John McArthur would be the first one to tell u, obedience to the law is not a REQUIREMENT for a relationship with God, rather obedience to God and His law is a RESULT of a relationship with the God of scipture. In this view is the truth pronounced over and over again throughout the Bible that God is in control, our efforts are futile and like filthy rags in the eyes of God. He gets all the glory and all the credit due to Him for mans salvation.
The author of this video and those of you commenting are flat out wrong and heretical. John Macarthur does not teach what you are claiming. That is false. I am a member of Grace church and can honestly say that he is being taken out of context and with 100% certainty this is false and inaccurate! Those of you who are calling MacArthur a heroic and Pharisee, let's go to the Scriptures to see who is the heretic and who is believing in a false gospel. I guarantee you it won't be John.
That is precisely what it is, a naked gospel. One not in need for clothes to cover up the truth, & therefore corrupt its true beauty. Which is freedom in Christ.
The gospel, is the gospel, no one can strip it's power. For those who seek, they will find, when they seek with all their heart. Have we forgotten the power of God?
JM does his service, but he is not perfect in his theology, nor interpretation of application. He does not live in the power of God, but the power of man. A true deception
@rokwing sounds pretty twisted to me. Looking at my own works can never assure me, never has, and never will. Only falling on the blood of Jesus seems to work.
I always thought the was a pharisee, sneaky man describes himself as a leaky dispensationalist. In other words He has covenant issues, and forsakes Israel for the sake of the Jews.
John MAcArthur is a very deceptive teacher. He may be correct on most of his teaching., but Lordhsip salvation is non-Biblical and therefore lie. The other are where JM teaches heresy is his position on the blood of Christ. Andrew is 100% right, JM teaches us to find assurance in ourselves, therefore no one can have assurance. Our assurance should be on God's promises and based on His character. We are saved because of what He has done. Jesus said, "It is finished."
AndrewcBain seems to be preacher of grace of God as a license to sin. Beware of this man who preaches naked gospel. MacArthur on the other hand is a true servant of God saturated in the word of God who pursues in the clarity of the gospel of Christ and handles it with great care.
They say the bible verses... as if they know it intimately... but they know nothing of the intimacy God provides... because in all honesty... they know about him... but they don't know him.
And that still small voice they hear ringing in their heads... is likely an ego trip... whether good or bad. Trying to defend itself.
That's not the freedom of Christ.
Cause it's like... they don't ever listen.
I say this strickly of Pharisees and Macarthurites.
What I mean by that... is that the aim is jesus. In the light that we are to allow Him to cover us... instead of going back to the days of adam and eve making fig leaves.
and blaming God... and Satan... and other people.
Man. So much freedom is to be found.
It's like they're afraid of who they are.
Where is the embracement of Christ then?
Where is the grace then?
"There is no Fear in Love."
So allow Truth to withhold itself. It's true. It doesn't change. Defending it doesn't get you anywhere.
Pharisees are often associated with "spiritual abuse" as well. So look that up. :)
Great book "The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse." Totally find that in his church. People are truly lost there. It's like an entire ministry just to attend and try to have a real conversation with someone.
God bless those who do that.
Because... i give them one thing. "They are trying." Just missing that the aim... is Jesus and not them.
So sad.
Pray for them.
That they learn what the words they use actually mean.
as well as this: Since when is truth in love about totally disregarding someone's spirit, heart, soul, and body. I mean, is that the kind of love you want to be associated with?
It's not jesus' example.
BTW... righteous anger... and judgment... is for God. It's good to know whats up... but to be arrogant.. makes you a complete fool, and to point out flaws in people all the time... i mean... where's the grace in that? Do you even trust in God?
I also want to add. That while going there. I found it incredibly ironic how the church is called "Grace" when it's the one thing... that they are furthest from truly understanding. It's so sad that is the truth about the church.
They say... "They will know we are christians by our love."
Well, fyi... love is when you actually care about another person. Not when your ego is driving your every thought toward them.
I feel sad for them, because they are truly blind. They(Macarthur & Macarthurites).
