After serving in the 2/75 th I believe I'm qualified to say a average Marine is not even worth talking about, now RECON is a different animal..but still not close. We trained with Marines , Seals and SF back in the day and the Marines were all kids who wished they were tough. The training is not even close.

D-Day would be an example, though the Marines were focused in the pacific, the army filled in as the role of amphibious forces. Ranger took point du hoc while scaling a cliff face, the rest of the army took the other beaches. While this was the army, this would have been the marines job if they were in the theater. now beforehand the army airborne was already getting to work behind the lines.

Do a little more research.. If you're not in the Army, you may or not be granted the transfer to the Army. Anyone from any branch of the military can go through the Ranger Indoctrination Program, but that doesn't guarantee a spot in a Ranger battalion. For example, a Marine who makes it through R.I.P. will become, "Ranger Certified," not a Ranger

And oh... by the way... it's not RIP anymore.. it's RASP I. and for NCO's and Officers... RASP II. RASP II has remained the same length but RASP I is now twice the length RIP was. Anyone from any branch of the military can attend RANGER SCHOOL however, depending on available slots. Passing Ranger School just means your ranger qualified not part of 75th RGR RGT

It all depends what field you're in. Generally speaking, you don't need Secret Clearance to join the U.S. military.

HOWEVER!! You need secret clearance for the Rangers and You must be a United States citizen(no substitute) AND!! AND!! You must be a Male. So that's like 3 major Req's.

You can be a citizen from another nation and join the Navy , Marines, etc. You can even be an illegal and join the U.S. military. It's happened before, many times.

To Be a Ranger you need to have Top Secret Clearance as Required. you don't need that to join the marines or Navy or Labor Ready.

MN SPICTURES is wrong. Marine is a Marine and a Ranger is a Army Soldier thats the diference. In the Army you have The average Soldier, the Infantry Soldier, Ranger, Special Forces and Delta forces Delta Force is above everything. they choose you, you cant choose them. A Marine is not like a Army Infantry their Just like a regular Army Soldier. You can be a cook, nurse or a office clerk and be a Marine so their no equivelent to a army infantry man someone who job is to kill not make eggs.

@ForceRcnMarine I'd say over 90% of Delta served in the 75th RGR RGT. Rangers are more physically fit than a green beret any day. SF are typically older and less concerned with fitness. The Rangers are obsessed with fitness. I was a ranger and trained with SEAL's, Marine Force Recon and Green Beret's at the John F Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Ft Bragg. RIP Lee Deal (Marine Force Recon) who sat next to me during the Spec Ops Medic course. He was KIA May 16 or 17, 2006 in Al Anbar.
