, and know that, for just a moment, I am capturing the same simple joy...and my worries, while not disappearing..somehow seem more manageable...

  • that sucks, and i just found him.

may he rest in peace. bye geriatric1927

  • Who says he's dead? I think he's all right. At least i hope so.

  • Look he's not dead, stop listening to these silly donutholes, etc. Spoke to him this morning and he is busy doing some filming all this week. Relax.

  • Its a secret, wait and see

  • Take a note of Last signed in: 2 days ago.

  • HA!, Yes Sir Mr.Pete, I have always done the same. and if you find a better way, plz. let me know!.. God Bless.

  • i agree with you on the point about music. Music allways gets me a up. But i have to disagree with yuo about the kind of music. If i hear some melancholic songs then i get even more down. I have to hear fun/positive whatever songs to feel better. And, maybe you'll laugh bout that but, when i see some movies which are about youth and young man which are teenagers, i get sad too. For no reason at all. Cause im young not that young anymore, but much too young to feel bad about these movies.

  • I Love You Peter. If you were 30 years younger, or I was 30 years older, oh well!.

Music is ALWAYS the best remedy and I find that I am drawn to the deeper most moody music of Mike Oldfield to make me feel better when I am blue, or in any mood to be honest. You are the most intelligent crazy old nutter that I have ever come across.

  • I think listening to blues makes you feel better because it sort of recognizes the unknown sadness that you feel and in a way help's you get it out.

Personally, when I'm feeling sad, I like to listen to Buckethead's song Padmasana. here's the link to it

    youtube . com/watch?v=C-2w9b8i7GU

  • close your eyes, get some brill song on and just listen to it, its amazing how this works, i go acting school and thats 1 of the things we do, listen to some music and act out what u feel in the music, i reccomend it to EVERYONE

  • i listen to music too! but fast upbeat music not depressing type because unlike you it only makes me more sad! feel better

  • Well, I am now 40, in a week 41, and that will mark not only my birthday, but 5 years since I had the third back operation that put me totally out of commission..mostly hve to lie doen every 20 min for at least an hour..so whenever i feel sorry for myself, I think of all these kids coming back with no limbs from Afganistan and that damned war in Iraq. Many of them are 18, 19, what a long road they have. The I take a good book, and go lie on my chaise. It helps quite a bit.

  • Mozart....

    Larry - Hobe Sound, Fl

  • The blues has a way of rocking your soul and getting your heart beating. Fresh air, sugar and walking my dog take my blues away. Nice video, thanks for posting.

  • Music also helps me change my mood, but when I'm feeling down, talking to a good friend and just plain dumping, as you did on the video, works wonder. Get out the garbage, and you can feel good again...or at least not bad! :)

  • Are you associating yourself with donut then?

  • sometimes being like that can be fun

  • You probably look like a donut and your brain is empty like a donuthole.

He has been logged on all day responding to emails and comments, 13 hours is a long day and he is still on, so leave him alone.

  • where?????? that sounds like a sight to see! i saw a really fake one once durring halloween once but it wasnt very realistic so im quite interested in seein 1

  • Taking a long walk in the park always lifts my mood when I am down. Birds, wildlife, and flowers help remind me that there is another world out there beyond my current mood. Reminding myself that it is just a mood and will eventually pass helps, too.

  • Hi Peter,

You just need to put on some good music and think to yourself, tomorrow is a new day. And remember, at least your name isn't Gordon Brown...now there's a man with huge problems on his shoulders.

Keep smiling Peter and the whole world will smile back at you.

  • I find music helps me also. I can appreciate different kinds of music depending on what suits me at the time. Blues does indeed have an uplifting quality about it. Sometimes jazz lifts my spirits. And other times good ole rock and roll does it for me. I think music has a way of filtering right past any barriers we have unknowingly set up and seeps into our soul, which is why it affects us so much.

  • Black Dog Institute will help you lots then mate. You only a bit of a Nut Case? I'm the Fruit Loop King hahaha. You would of got along with Sir Winston Churchill really well :)

  • Music is a good outlet for me, as well. I am eclectic, so whatever seems to work for me at the time. I do love the blues, though.

  • Great vid! I think music makes you feel better as well. Except my music style is like hard rock, stuff like Guns N' Roses and Nickelback! Keep up the good work ;D

  • you make my day...

  • I love how you say "Goodbye" at the end of your videos. :)

  • I,like puddysma1 get away from it all reading. Generally re-reading "All Creatures Great and Small" is very therapeutic.

  • Isn't that the most wonderfully entertaining series of stories?

  • i try to put my focus away from myself and onto others. i listen to the bird songs. Go shopping! Kick back with a good book.

If i don't distract my mind i eat junky stuff that's not good for me.

