  • that is the worst defense i've ever seen lol. unc just ray the same play over and over, and got open jump shots

  • HE HAD A WEIRD LOOKING SHOT IN COLLEGE...VERY DIFFERENT FORM THAN HIS FORM IN THE NBA.

  • THANK GOD I WATCHED YOU MICHAEL YOU WERE A PIECE OF ART ...

  • "ANOTHER SHOT FOR 'MIKE' JORDAN." This was before "michael" LOL

  • that defense is soo weak Guys would get 21 points off 3's

  • @Gman1522 There was no 3-point shot in the NCAA that season (the line you see is the NBA line, since they game was played in the Nets home arena). Thus, there was no need to defend the perimeter tightly like teams do today. As a defense, you want the other team to take 20-footers.

  • that zone would get destroyed in todays basketball

  • LOL, had they knew who MJ was at the time, they would NEVER leave him ungarded!

  • There's no doubt of MJ's greatness but Kentucky's defense here is awful. A lot of those jumpshots he hit were easy looks without even a hand in his face.

  • @shanergm cuz they think since he's a rookie he isnt really important so they sag off a bit until he does.. well this

  • @shanergm cuz they think since he's a rookie he isnt really important so they sag off a bit until he does.. well this and plus they were doubling the center

  • As a TRUE FRESHMAN...it was becoming clear how great a player the then-Mike Jordan was.

  • Ten years before I was born.

  • Teams should pass like this now.

  • UNC was lucky that Bowie wasn't there.....might have changed things.

  • @Belburg with MJ there hardly anything to be worried about

  • @CAM8689 Possibly, but this wasn't the same all-world Jordan people would come to fear and revere.

  • @Belburg didn't have to be even at that currently level he was probably already better playing with other all americans he just didn't have to go all out.

  • @CAM8689 It's possible, but he still wasn't at the level Worthy was at.His best quality was the intensity, which Worthy mentioned about in an interview a while back.

  • @Belburg didn't have to be Michael even then was probably the 2nd best talent on the floor period behind Big Game James.

  • @CAM8689 Don't forget Sam Perkins was also very talented.I think, at that time, he was very underrated, even maybe better than mike.

  • ahahaah mike jordan shoot the freetrows from the side of the head ahahah funny...in this video you can look how many works he do after

  • haha, they used to call him "Mike Jordan", lol

  • lol 'Mike' Jordan

  • Gosh both teams played really lousy defense and unc would pass the ball instead of taking the open shot. Michael did great though. That game was sooo slow low paced that it reminded me of a retirement home basketball pick up game.

  • Pass, pass, mid range jumper.

    Pass, pass, mid range jumper.

College ball is given the impression of being HELLA boring back then.

I mean they don't even hustle to contest the shot.

  • Al mcguire was a smart guy. he was sweating MIKE jordan lol

  • lmao he's never ever been mike jordan. im appauled to hear that lol

  • "Mike Jordan" lol

  • omg, i thought Inspector Gadget was commenting the game for the first few seconds

  • dont wanna be a hater but all hes doing is hitting open jumpers

  • @WingZeroXXXG lol, but i guess he is the only one that's trying to get open.

  • I know right?? This is almost hularious. Mike Jordan. Little did they know. Oh by the way Big Game James also

  • Jordan's jumpshot is so different from college

  • @Zachmandar Apparently it was rare for Jordan to hit mid range jumpers in college. I guess this game is an exception. Still if true it would explain the different shooting motion he developed after turning pro.

  • He was an exceptional colored player.

  • Why don't they use overhead shots more in basketball? I like the angle and being able to see the whole play.

  • was defence invented back then?

  • y is there a three point line in this video< but not in the 82 championship game

  • that elbow jump shot was open all game. Jordan can shot fine there! and this was two days before the day i was born! so great game!

  • That Zone defense sucks Monkey Balls !

  • marv albert. mike jordan. lol

  • Look at Joe B. Hall playing that bitch ass zone defense.

  • Thanks for Posting anything that early in Jordan's Career! So cool to look back seeing the Potential he had then. Even cooler that he Fullfilled his Potential and now looking back makes it even sweeter. This Flashback shows he had all the tools then, and was Coached by the right People and had a Great Family supporting'. I Subbed.

  • Where´s the fucking DEFENSE ?!?!?!?!

  • Mike Jordan

    haha

  • announcer doubting on Jordan if only he knew...........

  • KEntucky's defense in this video is awful!!!!

  • BEST COLLEGE SQUAD EVER...!!!

  • Who is Mike Jordan? Funny to hear Marv Albert call him Mike instead of Michael.

  • "A lot of people say that Michael Jordan is the best freshman ball player in the country...I don't believe it." Hahaha. I wonder how that guy feels about that comment now?

  • @wonderbread1 I was thinking the same thing

  • @wonderbread1 That's Al McGuire, and that's not what he said. He said "I don't..." and you can't tell what he says after that. He could've gone on to talk about a completely different thing. By the way, Michael Jordan was probably not the best freshman ball player in the country. Patrick Ewing was.

  • @wonderbread1

Well he died in 2000, the announcer.

  • @wonderbread1

Well the announcer Al McGuire died 10 years ago.

