  • I can almost see the angels...

  • The Boss DC-2 in action! Fantastic!

  • seco

  • can you bend the strings while using this?

  • I've never seen any guitar player play anything remotely similar or as creative as this.

  • @ disciple177. What do you mean push up bottom string as much as possible? You mean bending or something different?

  • I have that video "Phil Keaggy Guitar Method". This comes at the end. The sampler unit is from Roland. His signature lick which he invented is the picking "yank" which is done with the volume knob and is easy to learn. You use your little finger. Mounting the knob a little closer to reach can be done by an electric guitar luthier who knows Phil Keaggy's methods. Many Christian Rock guitarists use Phil's techniques. Get that video.

  • Yamaha SA220???

    :)

  • @sgtBicho I understood in this vid he said Yamaha SA2000. Not made nowadays. Now it's called Yamaha SA2200 I think.

  • when i was a teenager back in the late 60' and early 70's i seen plenty of guitarists around cleveland area try to imitate phil's techniques on the guitar esp when phil would take the bottom string and push it up as far as possible,,,,the result of other guitarists trying to do this ended up with a broken guitar string!!! one small thing too, there is no justice at all listening to phil on a pc monitor with pc speakers,,,you have to see phil perform in person, then you will KNOW...

  • Where's Amazing Grace?!??!? Hahahaha nvm

  • WoW Amazing! the way he plays it looks like that guitar is not a instrument but part of his body if you get what i mean!

  • i was like i must be tone deaf case i cant hear amazing oh there it is, very awesome

  • simply incredible.

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Shit. That first delay song is amazing.

  • I've always loved Phil Keaggy's music. I remember seeing him at Wheaton College in 1980 with my brother. Thanks for posting this!

  • whata trip!!!!!!!!

  • That delay is the most amazing sounding delay I've heard. What is he using?

  • He sounds like what he looks like.

  • All this while missing a finger.

  • @brightlights456X it doesnt make a whole lotta difference on that hand...cant do 5 note chords that arent strummed or partiall strummed and maybe would have some issue with that tremolo style playing like on recuerdos do allahambra but that's all I can think of :D

  • @geoffreyefloyd

Ahhhh, I see. I have a question. Why don't more guitarist use E-Bow's today?

  • @brightlights456X It sounds ok for somethings but its not THAT versatile so u get tired of plying with it after a while. It's just not that great a sound either so...

  • This is what they must have have been thinking when they came up with the word awesome.

  • A master of not only the guitar but the ebow and jam man as well.

  • Awesome! Too bad those things cost like a hundred bucks, though.

  • This has got to be the most amazing guitar work I've ever heard. Listen to how beautiful those chords are... So amazing. This composition is so diverse and is really creepy at the one part and really peacefully beautiful in others. Definitely gifted by God. Thanks for this video.

  • is he missing a finger? :O

  • @picko002 yeah he's missing a finger. The way I hear it is he cut it off to give the rest of us a chance. If I want to catch him him he is going to have to cut off he's entire right hand but then he 'd just problably start using his feet. Another 10 digits ;;;; could you imagine. There turly is no one that can touch him... period

  • @itsmarshmallowz i did now! hahaha

  • @itsmarshmallowz i did now! hahaha

  • I never cease to be amazed by Phil's ability to make music with a guitar.

  • It souns like Steve Howe (YES).

    Phil is a great musician

  • Neat stuff.

The rest of you...please compose in WORD, utilize the spell check and then copy&paste. Hay Seuss K. Rice.

  • Blown away by this absolutely stunned

  • moar like amazing phil

  • moar like amazing phil

  • can i get this as a recording

  • what effects are you using while playing with the ebow besides a loop?

  • never heard this man play before but i have to say, magnificent

  • that wasnt just amazing grace? Im pretty sure i heard a pretty awesome noregian tune in there:D in the hall of the mountain king<33 or I dovregubbens hall as its originally called:DDDD

  • sir i want to be a 1/16 as good as you are! Absolutly amazing!!!!

