Actually there was this trick he taught us for "desperation mode" to dive very low and long, and lay your hand stright on the floor surface for the ball to fall on it(forearm, I think), and you don't have to move your hand the ball will just bounce off your hand high enough if you do it right.
But in the end he still told us to not try that and hit the ball with both hands
