I performed with Eddie in concert. He's a great natural talent and a heart to match! Great to see and hear him on YouTube for more people to learn about him. He's been at the Met and all over the world.
Saw Villa this afternoon in Pagliacci at the Sacramento Opera--he was excellent--a fine dramatic tenor and a very good actor. A better actor than Johann Botha in San Francisco Opera's Otello a couple of years ago. It was the best performance of Sacramento Opera that I've seen, and I've been a suscriber for a number of years. Bravo Villa!
I especially Love the "sound" of Mark Rucker , and of course his tecnique , his breathing and the "meaning" of his acting ...... thanks for posting this Video ! Anyway, i believe these two Voices are too "big" for this Kind of unprofessional Camera ; you have to listen both on Stage or recorded by professional Team of Tecniques - here we cannot understand how "powerful" are these 2 Voices --- Am iwrong ? I don't think so ...

of course it's not explicitly written, but then why would iago be making all those racist comments? and furthermore, why would othello be inclined to believe him? what is he, uncle ruckus? hahaha
yes there is. go read a book. that's the whole source of tension, the manner in which iago, a white man, looks down on othello's (a moore) relationship with desdemona, a white women, and eventually convinces othello of how it is improper
They do a fine job, but.... well I'm sorry but its just horrible to listen to this with the music cut off at the end. The final few seconds of music is so dramatic, and we don't get to hear it here. Verdi is about more than just the voices.
I don't suppose Eddie Villa will go down as one of the great tenors in history but he's an awesome human being with an absolutely incredible sense of humor. I have been in several Michigan Opera productions (lowly chorister) where Eddie was the leading tenor and he's very popular here. I have run into him on the street a couple times while he was in Detroit and he was more than willing to stop and shoot the breeze with you for a while. Great guy and glad to see his success. Sounds very good here
Eduardo Villa is a member at Goleta Presbyterian Church. We are so fortunate to know him! Imagine his voice in a sanctuary that seats 300. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear him sing the Lord's Prayer! Bravissimo!
Mark Rucker and Eduardo Villa sound great in this clip. Eduardo is a fine tenor who studied with Seth Riggs and has carved out quite a career for himself.

In Shakespeare's text, Iago/Jago is definitely not black. Iago makes some negative comments regarding Othello's race.

Great singing!
Interesting note - I wonder how many Otello performances there are where the Otello must be made up black, and the Jago must be made up white!