  • legend

  • i smell an asshole and his name is tarheelsrule3333

  • Pete you are great. Keep spreading your word, because quite simply the world needs to hear it!

  • I love the blues too, I play the harp

  • It is definatly my favorite way of cheering myself up... Works even better when you play it yourself I find.

  • True, Peter. Music is the cure for practically everything. Except perhaps, gas. Eep. Hope you feel happy soon! :-)

  • I'm a little bit 'blue' and sad today...I think is...the moon? :S But, I try to enjoy this feeling , It's necesary to enjoy the sadness , with good music if it is possible ;)

Already, did I say to you today ,that I love you? I love you! crazy and cute Peter!

  • Music makes me feel a lot better too. Sometimes I even have a good cry. but that could be because i'm pregnant lol

but even when i wasn't, I even clean. Cleaning makes me feel better because i feel like i'm cleaning up the mess in my life; :]

  • I think the same way. There are blue days, and yet I am blessed in so many ways. My problems are tiny compared to others who have much bigger problems they are dealing with. To lift me out of the blues, sometimes I watch funny animal videos on youtube. Like squirrel obstacle course and of course one funny or amusing video leads to more. Laughter is also good medicine, so that's why I do it.

    Music is another great choice.

    Good video as usual!

  • right on about the music. hit the cd collection and drive. but i always end up lost in the music then really lost as to where i drove with what area i end up at. then theres the writing of music for me. or chating it up with friends. learning to play the guitar for sweet sounds of sadness. yeah getting drunk doesnt work for me. peace. gregg

  • what kind of camrea do you have and can you bring it places with you?>

  • I thought you watched his videos, he lives in a bungalow you prat.

  • I absolutley agree Peter. For me it's music, especialy my own music.. it fills me with energy and all bad thoughts just dissapear in a matter of seconds.

    All the best!

  • i get down sometime, and music helps me to.

  • i have a smoke when am down:)

  • Peter,

When I feel blue, I watch your videos. That works for me everytime.

  • You're very insightful. However, the mental health professionals often suggest the cure for the "blues" is to get up and "fake it". This is very difficult to do when feeling down but apparently it often works. Once one begins to "act" OK, this is often therapeutic and people begin feeling better. While it's not a cure for serious depression, this behavior modification approach often helps.

  • when i feel down i listen to my Newton Faulkner album called hand built by robots - i would recomend it for anyone!!!!

  • i listen to rainbow connections by the muppets when i feel down!

  • that is soooooo halarious!good thing u hate life cause it would be pretty hard to have kids but i do have one question how to you aim when your taking a piss?

  • I agree music is helpful to lift a blue mood.

  • Hey. If ya like the oldies and skating then come check out the latest video I posted of the legendary Gene Kelly from "It's Always Fair Whether." Cheers mate.

  • Hello, for me always words help to take me out from the gloom. The strange fact is that one of those days was today, everything felt completely hopeless. So, I turned on my computer and sat down for some writing, and that helped. Now I feel happy again. You've right about more dark music and things can help, e.g. I use to read some depressing texts. It can help you compare. Thankyou, video cheered me up...

  • Wise words. When I feel down I listen to "The Middle" by Jimmy eat world, or "the rain" by ana free. They just help to lift me up :)

  • I was blue but today the sun is out and so all is well with the world.

  • You're absolutely right about the blues. There are other sorts of 'down' music that work the same way for some. A classical guitarist I knew used to put on early Joni Mitchell (the saddest songs she could find) and it would cheer her up.

A paradox, but it works ==

  • Hello! Personally, when I have days when I'm feeling down I can do many things. Music is one of those things, certainly. I both listening, playing, and writing music to help me.

Also, I love to play soccer and cook. I find that both can release lots of energy. When it comes to soccer, I also get a rush of happiness after doing something skilled and such. I love it. (:

  • lol cooking and soccer is not a good combination, i guess you barely know what offside is.. and i have to ask you something waht the fuck can you cook, i guess noodles cus thats probably very hard for you... And another thing whats up with that fucked up smiley, whats the purpose of that??!!! u think that fucking smiley made my day!!!+ fuck¨u

god dammnit why those everybody act so friggin happy all the time, cant you just realise that we humans just are a bunch of emos, terrorists for example.

  • Hahaha, You know they say "everyone brings joy to the room. some by entering, and others by leaving". I think I know which kind of person you are.

Hope you have a good day and can get over whatever is bringing you down. :)

  • see we act happy beacause even though we are all slowley dieing and that there are bad people in this world we dont have 2 deal with stupid asses like u every day and that makes us happy :)

  • i no just what you mean about the socker part when i finally got my rai flick down it was awsome even though i would probley never use it in a game its still nice to no i can do it :)

  • oh and kira kira was a great book!