@chrissyferraro "I found it incredibly ironic how the church is called "Grace" when it's the one thing... that they are furthest from truly understanding." Sooo true.. I use to attend MacArthur's college, The Masters College, and found the exact same thing. The school promotes legalism and doing good works as a means to prove salvation. No Holy Spirit, No devotional times, No ability to use any of the gifts mentioned in 1 Cor,. 12-14. MacArthur think He is the only one who can know scripture.
@MrDiscernment2011 Unfortunately it is true. They love to talk about "putting on, and putting off." yet, they know nothing of "if you speak, do so in gentleness and truth." and "love in sincere." They unfortunately are trapped in a system of works, and pride. A very foolish combination. Putting emphasis on the self, rather than on God. It is sad, how he is a wolf in sheeps clothing. People, can't see it. They can't see it in themselves either, because they believed the lie, rather than the truth
I went to his church, have known many close friends of his, and those in his ministry... & can say from reading his books, & listening to his sermons... & saw the sad effect of his ministry on his church's massive pharisee outlook on christianity. Its truly sad
God i'm glad i didn't marry my ex fiance macarthurite!
Close one.
I was surely "delivered" from a severe sad perspective and lifestyle. I wasn't willing to be a macarthurite. I follow Jesus.

Son I think you have got a hold of some bad stuff here and need to check up on what you are smoking. i think it is clouding up your mine. You need to fix you a pot of Coffee and don't smoke or take anything for a day or two and let that stuff wear off !
For your info here, John preaches only that you are saved by Grace and not of man ! Read Romans 10:9-13 and Ephesians 2:8-9 and you will get exactly what John preaches !
if I can help you, just tell me and i will help you as much as possible !
I could defend MacArthur many ways by exposing misrepresentations and errors in this video but keeping in minimal. 1) Paul the Apostle wrote to those he taught in 2 Cor 13:5 "Examine yourselves whether you be in the faith." MacArthur teaches perseverance of the saints in 3 consecutive sermons at gtyorg Type into search field 90-270 for part 1. A good idea for all self-professed Christians to listen to these sermons: 80-326, 80-327, 42-121, 42-122, 90-299, 90-300, 90-301, 41-41, 47-39, all free
it is not proposperus..that you can short circuit the work of the holy spirit- Scripture is clear, "what good is it if you have light and hide it under the bed? " People are led by the spirit, but they do not always follow. I believe you are misunderstanding him.
Assurance of Salvation is different from having Salvation. WE are to work out our Salvation- It is when you walk in the spirit YOU KNOW-for the flesh is push down and you experience LIFE. I agree with Mc Author....
I agree with MAc Author.................you can be saved- but not sure-When you walk in where you are called then you know you are saved.
It is like a man getting paid before he does the work- the more he works his pay becomes real to him. I understood what he is saying- you seem to add to his words.
Funny but the Reformers all said, "Look to the cross or look to your baptism," when someone is struggling with assurance. MacArthur says look to WORKS for your assurance. To look to works for assurance is to build your house on sinking sand!
This is a total misrepresentation of the whole message that John MacArthur gave that day. He talked about assurance of our salvation, not being saved. One can be saved and not enjoy complete assurance, and John MacArthur explains that in detail, and ultimately cites that Christ's work is all there is. Again, this is a sad misrepresentation of what MacArthur says on assurance!
If you watch John MacArthur, and listen to how he responds to people who are struggling, he absolutely thrives on passing a condemning verdict on people's standing before God, something that is NEVER, any human's job.
If John MacArthur's message of 'grace', is truly what Jesus is all about, the world is in desperate of less of Him. Praise God that He sent his son to love us, not to speak a perverted gospel of condemnation and judgement. Conviction & judgement are the job of God alone.
read the New Testament book of 1 John Do you Fellowship with God and Christ Are you Sensitive to Sin in your Life Do you Obey the Scriptures Do you Reject this Evil World Do you Love Christ / eagerly await His Return Do you see a Decreasing Pattern of Sin in your Life Do you Love other Christians Do you Receive Answers to your Prayers Do you Experience the Ministry of the Holy Spirit Can you Discern between Spiritual Truth and Error Have you Suffered on Account of your Faith in Christ
I often wonder about "holiness" preachers like MacArthur. Will he be able to withstand his own teachings at the judgement seat of Christ? The standard is still perfection, and if one is imperfect (as we all are) the extent of the imperfection is purely academic. If we adopt a legalistic view of salvation, then we all lose. The Apostle Paul pointed out that the only thing the Law can do is condemn, not justify. Only the shed blood of Christ Jesus can do that--NOTHING ELSE!!!
