One thing I still don't understand is why the compass in the lower-left corner of the screen points East when you're going West, and the other way around. It's something that always bugged me o.O

Well, the compass is always pointing to the north, really. So, if you're going west, imagine turning a compass pointing north 90 degrees counterclockwise. It would be pointing to your right. Trying to use that compass to navigate in the game is kind of pointless though, seeing as how using the map and your view of the islands works better :P

It just marks out where a treasure chart you have collected leads to. There are other treasures that you can collect that don't link to treasure charts, but these tend to be nothing more than a couple rupees.
