The song is about Zach De La Rocha's father who was a political artist who suffered from a lot of stress - hence the title. Not sure whether it is pro/anti jesus though
@0foofighter0 Could you perhaps tell me more about this or provide me with urls/information? I have recently found out something about my father and can't find anything about this.
It doesn't really say anything about Jesus, if anything pro-... it's like he's using Christ, symbolically, to represent his father, and how he was treated by his own dad. It's easy to get once you read into the situation... deep stuff, though. I admire that.
@unyeleman I think the mention of Jesus in this song is used to portray how people in power use religion as a way to control masses. It's in no way a negative portrayal of Jesus, it just shows that the message Jesus sends is abused by manipulators who tell people to do things in the name of God, hence "...And raped the spirit he was supposed to nurture In the name of my In the name of my..."
@unyeleman It mostly has to do with Zack's father which he went mentally insane once he converted to Christianity and started destroying his paintings and told Zack do help him.
It mostly has to do with him going mentally insane once he became religious.
Even though RATM aren't an "anti christian" band they think all religion is bullshit including Christianity.
Hence their song Vietnow.
But I don't really care anyway (even though i'm Christian).
@AKx4 I think they mean that his 'memories' raped the spirit he was supposed to nurture ...but this is about De La Rocha's father abusing him and using religion as an excuse so ...
@unyeleman His father went insane and became obsessed with religion, and I guess he blamed it; and this album has a generally anti religious undertone.
@unyeleman One of the things that Rage is very against is religion. so with that info and the fact that the song says "Jesus raped the spirit he was supposed to nurture* its safe to assume its against god. :)
@Guitar3034 Quote, “I don’t see [One Day as a Lion's first single Wild International] as an anti-religious song. I see it as the West has been using Christianity as a way to justify its actions when in reality, those figures, Christ and Muhammad, were rebels. These two religious figures have been co-opted to justify power, although they fought against the abuses of power and the expansion of empire.” — Zach de la Rocha, excerpted from this L.A. Times interview
"They try to escape across the street where Jesus stripped bare"
"And raped the spirit he was supposed to nurture"
It means the men who use their power for evil purposes try to use religion to justify what they are doing when in fact, the teachings of Jesus Christ would be against it. Example: Holy Wars
@unyeleman And just to further back up what i said “I don’t see [One Day as a Lion's first single Wild International] as an anti-religious song.
@unyeleman This isn't pro or anti jesus dude (not that it matters its a badass song anyways) its simply explaining through a semi-darker viewpoint of what jesus went through. its just explaining that jesus would need to let nature run its course on occassion, much like the Christian God.
@unyeleman I don't think it's against Jesus, I think it's against the people who claim to represent Jesus. They use his image to represent themselves, but rape children (Catholic priests...), rape the people's minds, rape the people's spirits... etc.

His father was always relgious, I believe, then he broke down. Overall, it's about abuse, not religion at all.