Andrew, you are right on MacArthur's works based salvation, but I viewed your other uploads and I can't find another one that is right.
1. If you are a Christian, why attack genuine brothers in the faith in public on YouTube? You really should debate them in person, because I can see that you do take things too far and stretch to find fault.
2. Piper and MacArthur are a world apart, even you should be able to see that, so I am questioning your motives here.
Well done...I used to follow Mr. MacAurthur and other 'Lordship Salvation' proponents diligently trying to find assurance of salvation. I almost lost my sanity, and wasn't far from the looney bin. All this, and I still wasn't saved. How do I know? Because I met Christ for REAL 6 years later, and realized that MacAurthur's gospel never got it right and pointed me to Christ. Christ FOUND ME, without 'effort' on my part. Only believe...faith and salvation are a GIFT.
Andrew, good work here. It's amazing to me how many people believe that the way they do church is right because of how they do it, or that there saved because of something they do. Sadly most have no real idea what it means to be saved and "Created for good works". Macarthur is the one of the biggest modern day pharisee's I have ever seen, full of ministry Idolatry and other forms of idolatry and you can see it in how he demonizes anyone who doesn't meet his standard of perfection.
God draws us to Him and we Pursue. The Song of Solomon clearly paints this picture. The Song of Solomon is not written for carnal minds but for Saints and demonstrates the love and Pursuit of the Saint and her Lord. David, a Prophet wrote "As the a deer pants after the water brook so pant my heart after thee oh Lord" Psalm 42:1 "If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ let him be accursed, Anathema, Maranata."1 Corinthians 16:22.
AndrewcBain, delete this video now, and end your slander of one of God's great servants. Chrrist work is enough. MacArthur is simply explaining what we need to do to have personal assurance of salvation (no doubts). He says being saved is by faith alone. But that faith is more than intellectual assent.
You are not telling the truth. For any of you watching this watch the preaching of this pastor and you will see that he believes that Jesus is the only way to be saved.
I've seen some of the videos posted by AndrewcBain and it continously makes me wonder if he is purposefully trying to misrepresent everyone he criticises. Most of what I have seen is so taken out of context it's ridiculous. MacArthur's goal here is "How can one know if one's faith is real?" He is in no way claiming that we are justified by works or must add works to faith in order to be saved. He is giving practical biblical exapmles of what to look for to be assured that your faith is real.
I will be so glad when I get to heaven. Jerks like this guy will not be there. Enough to have to deal with them down here. Flooding out all the Mcarthur posts with this drivel. Typical of the devil's work
He's talking about assurance of salvation, not salvation itself. Knowing for sure you are saved is different from being saved. There exists a false assurance: "22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'" Matt 7:22-23
No kidding, taking it out of context. JM is responding to the question of how one knows (or is assured) of their salvation. He has many messages on how salvation is through Christ alone and is simply extolling how works are evidence of faith.
Because I know I am saved, I do works without fear, legalism, or expectations. I am happy to keep the law because I already have my joy in Him and nothing hinders or forces me to do works except desire to deny myself and serve Him.
@kevster4eb Well said. I'm a happy doulos, too! I wonder if McBain has ever "examined himself to see if he's in the faith." He's another NO Lordship Salvationist. There's a bunch of them here on YT. They believe in "decisional regeneration," or "mere mental assent." Look up Sandemanianism. User RedBeetle is notorious among these misguided folks. Antinomian I suspect, too.
you are a heritic I have listtened to MacCarther for years you dubbed a voice to make it sound similair, but what worries will I have I do not stand b4 God for your actions but mine alone
True faith works! The evidence of one's salvation is the fruit. These 11 things seem in keeping with several NT lists. Romans 5, 2 Pet 1, and so on. "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" 2 Corinthians 13:5 "Work out your salvation with fear and trembling."Philippians 2:12
What is wrong with having a tool to help you keep yourself on the right path?