  • @SFFOOL76: Ouch, I wonder how wonderbread feels about that comment now. lol

  • @SFFOOL76: Ouch, I wonder how wonderbread1 feels about his own comment now. lol

  • @wonderbread1 You realize you are operating on 30 years of awareness of him right? This guy probably only had at most a year.

  • @wonderbread1 Probably the same. He may have not been the best freshman ball player that season...

  • @wonderbread1 Since Al McGuire died about 10 years ago, pretty sure he's not too worried about a comment he made in December 1981.

  • @wonderbread1 well he probably wasn't at the time...he wasn't near as good in college as the nba, he was awesome in college though but he was just amazing in the nba

  • @wonderbread1 Why? Nothing he did after his freshman year affects how good he was during his freshman year.

  • @wonderbread1 That "guy" is HOF coach Al McGuire who passed away about 10 years ago.

  • @wonderbread1 This old guy saying this at the beginning is a fucking retard and knows nothing about college basketball and should be selling hotdogs in the stands there...

  • @wonderbread1 So Jordan was the best incoming high school senior this year? Who were up there with him?

  • @wonderbread1 well he only meant as a freshman, was he actually the best freshman at the time?

  • I promise we will try have a much fun as UK did the year just prior thanks.

  • u aren't crazy. just a MORON to compare Wall to the GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL FREAKIN TIME. sorry. I'm a big wall fan, but lay off the crack son.

  • thats the shittiest defence ive ever seen

  • UNC all day

  • Michael Jordan? Never heard of him.....

  • @EagleLC21 lol

  • im a kentucky wildcat fan too.. but yes you are crazy lol wall as good of career as jordan? lol a bit far fetched

  • lol listen to the play by play at :30 I bet he felt stupid years later

  • defense looks terrible

  • Mid-range game is sick!!!

  • No the phrase was to keep scoring 20 a game was Dean Smith, and in the 84 olympics the joke was that Bob Knight kept him from scoring 15 a game.

  • Three future NBA All Stars here..Worthy, Perkins & Jordan....great team work here ..move the Ky D with the pass. UNC National Champs that year! Great University & head Coach ! Go Heels TCUNC76

  • @TCUNC76 Perkins was never an all star in the NBA...he was a good solid role player though...

  • @TCUNC76 Perkins was never a NBA All Star.

  • Man Kentucky had the worst defence. Or i guess they thought Jordan would miss cause he was a freshman.

  • funny how its MIKE jordan

  • the tar heel coaching staff made michael jordan a lot better player.

  • amen to that. Phil Jackson too lol

  • on another video of jordan in 83/84 the 3 pt line is like 15 ft but here 3 yrs earlier its like nba 3 now

  • how come the three point line is so far back

  • Because that's where it "originally" was.

They moved it in to offset the growing amount & influx of players coming into the NBA, who's fundamentals weren't up to par..MAINLY "shooting".

Back then, that was a "Man's" 3-pt shot LOL!!

  • lol its lyk 30foot +-

  • You're knowledge & comprehension of the game & it's defensive schemes, is what's atrocious..

This is a "REAL" zone kid!!

That bullshit U see in the NBA, IS NOT a zone because the 3-sec rule PREVENTS it from being one!

With REAL ZONES, the Centers & Big Forwards can camp out in the paint ALL GAME LONG to protect the rim...

U ignorant ass kids today need to go learn the game & stop embarrassing yourselves on YouTube with these kinda' moronic posts..

  • .......and you are taking this waaaay too seriously guy! lol That defense was atrocious - based on the athleticism and speed of Jordan!! Did u stop to think that modern defenses changed almost entirely BECAUSE of Jordan? It's true. All coaches admit to it. Only few players in history changed the way the game was played: George Mikan, Wilt, and MJ. All I'm saying is that defenses are a lot faster and tougher now. And i'm 32 btw.

  • "defenses are a lot faster and tougher now."

Oh really? The key words are in brackets:

"Our rules are [designed] to [allow] players to [penetrate] for [high percentage] shots. This has [allowed] for more high quality [perimeter] shots as well, because of how much [easier] it is to penetrate today."

-- Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations

  • "The committee instituted a 3-second rule for defenders in order to [prevent] teams from [parking taller players] in the post. The goal was to [free the lanes] & [encourage] cuts & drives through the paint. With those changes, among other factors, offenses have [opened up] & scoring has [climbed]."

    -- NY Times, Feb 29 2009

So I guess the Top 10 scorers in the NBA had a 23% INCREASE in ppg avg's 1 yr AFTER the changes to the defensive rules because they're "tougher" now huh?

  • Haha. Great point.

  • hoho~~looks their defense, that's funny!

the defenders didn't move so much, they only followed the ball, just like dogs chansing a ball.

  • check out jawaun archie

  • Who is that skinny, dangling hands 6'3" 18 years old kid called Mike Jordan who had the weird looking jump shot.

20 years later, world will remember him as GOAT forever.

  • He was still Mike back then.

  • im surprise no one is going blast their b.s. comments n sayind "First" lol but a point made by one of the commentators @ 0:28 about MJ that they never new yet y he was great (best rookies) even then... hes a rookie he doesn't have respect yet.