  • amazing...thx 4 the sound

  • sounds very bagpipe-ey when he did the amazing grace tune. AUSOME

  • The way he manipulates the volume knob, the bow, and the delay at the same time is ingenious. Not my style of music, but an amazing display of talent.

  • Go Phil Go!!!!!!!

  • 5:47

    Dat riff

  • this dude is awesome! wow awesome!

  • Incredible demo. Thanks for sharing!

  • What effects is he using? Is it just a looper and a delay?

  • @LessThanProfessional yes or a tape delay or something like that

  • @malevolentmistake - Keaggy is the master of loop layering. Watch him in concert and he seems to just be fiddling around with random runs as he's talking to the audience, only to find out that is the background to the next song.

  • @LessThanProfessional yeah its a tape delay cuz at that one spot he clicked a button and it just kept looping the same sample over and over again, that is if my memory is serving me properly at the moment haha

  • I didn't know Mr. Bean plays the guitar

  • @tedhellcaster He doesn't look anything like Mr. Bean.

  • @BlackArtNo1 yeah. Wait, he looks like a cross of Vladimir Putin and Cameron Diaz I think

  • Well.. If ever there was a perfect ad for selling the ebow to a would be buyer..this is it !!

    If that don't inspire you..nothing will !!

What a talent and what a beautiful piece of music.

    Super job Phil

  • The difference between a musician and a guitarist is that all the beautiful things he just played would be turned into songs instead of just seemingly rehearsed canoodling

  • this jam is amazing,

  • Wow, I look down to see what people had to say about the video and the E-Bow, and all I see is a pissing contest. Incredible!

  • @GruesomeDrifter It's YouTube. The best thing you can do is switch on safety mode and never see the comments again.

  • @theawakener7 Never denied being a masterbater, and I never agreed you where funnier. You have the heavy yoke of that pathetic divisive comment to work past, and then there is the lack of a thread to connect my standing as a wanker to this as well, nope. Not funnier. Either way, have a good day, at least you have a smart tongue and a sense of humor.

  • feels like I just travelled the world with this amazing person... except for Antarctica...

  • @theawakener7 I will have you know that i am 41, I lost my sense of humor all on my own.

  • @theawakener7 That is about the dumbest stuff I have read on YT in a while, and this place is stupid. Seriously Phil is an amazing guitar player but there are tons of amazing guitar players from all religious backgrounds. Stupid us vs them thinking. I am pretty sure Phil would be offended by what you said.

  • wow, thats pretty wild.

  • wow...sounds great.

  • Wow... Lost my self there for a second.

  • Does anyone know if the e-bow will work on nylon string guitars? Or do they have to be metal for the energy field to vibrate correctly

  • @Aurelius27x ebows use a magnetic field to drive the string, so...

  • I heard him once live in Concert. He was incredible. He can do almost anything on his guitar. He is like an Orchestra by himself. Once at a concert he sang part of "I'll get by with a little help from my Friends", The Beatles song. He sounded just like Paul McCartney, maybe better. Thanks Phil. Your the best.

    Benson

  • Holy shit this guy is a prog god!

  • I decided not to waste my my money on a E-bow...instead I use my mother's dildo.

If you strum with the mushroom tip, it sounds really cool.

Except I don't like the film it leaves on the strings...that's not cool...

  • @MrPeteyRocket

    haha

  • @MrPeteyRocket YUCK HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • @MrPeteyRocket Where do you think elixer strings came from.

  • wow it sounds like a bag pipe when he starts playing amazing grace.

  • have my pc hooked up to my Sony Cinema Theatre system connected by Monster Cables...

    ...im not going to lie

    im flying...

  • The 'stubbie' looks suspiciously like a flaccid wee-wee:)

  • hey did you guys know that Chuck Norris is so tough, he lost his virginity before his dad????

  • Seems to me much cooler than anything Page ever did with his bow.

  • CRAZEE! I WANT TO GET ONE OF THOSE!

  • watch Take You on a Cruise by Interpol.. nice EBow there is...

  • Magical

  • that makes a really crazy sound very cool.

  • he lost his finger as a child in Youngstown OH on a manual water pump.

  • AMAZING ! :) credit where credits due.