This does not even sound like John MacArthur's voice if you listen to one of his sermons. Play one of his sermons and judge for yourself. I think this is a youtube trying to discredit.
JM's "Proof of Authentic/True Christianity" ~ 1)Love of God, 2)Repentence from Sin, 3)Genuine Humility, 4)Devotion to God's Glory, 5)Continual Prayer, 6)Selfless Love, 7)Separation from the World,
8)Spiritual Growth, 9)Obedient Living,
10)Hunger for God's Word, 11) Transformation of Life
Call that "works?" I call it fruit - proof of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It's what JM teaches, as found in his NAS Study Bible - backed by 77 scriptures.
Today is 8/3/09. If you go to oneplace(dot)com and run through the featured pastors in the large pictures, go to Pastor James McDonald. Click on his picture. He's just done a 3-part series on this same topic, called "Are You Saved?" If you can't find it, click on "Show Archive." It may still be there for a couple of weeks.
Want the truth? Andrew initially quotes a sermon, "Virtue and Assurance, Pt. TWO." Pull up another screen & follow these directions.
Go to gty(dot)org; Resources; Search Resources; type in "Virtue and Assurance"; Choose TRANSCRIPT version of "Virtue and Assurance," Pt. ONE,"; note in first sentence verses being taught - 2 PETER 1:1-11(NAS)
Now read those verses. Closely observe verses 5-11.
As usual, my beloved pastor delivers proper exegesis. :-)
I find two things unbelievable. 1) that you take a book written to help genuine believers fully experience the God of their salvation and twist it to make it seem like it's about their justification; and 2) that this is the best you can do if you want to defame him.
How about this one? Paul wrote "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." I mean, hey, guys, what is so confusing about it all? Everyone must understand ONE thing; God does not want proud people living in His house! He wants us to get the point, that we can do nothing without Him and that s that! Give Him A-A-A-A-LL THE GLORY and THANKS! IF WE GO TO HEAVEN, IT IS BECAUSE OF JESUS, NOT BECAUSE WE ARE "GOOD". Because noone is good, that is, but God!
Everything good comes from God! Paul says"By grace you have been saved through faith"- So who gives grace and faith?God! Yet "faith without works is dead" said James! True it is,but in order to have the good works, again, who do we ask for help, strength, faith and an obedient heart? God, In the name of Jesus! e.g. Paul says "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure" and "To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily." Nice!
I petition my brothers and sisters in Christ to pray for AndrewcBain whose discernment so darkened that he is unable to recognise true men of God and views them as the enemy. He does not realise it but he is blaspheming the Holy Spirit and bringing destruction upon himself. Please ray for God's divine mercy on this man in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Way to try to discredit someone who repeatedly says that Christ is the Way, The Truth and Life and the only way you can get to the Father is through HIm.
I believe you took his words out of context. Assurance is in your works because your actions are a product of your heart. If you are constantly sinning with the thought you can do whatever you want because Jesus works, then you do not Love Christ and probably don't have Him in your heart.
The mentality is, the more people doubt their salvation, the harder they'll work. You'll see this not only in Calvinist churches, but in churches who don't believe in eternal security as well. It's all about control and making ones own ministry look good.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Calvinism is evil.
John MacArthur is a power hungry hypocrite who views himself as indispensible to the church. He sees himself as the glue that holds the church together.
You would think that Calvinism would fully assure people whether or not they are "elect" but it does not at all. Instead it gives way for people like MacArthur to rule over churches through guilt manipulation.
This is totally untrue. I have listened to Dr. MacArthure these many years and have read many of his books. Nowhere does he say that th ebeliever's hope is not based on the resurrection of Christ. As it is, this video supposedly quotes Dr. MacArthur but it is clearly a voice over...it is somebody else speaking. This is nothing more than slandering a man who loves God.
THIS IS REDICULOUS HATEMONGERING.... Anyone and I mean anyone that thinks that Dr. MacArthur thinks this way after looking at his theological beliefs is either self-deceived or mentally ill. WORKS is only the evidence that indeed there is saving faith, not an earning of salvation. Dr. Mc uses biblical standards for people to examine themselves (2Cor 13:5) like those found in 1 John. Calvinism itself is diametrically and theologically opposed to such a notion.
