@unstrungzero I was just joking... I don't really consider "shut up" to be rude anymore after all those creative new swears I've seen on the internet these past few years...
@gubban2 Sorry, is hard to tell when a stranger is joking just from their words. I think that's why I overuse smileys and stuff. LOL It's true, what's rude to one person is fine for another. Swearing doesn't bother me at all, unless it's swearing AT someone. I guess it's about attitude.
I don't think that it's a thing about weight, I think it's more that elves can basically communicate with nature, so if they ask the snow to hold them, it will.
There is a meme that elves are light-footed, run fucking fast, and stuff like that. Tolkien created that kind of elf. I'd cite old D&D edition numbers at you about the speed (and I think stealth?) of elves, but I'm not that much of a nerd. <3
then if you've read the book, you'll not find it hard to read why it says legolas can walk on snow. go back, read the passage, then make another comment if you feel so inclined.
It reads that frodo noticed the shoes that legolas always wore. and while they made little imprint in the snow, it never says its the shoes specifically that cause him to be so light. know why? cause elves are lighter, they are the lightest thing in middle earth.
and if it weren't for his shoes, if he was wearing boots like everyone else, he wouldn't be able to. point where exactly i said the shoes MADE him light. i said it was because of the shoes that he could walk on the snow. what is wrong with that statement? and where does is say elves are the lightest thing going ?
no, that's wrong. he could have worn anything and still be nimble and fluid. he's an elf. and it's common sense. the hobbits eat and eat. why would they be lighter? they don't exactly pride themselves in being thin.
"he could have worn anything and still been nimble and fluid." ok, you're just talking out of your ass now. why the hell would he wear little shoes on a ridiculously long hike if he would be just as "nimble" in steel toe-capped walking boots? go on, make something else up.
he didn't cause obviously he just wanted to wear his own cloths. why fix whats not broken? and yes. he could have worn steel toed boots and still be able to run across the snow.
On a chemistry fieldtrip we went to this stunt place and they showed us thing like making HUGE FUCKING BADASS EXPLOSIONS and another was snow simulation, it was very realistic and pretty cool.
me as well! i liked how they didn't draw attention to it; it felt like it was something you could just pick out if you read the book. all in all a great sequence.

@SuperChuchutrain it's 'cause in the LOTR universe, Elves are mostly unaffected by many things in middle earth like disease, weather, etc

he can walk on the snow cause of his light little elf made shoes, everyone else has boots except the hobbits who have thick heavy feet

actually yeah, it does have "to do with shoes lol," read the book instead of guessing.
naryanr 2 years ago
he can walk on the snow because he's an elf, and elves are light. it has nothing to do with shoes.
hellopeople1013 2 years ago
no. it's because of his shoes. hobbits are lighter than elves. read the book.
naryanr 2 years ago
I have read the book. Hobbits may be small, but they're not light weights.

sure. he also could have worn a bungalow on each foot and still been able to fly. "he's an elf"

lol. of course he could have. some silly little house couldn't keep him stationed still.

Well spoken!
Whenever I read this scene with Legolas walking on snow, I imagined it like nothing else seen before.
And when I saw the first movie in cinema, I had a very big grin while seeing it showed so damn well.

Hey, what brand of white foam house insulation was that being used (sprayed) for the hard snow.
Looked real nice when dried, just like snow. Like a open-cell, spray-in-place soft foam.
Never seen one spray like that one did? any idea?