  • that was the best intro to amazing grace i've ever heard haha, what a topic change. a really cool pink floyd kind of moment right before you start it and cool stuff again after, great use of the bow, probably more musical than any of the other adverts i've seen for it

  • is to delay?

  • @nilo260578 No, it vibrates the strings using a magnetic field, to varying intensities, depending on how close you get it to the string. So, it can do infinite sustain, as well as some very unique attack sounds when he actually strikes the string with it. Watch how he moves it not only closer/farther from the strings, but also closer/farther from the pickup. His expressiveness with this device is nothing short of amazing.

  • Fuuuuck, mines coming in like 4 days but i want it now!!!!!!!

  • His band Glass Harp in the 70s recorded at Electric Lady Land Studios

Hendrix said he was the best he'd seen!!!!

  • He had it caught in a machine in a factory where his father worked I think.

  • I want that too ;o ..

  • amazing phil!!!

  • 1.08 sounds like zelda noises.

  • Does he actually touch the wires with the e-bow or he just hovers over them?

  • @Khazar01 just hover

  • 5:48 reminds me of that "london guitarist" video... stephen jerzak... one of these guys copied eachother... haha

  • @NinevoltG

Phil Keaggy was creating these sounds all the way back in the early 80s before Jerzak was even born. You can see and hear a vintage example of Phil doing it live way back in 1981 on the tune "Royal Commandment" off his album "Ph'lip Side" which came out circa 1980 Just do a You Tube search for Phil Keaggy "Royal Commandment"...

    Just do a

  • @NinevoltG

Do a You Tube search for Phil's 1980 vintage song "Royal Commandment" and you'll have your answer given Jerzak is 17 lol

  • Fantastic.

A different way to play guitar, and a beautiful execution first of all!

  • You know, I've watched this video dozens of times and I just noticed his awesome wristwatch.

  • Why is he picking the guitar with a zippo?

  • @hypr0040 It is an Ebow.

  • Now, that is Amazing

  • I dont usually comment on videos, but that was the shit...

  • With that fucking crazy e-bow it dosn't sounds like a guitar anymore xDD

  • Comment removed

  • i would never leave my house if i had one of those

  • Phil Keaggy - Master of the Pan Flute.

  • Wow, he's getting a lot of different sounds.

  • Incredible imagination.

  • years ago a rock reported asked eric clapton how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world, "how should i know, ask jimmy hendrix", so he asked jimmy hendrix, 'how does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world?" "how should i know replied, jimmy, ask phil keaggy"

  • Can someone please tell me exactly what he's doing at 5:12 ?

Is he using the ebow or is it slap harmonics with effects? I would love to replicate that sound if possible.

  • @bristoffski its not the ebow... from the sound/look he's slapping the harmonics and is doing swells with a volume pedal... that would be my guess

  • @NHBluesMan thanks heaps man!

  • @bristoffski He's probably using a volume pedale to get those swells, i suppose, or maybe he's got a magic invisible finger.

  • @Danielebass look at the video, no pedal, watch his pinky as he does the swells with the volume KNOB

  • @EighteesBaby you're right, but what about 5.13?

  • yeah, somebody told me he cut off his middle finger to avoid the veitnam war draft

  • @connorsnowboarder he lost his finger when he was 4 years old in a water pump accident.

  • Sounds more like pan pipes than bag pipes.

  • @asher2865

He is using a two second analog tape delay most likely. and maybe a schoche' of distortion. and a looper or loop station of some sorts

  • Not to downplay him in any way... But I wonder how much better he could be if he had been born with his missing finger? As a guitar player myself I realize that a musician is constantly improving, but still...

  • @TheJDubrighthere Have you listened to any more of his music? Phil is absolutely PHENOMENAL! Check out The Wind and the Wheat, or County Down. There are WAY too many songs to list here! I think you may just come to the conclusion that he is just right the way he is now! =0)

  • wICH EFFECTS DO U USE?

  • That was truely the most amazing thing Ive ever heard.. I have to get me one of those.. Oh Yeah and some talent too.

  • This is incredible. I bought an ebow recently and thought I was kind of good with it until I watched this

  • reminds me of video game music. Not so much the tome as the notes being used.

