If they are in dirt, they poke their heads through like yours is doing. After a few times it makes a nice little dirt tube. They will hang out looking through their dirt tube for weeks before they go really deep, and after they come out from deep ground. Its really cute.

The song has nothing to do with Turtles. I like the song and from the comments it seems that others like it also.

"Boring" you say...well, it is obvious that you do not understand the box turtle. Egress from hibernation is a HUGE moment in a box turtle's life--it is also a HUGE moment for box turtle lovers since it means that the turtle has survived another winter. Please, before you make rude comments try to see another--not so narrow--view. Not everything is Hollywood.

It was a single that came with his book that came out a few years back called Salty Piece of Land. It was only with the hardcover I believe. The book is a good read also.
