When Black women & their natural hair were respected....@1:48 Now I like you lady, So fine with your pretty hair, If you don't mind the compliment, Just diggin you in the clothes you wear..
Was real young when this was out, but listened to it on the radio, knew it was something for grownups, but loved it then and even moreso now :). Heard the late Pop Staples and The Staple Singers had reservations about doing this song, being religious, but I'm glad they decided to "do it". Great song - very romantic a catchy way.
I remember when they played this song back in the day, my father would say YES YES YES. He would say it three times. As a young boy I did not know what that meant but now that I am older I think I know. It means "Lets Do it again"! Mama would just smile, she knew all alone what it meant.
I was on a mid summer day in 1975 when this song came on the radio, singing "Let's do it again"... and we "did it again, again and again". What a sweet afternoon that was.
Never will forget that day and how this song shaped it.
Thanks for posting and taking me back to such a perfect day in time.
This is all Curtis Mayfield from the Let's Do It Again soundtrack. He wrote a great soundtracks for this movie. This soundtrack, Claudine, and The Mac are one of the best movie sound tracks ever produced. Pure Southern inspired stuff. What a group, what a song writer!
BlkCherriKisses83 It was a top hit in the summer of 74 It's one of my favorites.....so like mellow yet funky makes me what to groove with it I was 16 that summer was full of great R&B and Nixon capped off with his resignation "Tricky Dick stop your ways" from Fish Ain't Bitten also that summer check it out. It's mellow too, like this one.
@stevesilk53 You are incorrect about the date of this tune's recording and release. Let's Do It Again (written by Curtis Mayfield) was the main theme to the 1975 movie, Let's Do It Again. It was the final #1 song on Billboard Magazine's HOT 100 charts for the calendar year of 1975.
Sierria64...I hope your wrong.just 2 years ago,I saw Mavis and Yvonne in a Concert...I.d like to know.....I think Cleo is stil living also....Im wishing and praying your wrong.....The Staple Singers, forever great and unforgettable...I love them
"Let's do it in the mornin', Sweet breeze in the summer time, Feeling your sweet face, All laid up next to mine, Sweet love in the midnight, Good sleep come mornin' light, No worries about nothin, Just gettin' good, just gettin' good
I don't know when this song came out, but I'm only 30 years old and I jam it louder & harder than any other song that comes on the radio. Mavis put some real feelings into it! Do it again!
@BlkCherriKisses83 It was recorded and released in 1975 for the movie of the same name. It was written by Curtis Mayfield. It was the final #1 song according to Billboard Magazine's HOT 100 charts for the calendar year of 1975. (I also remember this song as a 12 year old -- I turned 12 in November 1975. My 48th birthday is tomorrow, November 8th.)
The beginning phrase of this song was obviously used as a loop for a funny German rap-song, called "MÄNNER", rapped by a 9-year-old girl. Just search for the words "zigarettenrauchen" and "rosa". Really very strange!
Cleo came to my 8th grade graduation, in 1977. One of my classmates, Monique, grandmother was their clothes designer. Our principle said is Ms Cleo Staple in the building? She stood up and received a very round of applause.
I saw them at the Bud Biliken parade at the same time. GREAT GROUP
I KNOW I WANNA DO IT AGAIN......FOR REAL THUMBS UP
