  • this is a great video if you DON'T want to hear the amp and you DO want to hear guys talk about the amp.

  • boy, those guitars look puuurdy sittin in the background . . .

  • Hello. Do you have trussart guitars deluxe steelcaster in stock? Best Regards.

  • this is lame, makes Phil seem lame, makes the evil robot lame, paul jackson junior was cool at one time but c'mon did you see that album cover and hear what was on it.

  • Thousands of records? AND he played on the Thriller album?! That's awesome.

Unfortunately, he works for that douche Leno, so his endorsement is immediately discredited.

    Kidding.

But seriously, Leno is the worst.

  • lol description is from wikipedia lol i love that

  • Aside from some of the freakish tubes that were used, and maybe not using nesting birds to wire the thing, how does the EVIL ROBOT differ from its root amp, the mighty Magnatone?

My Magnatone, made for an accordian teacher in Santa Anna, uses an ELL80 tube...that costs about as much as I paid for the amp. Great amp though!

  • OMG, Phil X sitting on a stool! I've never seen such a thing before!

  • Man that's the guy you've never heard about but everyone has heard him play! This is a strange world....

  • does anyone knows where you can buy/order evil robot amps, in europe?

  • @TulioSounds you can order one through Fretted Americana. You can email me at debra at frettedamericana com for details....thanks!!

  • @bubbleheadft so you don't want to hear them play?

  • Why am I just seeing this?

  • Is there anything Phil can't do?

  • wow Phil seems to be tired there o _ O

  • stop talking just play yer guitar!

  • @GuildX350 It's an interview. They're supposed to talk.

  • stop talking just play yer guitar!

  • Huh. So it really has become "The Phil X Show".

  • Phil does interviews now?

  • Could you guys do the 59 Les Paul again?

  • someone needs to make a guitar tv channel

  • Was it Paul who played with Adam Lambert on Tracks of my tears? That was awesome.

  • Why does PJJ's evil robot clean tone sound so much better than when phil used it for the clean tone during that session when he wore the ride to the hills shirt?

Prolly cause the ac30 is the greatest clean tone of all time, and that's what were used to.

  • Is it available in the uk if so how much and where

  • What was that PRS with the crazy inlay? Was it one of those Dragon ones?! You can only see the headstock and a little inly in this video.

  • I thought they were about to talk about how you can become a professional musician, but they only do their best to sell this amp. Which is a kick ass of course. But... come on. Two great musicians. Come on ! Tell us a bit how you did it !!

  • PJJr seems like a chill guy....his resume is 0_o...wow. Ella at 19?? This was pretty cool...

  • Do y'all have any explorers

  • Phil needs to moonlight as a TV host or something.

  • is there a way anybody could plug in to test out the evil robot? i wouldnt toss a thousand bucks without tryin it first.

  • @zziggymaan If you live in (or can get to) Los Angeles, call or email Fretted Americana and set up an appointment to demo the amp. They are very cool people and were happy to let me crank it up for 20 minutes and see what tones I could get out of it. You won't be disappointed, it sounds better live than it does in the FA videos.

  • what is the diffrence in sound in a regular flying v and a 7 string flying v

  • @monsterenergy7019 one has 6 strings... the other has 7

  • Wow. Phil looks like Jim Morrison.

  • Excellent stuff, Paul is a real nice dude with some amazing history.

  • So that's what happened to Carle Winslow after Family Matters!!

  • @jcornell85 Lol, that´s what I thought the first time I watched the video! xD

  • @jcornell85 LOL I was thinking the same exact thing when I watched this...

  • Awesome interview but also, thank you for enlightening me to this amazing new artist that I now know...PJ Jr. is wicked! \m/ :P

  • Several things come to mind. First, I wish I could slap the people who keep nagging about demo on the clean channel. Second, I have probably heard this guy all the time and I never knew his name. That's cool. Third, and this is totally superficial and shallow and all those kinds of things and it means nothing at all, but why the name "Evil Robot?" It's like trying to vote a guy for the President of the US named Howey Doohickel. He may be brilliant, but come on...President Doohickel?

  • WHY WOULD ANYONE DISLIKE THIS???!?!?!?!??

  • PLEASE DEMO THIS THING WITH CLEAN TONES ! I HIGHLY RESPECT PHIL'S PLAYING, BUT I WOULD ONLY BUY AN AMP THAT DOES CLEAN AT LEAST AS WELL AS CRUNCH. CHEERS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL !

  • phil looks strange without a vintage guitar hangin off his shoulder :)

  • Does Phil use his old tonemaster any more?

  • @acledfloyd The Evil Robot is a replica of his Tonemaster that John Kasha made for him, becasue Phil blew out the speaker in his Tonemaster, and I guess he just couldn't find a replacement or something.

  • @StainIessChina I know that the Evil Robot is a replica, I was just asking if he still used his Tonmaster still. And I believe he has had it fixed since then.

  • @acledfloyd I don't know, in a series of videos he was using a Fender amp and he said the Tonemaster was being fixed, and then he got it back, but then when they first made the Evil Robot it was called the Tonemonster, but had to change the name due to a legal dispute. Don't quote me on this but I seem to remember Phil saying something along the lines of that John Kasha made the amp for him because his Tonemaster was broken beyond repair.

