Too bad we live in a world where people have to write books about other people's misfortune & make other people out to be villians instead of just enjoying the music that was recorded for everyone to enjoy. Despite what you read friends The Carpenter family was close. Remember when the paparazzi followed princess Diana, & see what what sadly happened that night, well Randy Schmidt is doing the same thing to Karen Carpenter, except Karen's no longer with us,so fans get to endure all this crap.
RANDY SCHMIDT, (AUTHOR OF LITTLE GIRL BLUE) THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU & ME IS THAT I RESPECT THE CARPENTER FAMILY, YOU DON'T YOU JUST WANT TO LINE YOUR POCKETS WITH AS MONEY AS YOU CAN. WITH ALL THE TIME THAT YOU PUT INTO A BOOK (THAT BY THE WAY IS MISSING ALOT) HOW DOES IT FEEL TO KNOW THAT THE PEOPLE WHO WERE A PART THE CARPENTERS THE MOST WOULDN'T GIVE YOU JACK SQUAT! YOU ARE NOT A VERY RESPECTED MAN. YOU BLOCK PEOPLE WHO SPEAK THE TRUTH. PS THE NAMES ARE AKA WAY AHEAD OF YOU- WE KNEW!
Karen had the most angelic female voice I have heard next to Enya. She has a beautiful smooth voice and gentle demeanour. Sadly missed. I am fed up of the women singers today, all so aggressive and nasty and in-your-face,,,
Absolutely beautiful, as was karen. Everyone longed to be close to Karen.. I can't tell you how much I miss her, to this day..!!! Rest in Peace Karen.
1:37 "So listen very carefully get closer now and you will see what I mean . . . . it isn't a dream. The only sound that you will hear is when I whisper in your ear I love you . . . forever and ever. . . . "
Someone sprinkled moondust and golden starlite in her voice. . . . no one will ever compare to Karen.
Karen, had very nice paces. Her voice, very expressive, she left, but it has leave, something, as a message, it has it, a memory, and are talent, me to prefer karen, that Richard, but they have talent.
Wow, was there ever a voice more perfect? Pure and so full of emotion. When I hear Karen sing I feel her joy and her sorrow, I live those feelings with her. Few singers have the power to do that and that makes Karen so very special. Sing with angels Karen and when (hopefully and God willing) I have the priviledge of hearing and seeing you sing once again, you'll make me feel so special. God bless Karen, always.
@berncroft1 The Beatles and the Carpenters have their own, very different niches in world of music. Both Blessed with talents to envoke my own dearest memories of childhood. Listening to them can even bring the scents, warmth and safety I felt growing up in what I feel was the absolute best time to grow up. I thank God for the sacrifices they made to bring me their talents.
@moomaw05 == Well said, she was an American treasure. I am not an American but love her voice and demeanor. She was original and there are very few who can duplicate her, even today. Just beautiful.
poor lady. So thin and so tired :'( I love this song. Thanks KC we miss u.

I dont think the world will ever see or hear the like of this young lady ever again. An almost perfect voice coupled with her brothers wonderful songwriting.... awesome.
karen carpenter, you are simply unforgettable!!! we love and miss you terribly!!! wish we live in the same time. Your songs will live with us,.. i believe u didn't left us,.. you just go somewhere to know how much we will miss you if you'd be gone! but know what?.. once i open my pc and listen or watch for your videos, you still makes me cry,.. i always ask God of all the people,.. why does it have to be you.. RIP.. We love you!
It's late at night, but somehow I couldn't go to bed. I feel Karen up in heaven you are happy with us, when we click on your songs. You are alive. 32 years before I was in love with your voice, now I'm in love with your voice and I think I will love your voice forever. I just want you to know it. Thanks for your life Karen.
it´s not only her voice, is her unique sense of beat, the way she manages the terminations of english (Lou Reed has an style of that). Maybe she loved to hear Astrud Gilberto (the sadness femenine elegance), Lennon, etc clearly she has an anti Dylan aproacch. A complex artist. i hope someday we will understand what´s was her message.
Thee Most under respected and appreciated band that ever was,If they were a bunch of drug taking hotel wreckers that hand much less talent they would have gotten more attention from the media
When I was a little girl, my mother used to sing "Close to You" all the time to me. The words are beautiful. Karen's voice is astounding, and this brings nothing but happy memories. It's such a shame Karen died in such a tragic way. She was so talented, and still loved dearly.
How horrible a remark. Of course her arms were skinny. She had what is called an Eating Disorder, and it eventually took her life. For a person to suggest she should have eaten more Big Macs?? Truly, shame on you. Try to get educated, and along the way grow a heart
JanVanHoop: You might use language like that on some rapper crowd... but you're among people here who lived in a time when people were nice to one another. Things used to be much, much nicer for everyone prior to the current gangbanger, gun toting, sex everything crowd that exists today.
Real story is that she had anorexia, a eating desorder, started when before concerts she used to get all nervous and couldn't eat anything, after got even worst. She started a to get better a year before her death, even got a feel pounds but her body was just to damaged, and her organs start to fail, it's one of the efects of anorexia. is sad, she was very good, whit the music, and seemed a great woman.
Karen Carpenter's parents look like people you'd see at a bake sale in Ohio. Simple folk who ignore the existence of space aliens. I understand when Karen wrote the song about E.T.'s--her dad threatened to burn her H.G. Wells book collection.
Dead right 'sublimeguy' this isn't a forum for discussing eating disorders! It is to celebrate one of the greatest female vocalists of my lifetime (which has spanned 67 years so far). As a bloke I'm supposed to be un-sentimental, but whenever I hear Karen Carpenter I get a lump in my throat thinking what a sad loss she was to the world when she had so much more to give.