Hyper-Calvinism is unscriptural, false doctrine. It tends to flourish in intellectual pride and in neglect of soul winning, and is a symptom of moral guilt. It is Satan's effort to kill concern and compassion for souls.
John is simply saying to folks to examine themselves & if your deeds & thoughts are not in line with Jesus teachings- then you may be decieving yourself ! Your works testify what you really believe ! This is factual - a person can have what they think is real faith, but real faith produce's fruit worthy of assurance....
Put if MacArthur did come up with this "11 point test" than he truely is leading people astray and also contradicting many of his previous statements.
You are not saved by either faith or works. You are saved by the precious blood of Jesus. If you have been saved you will recieve faith through the Holy Ghost and the works will naturally proceede due to the faith (that is if you are truely saved).
AndrewCBain, you sound like a "dumb ass speaking with man's voice " (2 Peter2:16).
Have you ever bothered to consider any of these men of God's teachings in their entirety? You are nothing but a "Rabshakeh".
You sir (and I use that term loosely), are no better than "the men which sit on the wall, eating their own dung, and drinking their own piss" (2 Kings 18:27).
MacArthur is only stating that many people claim to be Christians and are not, and he is saying THAT IF YOU SAY YOUR A CHRISTIAN YOUR ACTIONS WILL SHOW IT
McArther believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and only those who believe and ask forgiveness and OBEY THE BIBLE AND BELIEVE THE BIBLE IS TRUE unlike all the satan worshipers that say they are christians
God bless you brother...these apostates like Macarthur always are very subtle when they mix salvation is by faith+works but they dont come out and say it directly, they just disguise it with statements like "if you truly love Christ you will keep the law" etc
gypsyjoerosario said it perfect: "John is well documented on correctly teaching the biblical doctrine of election time after time after time. Tools of the devil like yourself will always be around to try and twist and pervert correct biblical teaching. It's a testamant to John and a revealing of you being a pawn of satan that you attack John."
actually its apostates like YOU who are agents of Satan, mate, "but though we or an Angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, LET HIM BE ACCURSED", i used to follow John Macarthur until i found out that he preaches salvation by faith and works as this video proves
I'm sorry you feel that way. God is the only one with the authority to judge me as being an 'agent of satan'. I could care less about my credibility before men. Satan is the father of all lies. Jesus' words are the truth. Your 'quotes' only come from lies. I pray that one day your eyes will open to this.
If you don't like Piper or MacArthur, why do you listen to them and read them? I don't like a single thing that Joel Osteen or Rick Warren teach, so you know what, I pray that God still use his word through them, and I just don't listen to them, or read their material. With you spending so much time trying to pick apart their theology and contradict EVERYTHING that they actually teach, I'm not sure you even have time to study scripture for yourself. Therefore, how would you know they're wrong?
John is well documented on correctly teaching the biblical doctrine of election time after time after time. Tools of the devil like yourself will always be around to try and twist and pervert correct biblical teaching. It's a testamant to John and a revealing of you being a pawn of satan that you attack John.
You have no idea. How do you go to heaven? And on what basis do you make your claim?. Learn truth by first recognizing your desperate state of sin before a holy and righteous God. THen fall to your knees and beg GOd for mercy that He has'nt called your number yet!!
How common it is these days that men follow the words of men, rather than the word of God. That's idolatry.
If you don't know that you are saved, then you are not. How can someone not know that they have been made a new creature. If one is born again, they don't need men to tell them anything.
"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
I REBUKE YOU ANDREW BAIN, IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, I REBUKE YOU!!
Dude you are a freaking false teacher and full of so much crap. Im sick of you posting over all of these hardcore preachers who arnt pansy wussy wimps and saying that they are fake. You are full of the devil and your idea of Christianity is confused. Stop spreading slander. You misread the bible SO badly.
Just another lousy attempt by Satan and his followers to discredit a Godly man and his ministry. Nice spelling of the word pharasee by the way - it shows your intelligence...amazing....
I completely agree with dontweep, 2 comments below. These assertions are completely twisted and out of context.
