You know, it is a bit stupid to put velociraptors in RAID 0. From experience, they do not have as much of a life span as regular drives - mostly because of the heat issue. RAID 0, since it is data striping, if one disk goes - you loose everything since only fragments of full files are on individual drives. I do use RAID 0, but only on my solid state drives. SSDs are cool because when they ware out you can still read them, just no writing to them.
@linuxrobotdude If you have data that is important and you don't back it up while using RAID 0 then you are a retard. There's no reason not to use Veloci's in RAID 0.

Yeah, I had to get a micro fiber cloth for my LCD because people wouldn't stop touching it. I literally had around 15 finger prints on my screen and every time I looked at it when it was off or had a black background I could see all of them.
It drove me crazy but now that I have my micro fiber cloth every is A-OK.
Now I have made an entire Backup of PC and deleted Raid. I formatted the Drives NTFS and Raid-0 but now with Stripesize 128KB, and it is better. But already some problems.

You can download beta version of Windows 7 even today. I personally haven't tried it out yet, but according to people it's quite unstable. Talking about the final version of Win7, I've heard it'll be June of 2009, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was released earlier. ;)
Or just wait until Windows 7 gets released. Roughly talking, it will have all Vista's features (+ DX11 support for upcoming video cards) and will be a little bit more "power hungry" that current XP.

hey mate, awesome review! i'm planning to get a similar setup with 2 VelociRaptor's with raid 0 on Vista Ultimate 64bit. I just want to know what stripe i should set it as (128/64/32) and whether to disable the NCQ. Also, how is that OS going for you? I have heard so many problems with it due to compatability issues. Do you seem to run into problems frequently with it or is Vista Ultimate 64bit recommendable?
i just got one, its better than my older 2 raptor drives at raid config with a higher degree of stability, but at a price of 300$ its not exactly scarce.

run out of SATA ports? get some RAID controllers. Run out of wattage? Get a second power supply.
You'll likely run into some technical difficulties but with a big wallet, anything is possible :)

I got 2 of these. 2x300GB GLFS.
Stripesize 32KB, RAID-0, but after 3 months, my Vista Ult. 64-Bit got problems with them.
HD Tach= 199,4MB max. read Benchmark.
I think I have problems with the drives. Vista often fails. Gigabyte x48-T-DQ6, QX9770 CPU, 1600 DDR3 Corsair 4x1GB

One of them failed often to boot. And in Vista Ult. 64-bit the system freezes often, almost always.
Software work bad, does not start, and so on. The OS often does not turn off, when you shutdown, the drives are still working.

Unless the gtx 280 supports tri-sli theres really no advantage.

ya but for that price u can get two gx2 which perform better...u can geta gx2 on the egg for 480 bucks only...versus 650 for 280s and even those are on sale noe....it is a joke of a card.

lol you honestly think it's a joke? at the time the 8800 ultra was released, those costed what? 800 dollars? you're getting way better performance for 200 dollars less. also, the gtx 280 isn't made for the bargain buyer, if you're one of em, buy a gtx 260. also, quad sli is failure.

280gtx vers 9800 gx2...gx2 wins..look at any benchmarks and for bargain buyer I bought my gx2 on launch and I did a step up to 280 gtx already. I'm just saying that for same performance you can get one for 430 and the other for 650, but for sli 280 gtx dominates

hey mate, awesome review! i'm planning to get a similar setup with 2 VelociRaptor's with raid 0 on Vista Ultimate 64bit. I just want to know what stripe i should set it as (128/64/32) and whether to disable the NCQ. Also, how is that OS going for you? I have heard so many problems with it due to compatability issues. Do you seem to run into problems frequently with it or is Vista Ultimate 64bit recommendable?

for me 32k stripe gave me the 200 MB/s performance but will use a bit more CPU.

i just got one, its better than my older 2 raptor drives at raid config with a higher degree of stability, but at a price of 300$ its not exactly scarce.

Just wondering, which soundcard do you use, because I assume the fact that you use USB speakers means you have onboard sound and not a dedicated sound card (as it wouldn't really be necessary would it?)

most sound cards now support usb speakers.
its always better to have a sound card, higher quality and it takes a load off your cpu