  • @StainIessChina

They had so much buzz developing around that old Tonemaster that it became obvious that blueprinting it would sell...

  • @StainIessChina I don't believe the Evil Robot was made replace his old one, but they were made so that more people could have access to such a great amp. The real great thing that Phil said that John Kasha did was to replicate the sound of the old almost blown speaker that the Tone Master had. Once an amp has been used for thousands of hours it has it's own sound and their is a video of Phil saying he played a non uses Tone Master Clone and it didn't sound the same as his.

  • @acledfloyd No, that is the reason the Evil Robot was made, I'm pretty sure that's what Phil said, and that's why they originally wanted to call it the Tonemonster, plus the specs are exactly the same as the Tonemaster except for the vibrato.

  • @StainIessChina The old one had a vibrato too. And I am fairly sure Kasha did fix his old one.

  • @acledfloyd I don't know it's been a while since I've seen the video, but I'm pretty sure Phil said that the initial reason for the Evil Robot was that his Tonemaster was broken beyond repair.

  • @StainIessChina Not broken, but the original speaker is/was about to let go. Either way, the Evil Robot is a great-sounding amplifier...hard to believe how 25 years ago, it was all about the full-on stacks. Now? It's amps that'll fit in the passenger seat of a damn Smart car, LOL.

  • @bowslap Not really, it's always just been about the wattage more so than anything, most people have been using small 15-30 tube amps since like the 40s, and eh I don't really care for the Evil Robot, Personally I'd like it better if Phil just cranked his AC30 for the overdrive sound, because I think it's the best sounding amp out there, but that's just me.

  • @acledfloyd In the studio, yes.

  • WHAT A GREAT INTERVIEW! I have an Evil Robot!

  • in polish: DIABELSKI ROBOT :D

  • I would love to have the Evil Robot head but I don't have the money .....

  • Phil X is containing too much to be "quiet"

  • Beat it Bass line . Legend ! Hope we see these guys jam in part 2 .

  • phil is so relaxed

  • when explaining an amplifier what is girth?

  • @gyselboy Im guessing how fat and wide the amp sounds? Is that what your looking for?

  • @gyselboy Fatness

  • @gyselboy overdrive

  • @gyselboy bass response without mud. Thick, but defined.

  • Happy New Year to Phil X & Fretted Americana

  • i new it lol

  • Phil has such a laid back interview demeanor...I wonder how an interview would go between Phil X, the GUITAR MASTER and Phil Jackson, the ZEN MASTER! :) ( a different type of X/Jackson interface)

seems like the start of something pretty amazing! Congrats Dustin!

  • I want an evil robot, but with a price tag of just over £1000 before shipping I doubt i'll get a chance to own one any time soon

  • i wish i could afford it =/ Maybe I can pick one up when I visit the states sometime (i live in australia so i bet postage is ridiculous).

  • So cool. I'm about to blow a gasket waiting for my Evil Robot to be built. Xmas vacation is over, get to work John Kasha! :P

  • Responds to how i finger....

  • either phil is huge or the other guy is real small.

  • That has to be the best intro ever!

  • phil needs to not change at all ever

  • Phil needs to update his wardrobe... fun vid though, look forward to the rest.

  • @RedroomStudios noooo. he has a lota shirts. just he wears them all inside out,....

  • @giggs102 I know that, but he looks like a slob wearing jeans and sneakers beside Mr Jackson. Phil also looks a bit pale. He should get out of the studio and work on his tan... if I lived in LA I'd be nice and brown all the time.

  • sound like evangelics talking about god on public access television :)

  • very cool. hope these guys pull out the gits in the later parts and jam a bit.

  • can i please be friends with phil?

  • Phil is really tall

  • i use the evil monkey....

  • I enjoyed this a lot.

  • Y U NO PLAY SOMETHING!

  • Great interview; )

  • Funny watching Phils Hairs growing since he started doing videos for FA

  • GET the Evil Robot. It really does kick ass; John Kasha is a tone wizard. I have the 18-watt combo and 30-watt head, and these amps are the kind of amp you buy--and then forget about all those other amps because these literally do it all for a gigging or recording player. And they are lightweight and easy to carry. If you get a chance to try one, you'll be convinced. I don't work for Fretted Americana; I'm a happy rock and roller. Thanks David Brass, John Kasha, and Phil X.

  • Maybe it's just Paul J. Jr thats very small?

  • Phil X really IS a giant in the music industry!

  • It's a $1.8K amp. I'd love to have it, but I can barely afford an AC15

  • @cjdavda true.. but im sure the evil robot is something else..

  • Paul has an epic laugh.

  • this is awesome

  • How tall is Phil?

  • @dunokuba i think. around 6 feet ish?

  • @dunokuba phil is 5.11

  • @dunokuba 6ft

  • @dunokuba Around 6'1

  • @dunokuba 4 feets?

  • @dunokuba How short is Paul?

  • These are fantastic. Great Job!

  • damn

  • haw number 7 views. happy new year Phil!!!

  • the first responder....rock on phil X