  • I just go looking for xooxxoxoxoxoxo

  • Music is also work for me but best is I can go to beach and listen to the sound of the water wave just listen to that and my mood be uplifted again :D

  • Hi Grandad. If I'm feeling blue I like to play music and look through my photo albums. It's nice to think back and remember the times spent with my family and holidays.

  • Music also works for me. But then again I could not imagine a day without listening to some kind of music.

PS: By the way, a bloke who is into motorcycles is alright by me.

  • Amen, brother.

  • Interesting vid Grandad. My stepmom is in an Alzheimer's facility and most times after I visit, I'm feeling pretty down in the dumps. When I got home I found my husband with his smiling face, big hug and the most important part, he talked to me about how I was feeling. That made all the difference!

  • i watch horror movies, because no matter how bad i may feel my life is, at least i'm not having my legs sawed off or being stalked by a guy in a hockey mask.

  • i have these days alllll the time ;{ blues are catharthic, i don' listen to blues but other dark music perphaps the feeling of having a comarade in arms, u are not alone, and out of the blues comessome of the most beautiful art ever created,

  • What you need is a rave geriatric.A good old new rave.Cage dancing, narcotic taking, strobe light and alcoholic filled day.

  • i like how he takes a sip of coffee or tea in the beginning

  • I was feeling blue yesterday and today because I completely alienated a couple of potential friends yesterday... and, speaking of intoxication, Peter, I guess that's why! I was out of it and sent some stupid, rambling emails to them. I felt a bit better last night, anyway, since I went out to meet folks and hear some music. Like you said, music can be uplifting... plus, when totally down and out, it's important to get out and enjoy one's self as much as possible, even just a walk outside.

  • lol hello youtubers

  • Take Good Care Peter

  • I'm fortunate to not have too many of those blue days. Taking a walk and then snuggling up with a cat helps a bit. Sometimes the cat knows I'm down, and she'll plop beside me and start purring -- cats are good therapy!

  • If he's around, getting a long hug from my hubby is the best pick-me-up. If he's not here, talk to him or my mom on the phone, or chat with my brother or my best friend over the internet.

But then again, sometimes I just go with the mood. Can't be _happy_ all the time!

  • The only thing definitely permanently rotten here, my dear microbrain, is your deconstructive, decomposed and compulsively smelly attitude towards life and other people.

Go, see a clever shrink or get forever lost in your hopelessly sloppy life.

  • RECIPE

The gunmetal look of the sky opens the scene

to this late fall afternoon. Soon after, snow

rushes down outside the kitchen window

as if fleeing from the incurable grayness

    of the clouds.

In here I watch the fire on the stove waving

its tiny tongues wildly—like some ghost

intent on telling it all in the confessional

    stall of the blaze.

  • —Or like a devilish coquette who sticks

out her tongue, flutters it, as a way of saying

hello. The flame keeps reaching its yellow-

blue tips upward toward the bottom of the pot,

    tickling the thing,

making the soup I'm now stirring with this

ladle to boil in no time, which I will then

serve into a small bowl, adding a sprinkle

of salt and pepper—a light kind of supper

    for this type of weather.

  • If I'm not feeling good I listen to my iPod

  • I have a little black or red licorice, If it's raining go to a public place and start dancing and sing "Singing in the Rain". You will not be able not to laugh with the way people will look at you. I also like to play with my kids and get hugs, all that turns me back around pretty quick. I also like to pet my dog or pick up my cats or rabbit and rubb my face in thier fur. Yep all fuzzy happy feelings! A cup of tea does the trick too (with a little rum toddy).

  • If im deppressed i just go to the local park and kick the traps, and trust me ya feel great...

  • If you can add a walk to the music then that's perfect to make me at least a little better. And if I meet a real friend during the walk or at the end of it then the blues just go away.

  • Music works for me, the sad music can help me more than the upbeat music

  • I cook, thats pretty fun. And also just indulge in those cool foods, fun foods like stuff you can dip, and just watch a film or something.

Best however is to just phone a friend and have a chat, I'm always happier for a chat, regardless of whether its about whats causing the blues.

    take care everyone,

  • I may be a nutter too but I think a good blues song is cheering.

  • when i feel down and blue, i listen to BILLIE HOLIDAY, and i feel mutch better

  • Getting some excercise (gym/swimming) always works for me, although I never feel like doing it when I'm down, so I have to force myself when I don't feel like it-if I can give myself that push it does work though.

Music can send me either way, bit unpredictable and even a little dangerous for my moods. Although I do sometimes find listening to Leonard Cohen uplifting-which is something many people don't understand as they find him depressing!

  • I find that interesting as Leonard Cohen also struggles with depression.

And yes, exercise helps me overcome minor depression although, like you, I must push myself to undertake it.

  • I usually read... it doesn't help much, maybe i'll try your way. Thanks al ot:)

  • Hi Peter, I am 65 and whe