Love U Karen and God Bless Richard,Thank God for Karen & Richard for giving us all these beautiful songs with their beautiful voices and giving us all these beautiful memories.
richard carpenter just signed up a filipino lady from the philippines and she sounds exactly like karen...but with an accent... heard that he was shocked when he heard her sing cuz she sounded just like karen...pls type: asap08 Feb17 Claire dela Fuente & Richard Carpenters Part4.5
karen is one of the most talanted women ever no one can beat her style and voice, richard takes some credit for the success but most of it was all doing of karen, she is absolutley gorgeous, sad and its so sad this beatiful woman is no longer with us
Crikey, shove some burgers down her, now that is mildly amusing. I can see it now.....no I'm sorry Karen your not going on stage until you've had a couple of burgers. And you can eat those fries..... Incidently I have all the albums and both signatures....gotta be worth something!!!!!
Every time I here her it kind of saddens me to think of the music nowadays! It makes me realize that the music industry has gone backwards...not forward! And of course a voice like Karens is one in a trillion!
very sad illness . where the body starts eating itself through lack of food . Some beautiful healthy people (mainly girls)have fallen to this dreadful illness
If you listen closely you'll find that Karen puts "'n'" (as in "and") immediately before "Just like me..." She does the same thing two places in "Only Yesterday". Billy Joel puts a couple of them in "She's Always a Woman". By the way, this is not criticism; it's just for interest; I love all of these songs and the way they're sung....
for crying out loud can people stop talking about her eating disorder thats not what the music is about. remember her beautiful voice i love this women. xx
Like it or not, her eating disorder is part of her legacy. I love listening to her, but every time I hear one of her songs I can't help thinking about how tragically her life ended.
This must have been around the turning point just before she began to succumb to the Slimmers' Disease, when, all too briefly, her beauty reached its pinnacle.
I didn't notice, back when everyone was young, but it's not hard to see she had a real problem. Pitiful. I can't understand how anyone that skinny can think they're fat. The human mind is strange.
Karen Carpenter died of heart failure due to anoexia nervosa, an eating disorder! If Karen had been alive today, she would have been bigger than the Beattles along with Richard! DO Not forget about Richard Carpenter!
Karen died of anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder and Richard is still alive. God Bless both of them! You will never hear such a beautiful voice as Karen Carpenter!
Karen Carpenter, What a super star and super voice! The world lost a wonderful singer when we lost Karen. She really made us all feel so great. I only wish she knew how wonderful she really was. I still morn her passing.
If god was a women, this would be her voice.

Thank GOD for YouTube. I sure do miss her. I was lucky (and old enough) to see her at Disneyland when she first started out. I still cry.

Crikey, shove some burgers down her, now that is mildly amusing. I can see it now.....no I'm sorry Karen your not going on stage until you've had a couple of burgers. And you can eat those fries..... Incidently I have all the albums and both signatures....gotta be worth something!!!!!

What a huge talent. Silky voice. What a shame that she died so young but her singing will live on. Thank you for posting :D

Every time I here her it kind of saddens me to think of the music nowadays! It makes me realize that the music industry has gone backwards...not forward! And of course a voice like Karens is one in a trillion!

She is painfully thin and frail here. It's sad. Richard should have shoved some burgers down her.

anorexia nervosa is a mental illness, not a lifestyle choice! it's not 'fixed' by 'shoving some burgers down' - if only it was that simple :(

very sad illness . where the body starts eating itself through lack of food . Some beautiful healthy people (mainly girls)have fallen to this dreadful illness

OMG, thanks for posting this song! She is so beautiful and the music so simple. I long for simpler days.

>> She is so beautiful and the music so simple.
The music is anything but "simple".
A lot of production went into it.
Don't confuse "mindlessness" of todays "music" with simple.