It has video game style vamping and whatnot.

  • i keep rewinding it back to 3:32

  • that part after amazing grace is soooo sweet!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!! Now this is talent!!!!!

  • 2:08

    whats that song? :P

  • @lucas1997bom "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg

  • I cant fucking wait until my E-Bow arrives in the mail

  • at about 1:42 it sounds just like the ending theme of the x-files...maybe Mark Snow is a Phil Keaggy fan...haha

  • 5:48 <3

  • I used to think the solo in Under the Milkyway by The Church was bagpipes D: turns out it's an ebow too lol

  • Beautiful sound!

  • He is so amazing. I've been a fan since the mid 70's and cannot get enough of his truly unique and amazing guitar work. I've been going through all his videos posted on Utube and WOW!

  • Yes, he had an accident when he was young. In spite of the missing finger, he's still one of the most amazing guitarists in the world.

And yes, the Amazing Grace part sounds just like scottish bagpipes!

  • i really enjoyed this, this guy is brilliant

  • Possibily the most inventive use of the eBow I've ever heard....

  • That aint Amazing grace

  • @jpruett5 Might want to watch the video for more than 30 seconds.

  • Man that was so cool. Beautiful Playing. What great tone you have on that beautiful axe

  • All while balancing a pick on his knee...that's awesome. I haven't really seen anybody get a violin effect out of the ebow, but he managed to do it very well in some spots (then he purposely changed the sound)

  • Phil is legendary, and what a blessing to know he has been a true Christian for many years.

  • Comment removed

  • i'm gonna buy one

  • Thank You Phil !

    God Bless You.

  • HEYYYY Volume pedal doesnt count!!!! :)

  • Beautiful Phil, as TE would sayy. Followed you for years Phil., I'm a know , you. Not bad for a Maori . Pete.

  • What! This rocks! "Is that your pinkie on the knob?" asks the newbie. Warm sound! Thank you for sharing it.

  • Simply fantastic ! Thanks Phil fot this nicest moment of music . Cheers

  • suddenly I felt molested by his voice

  • Is he missing his middle finger?

  • @dewere641 Yes. If you research it, he lost his finger as a child in Ohio due to a 'Water Pump' accident. His older brother had been killed in a car accident before this happened & his sister had a Toe cut off a few weeks after he lost his finger. He is quoted as saying 'these were very heavy things for his Mother and Father to go through' My God, no kidding

  • @dewere641 yeah it got chopped off by accident when he was 4

  • @dewere641 ew, yeah it looks like that...I wonder how it feels to have to have tht there

  • @dewere641 yes

  • @dewere641 yes a water pump cut his finger off when he was young

  • @dewere641 Yup, he lost it when he was a kid.

  • @sloanstudios what did he do? flip off chuck norris?

  • @Dacoustics I thought I was seeing things (Then I realized there was nothing there lol)

  • @dewere641 Yeah, he lost when he was a little kid. I understand he got it stuck in a ringer of an old fashion washing machine.

  • @Janko1492 Phil grew up on a farm in Hubbard, Ohio. While climbing on a water pump on their farm, the platform he was on broke and some faucets fell onto his finger and cut it off.

  • @dewere641 yeah, whats with the missing fingered guitar players? Jerry Garcia lost his middle finger as a kid, and Django mutilated his hand. Yet, people still seem to just play amazingly!

  • @dewere641 Well, its not weird that he loves the Ebow. he got no fingers to play with.

  • @dewere641 Yes, missing half of his right hand's middle finger ...

  • @dewere641 yep!!!!

  • @dewere641 Yes he is. I don't know the story behind that.

  • @dewere641 he cant give a fuck sign :o

  • I hear about all these supposed guitar masters but rarely if ever do they include Phil Keaggy in their comments. C'mon- are you kidding? This guy (anybody's bias against religious belief systems) is CLEARLY a hall of famer! BIG SHOUT OUT TO PHIL KEAGGY - one of the world's most incredible guitar players ever! Oh, by the way - you try to play like this missing the middle finger of your right hand!