John teaches the Word of God... And that is exactly what God commands us to do. Period.
I have never heard of this 11 point test nor can I find any information about it. Though, if it does exist, it was probably taken out of context again.
The Bible is our (extensive) guide for living and I would be willing to bet that the 11pt test is based on scripture... NOT AS A SUPLIMENT!
It doesn't sound as though you have actually listened to a sermon from John MacArthur. He constantly reminds us that Christ's death and resurrection are central to one's salvation. He is speaking of our "assurance" of salvation, not HOW to get saved. I think you are confused. Please make sure you listen carefully to John MacArthur's sermons before going on.
Andrew you have never read James have you. Or Romans 12:2. Salvation is assured because of the cross. And you know you have submitted to the lordship if you are doing all 11 of those things. I am not even a Calvinist and I am smart enough to understand that. I think you are trolling on this one.
SAYS YOU...... YOU ARE FULL OF IT[AndrewcBain] & SO IS THIS VIDEO! JOHN IS A GREAT TEACHER OF GOD'S WORD...and he doesn't have a computerized voice either...WHY ALL THE HATE? ARE YOU JEALOUS OF MaCARTHER?YOU BRIT'S ARE NOT TO SMART!!
WOW..okay. First of ...that's not Mac's voice. Secondly sir you are a heretic. Thirdly, I am filled with anger that you would defile the name of my Brother in Christ. He teaches only the truth and I pray that you will listen to it.
Andrew, Andrew who ever you are, remember : Grace Alone, Faith Alone, CHRIST Alone, SCRIPTURE Alone, for the Glory of GOD Alone. You are misguided following False teachers. John MacArthur is a True teacher who has much Christian Street Cred!!!!!!!
THIS VIDEO appears to be a blatant attempt to MISREPRESENT Pastor MacArthur, ... it is FULL of false accusations and SLANDER. the name, "satan," in the Hebrew and Greek means: "slanderer," ... "accuser." Now go figure.
Andrew I think you need to take a hard look at yourself, and think before speak or in this case slander. Where does your 11 point assurance come from? From which John MacAuthur book and what page? Or if heard live or on audio, state when and what topic. Even the voice that you use is not John MacAthur's voice, so your audio is a hoax. You reject the truth of God's word and the men who preach that truth because you love your sin.John 3:19. Let me encourage you. Get saved!!.
I know what he is talking about but it's not a test. It is to help us in our assurance that we are saved by Gods wonderful Grace. John doesn't say ANYTHING about good works saving us. I will try and find it and send it to you.
Satan believes in Jesus, so why is he in hell? If you believe in Jesus and turn and shoot your grandmother in the head and are then shot yourself by the gardner, are you going to heaven because you believe in Jesus or are you in need of repentance when you stand before Jesus for a 'work you commited.'
why? The first quote was completely wrong and the voice overs were all computer voices. Why not instead of looking unto a just a man, look into the Bible for truth?
You pasted that video together. John has only ever preached that belief in Christ is the one and only way to salvation. And that the belief in Christ subsequently puts in our hearts the guide for how to live.
Remove the lie from this site Andrew...or get a sound bite using John's voice. Challenge issued!
you know another "list" that talks about evidences of salvation?
1 john 5:13. - "I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW you have eternal life" (NLT,emphasis added)
The whole book is full of tests for salvation. e.g. V 1:5-7, 2:3, 5, 9, 15. etc.
im sorry bro but u just dont know ur talkin bout.....i think u need 2 stop tryin 2 gain attention by slandering this great man of God.....without works wat good is faith and wat good is faith without works. be careful who u try to "expose" Creflo Dollar and Kenneth Copeland are the real false teachers.
I believe that you are recording that from a different website or area than a John Macarthur sermon...you need to read the Word of God, listen to John Macarthur and THEN comment.
pastor macarthur has the backbone to teach the Bible as it should be taught.you obviously do not agree with his teaching of the doctrine of election and feel cheated about it..so it is with the pride of men
first off j mac is quoting scripture here, second,he's saying that to be assured your are saved, you will bear fruit. hes not saying you have to do works to get saved but works are a demenstration that you are,
It's funny that you use the Microsoft voice instead of MacArthur's voice. Were are you getting these quotes from? You could be pulling them completely out of context.
