I can tell right now that thing wont work right off the bat look at the 2 principle gears to get the bike to move he has a smaller gear and a bigger gear on the same shaft trying to move together which is impossable because the the large gear will be pulling harder than the smaller one causing the shaft to warp in the diection of the larger force. If you dont beleive me why doesnt he show us him riding it haha.

They have this thing called a derailleur. They're common on mountain and road bikes... AND you can change gears as you ride. Amazing.

I get the smooth transitions and all, but with 3 gears up front and 8 out back on my mountain bike, it's not that rough.

lol... Driving bike for much years, there is the rule- if normal system makes 1.5 rotations to 1, and the new one does 3/5 r / 1, it means you need to put about 2.5x more POWER to make it real. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

if you want something multiple speeds on a 20" bicycle wheel without dealing with a low hanging derailleur and tentioner your best bet would an internal hub gear. It's very simple to get a hold of a 3 speed hub at a japanese surplus bike shop, and have it strung on your original 20" rim.

its actually a good thing .. I have two different drive trains for my mtb, a few different cogs and sprockets.

I run single speed mainly, but sometimes 1x3 and 3x9 with my xtr derailers, but single speed really is the way to go, just need to find your sweet spot and you're set till you exceed it.
