I am preparing for an economic collapse and another depression. That is the only disaster I can really prepare for and can foresee happening in the near future.

Regardless of whether it happens or not, every person should have survival skills and supplies for when natural disasters happen. Every time you see something bad happen (earthquake, tsunami, flood, tornadoes etc...), and then you see the chaos that follows, I think those people should have had a plan that made recovery a little easier.

If you have an 'emergency plan', but everything is destroyed in an earthquake, flood, wildfire, etc...you're no better off than anyone else. Only if you have somehow managed to 'stash' your supplies somewhere that's guaranteed to not be affected by any of these things will you be better off than anyone else. @Thyalwaysseek The solar maxima is explained on NASA's website and they don't predict it to happen by 2012, in fact they believe it is somewhere between 2013 and 2014. Please listen to reason and logic because the media is over-hyping you with these ideas of a doomsday scenario that won't happen. What might happen is war in your country, rebellions, or whatever. Man-made events, not an asteroid, or a polar shift, or earthquakes everywhere. Things happen but now we hear it more because of the net