This Guy just misquotes and distorts what people say. He is the master of hearing what he wants. He is a deceiver and a liar. I tried to talk to him and he cannot even follow an argument. He twists and contorts the Word of God. Through eisegesis he shows his points. Hes a 1 verse cherry picker...
Andrew *sigh* you don't understand his position and the Catholic position. If you think that MacArthur's view is the same thing as the Catholic view then you are terribly ignorant. The difference is that Catholics believe that works are meritorious, while we believe that works are a result of salvific faith and are not meritorious. If one is a Christian, one acts like a Christian. If one is an Atheist, one acts like an Atheist. One cannot be a Christian and act like an Atheist.
The one thing that will not change is the work that Christ has done. It is complete and finished and to believe in it having been done for you is evidence enough that you are in Christ and 100 percent saved. It would be more benefitting of Johns congregation to talk more about Christ's work than our feelings
Oh, really? Just a belief that it's all been done for me? That's all it takes to be assured of salvation? That is what you call superficial faith, a presumption. "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature" Should you not examine yourself as Paul commands us to do? You should do a careful reading of 1 John to see if you are in the faith.
reprobates can imitate good works of a believer, and most peoples idea of progressive sanctification is acting more holy when everybodys looking. The bible tells us to do our works in secret. But what I think the issue with John Macarthur is, is that he is completely focused on "feelings" feelings change based upon many different things and should never be looked at as assuring or whatever.
I don't know what your Christianity looks like, but no reprobate can imitate the works of a true believer! Read Matt 5:3-11 and see the fruit true Christian will look like, and the greatest sorrow of his heart is that he falls short of being these all the time. The bible tells us to do our works in secret...you sure? "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matt 5:16)
So what if you doubt your salvation, andrew? Do you just think to yourself, "Well, Christ was resurrected"? Regeneration is more than a little belief, it is a new creature, evidence by his new good deeds which he now loves. "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?"
Faith without works is dead. Show me your faith without works and I'll show you my faith by my works. At least, that's what James writes. i.e. if you don't have these 'moral pursuits' then you likely don't have real faith. Isn't it funny that James asks us to examine our works to see whether we really have faith or not? This must mean that faith is MORE than simply a mental or intellectual ascent to certain facts about Christ, even the resurrection.
Ephesians 2:8-10? For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV)
And the point is, as far as my comment, what is faith? MacArthur would never question that Christ was sufficient. Instead, Andrew should know that MacArthur has been battling what has been called 'easy-believism' or the 'lordship salvation' issue for years in America. He is constantly making that faith means more than just an intellectual or verbal ascent, it means a real spiritual delight in Christ, as he is revealed in the Scriptures, with a whole-hearted ascent flowing from this.
And the major issue then becomes the necessity of regeneration. He is calling people to examine themselves to see if they are truly born again. He is not calling them to trust in themselves for salvation, or in their works, but to examine themselves to see if they are truly in Christ, as that state is described in the Bible. That's my take anyway
Sorry Heathac. Nothing really separates your your view position is basically the Catholic position. Catholics say we are saved by faith + works. OK. They say faith is belief, and on top of this belief, we need to be humble, obey the Law etc. Now, I know, I know you're crying out, "I believe faith alone without works". But how do you define faith? Is faith more than belief? Is something more than belief required?
If you say "yes, something more than belief is required", then you are simply echoing the Catholic position of faith + works. For example, I know that you say that faith is humility, faith is love and faith is obedience. Now, seriously, isn't that a subtle trick? You say, "I'm not teaching salvation by works - Faith alone! Is what I believe". But all along you are teaching works salvation.
When you say, "faith alone" you really mean "humility and sincerity alone" because you say faith is humility. When you say "faith alone" you actually mean "obedience alone" because you say faith is obedience. So... at the end of the day, you have divided faith into many parts -- by saying that faith is humility, faith is obedience etc - so that every time you say "salvation by faith" you really mean salvation by humility, salvation by obedience, salvation by commitment...
WOW. Now you are misrepresenting me like you are MacArthur and the others. I never said love was faith (I actually denied it), I never said faith was humility or obedience either. I said that faith is a spiritual delight in Christ, and from this delight springs our works, which play no part in justification, but certainly play a part in our sanctification.
I would agree that faith is "belief"-that's the obvious meanign of the word. But I would qualify that it must be belief issuing from a regenerate heart. Thus it is not merely an 'intellectual ascent,' but a belief which springs from a heart made right by the work of the Spirit in regeneration, and so faith involves not only the mind, but the will, and the affections. My point is that you are over-simplifying the issue in order to slander MacArthur.
"I said that faith is a spiritual delight in Christ, and from this delight springs our works, which play no part in justification, but certainly play a part in our sanctification."
Amen. You said it, Heath.
Andrew, how do you know that you are saved? What evidence do you have that you are?

I think it's great that they want to know the bible, and things about God.
But there was a time... when knowing God in an experiential way like Noah, or Abraham... was more important... than knowing things about him.
Just a thought.
chrissyferraro 10 months ago
There are either uneducated, or lacking common sense.
chrissyferraro 10 months ago
We must live by Faith, not by sight.
I say this strickly of Pharisees and Macarthurites.
chrissyferraro 10 months ago
What I mean by that... is that the aim is jesus. In the light that we are to allow Him to cover us... instead of going back to the days of adam and eve making fig leaves.
and blaming God... and Satan... and other people.
Man. So much freedom is to be found.
It's like they're afraid of who they are.
Where is the embracement of Christ then?
Where is the grace then?
"There is no Fear in Love."
So allow Truth to withhold itself. It's true. It doesn't change. Defending it doesn't get you anywhere.
chrissyferraro 10 months ago
Pharisees are often associated with "spiritual abuse" as well. So look that up. :)
Great book "The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse." Totally find that in his church. People are truly lost there. It's like an entire ministry just to attend and try to have a real conversation with someone.
God bless those who do that.
Because... i give them one thing. "They are trying." Just missing that the aim... is Jesus and not them.
So sad.
Pray for them.
That they learn what the words they use actually mean.
chrissyferraro 10 months ago
as well as this: Since when is truth in love about totally disregarding someone's spirit, heart, soul, and body.
I'm just saying... it's an approach to life issue
chrissyferraro 10 months ago
I also want to add. That while going there. I found it incredibly ironic how the church is called "Grace" when it's the one thing... that they are furthest from truly understanding. It's so sad that is the truth about the church.
They say... "They will know we are christians by our love."
Well, fyi... love is when you actually care about another person. Not when your ego is driving your every thought toward them.
I feel sad for them, because they are truly blind. They(Macarthur & Macarthurites).
chrissyferraro 10 months ago

Funny but the Reformers all said, "Look to the cross or look to your baptism," when someone is struggling with assurance. MacArthur says look to WORKS for your assurance. To look to works for assurance is to build your house on sinking sand!
cranmer1959 1 year ago
This is a total misrepresentation of the whole message that John MacArthur gave that day. He talked about assurance of our salvation, not being saved. One can be saved and not enjoy complete assurance, and John MacArthur explains that in detail, and ultimately cites that Christ's work is all there is. Again, this is a sad misrepresentation of what MacArthur says on assurance!
yeshualovesme1 1 year ago
If you watch John MacArthur, and listen to how he responds to people who are struggling, he absolutely thrives on passing a condemning verdict on people's standing before God, something that is NEVER, any human's job.
If John MacArthur's message of 'grace', is truly what Jesus is all about, the world is in desperate of less of Him. Praise God that He sent his son to love us, not to speak a perverted gospel of condemnation and judgement. Conviction & judgement are the job of God alone.

Only believe...faith and salvation are a GIFT.
craigwallace68 1 year ago

MacArthur still says salvation is by grace.

I find two things unbelievable. 1) that you take a book written to help genuine believers fully experience the God of their salvation and twist it to make it seem like it's about their justification; and 2) that this is the best you can do if you want to defame him.
There is nothing in here that even makes sense.

God, In the name of Jesus! e.g. Paul says "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure" and "To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily." Way to try to discredit someone who repeatedly says that Christ is the Way, The Truth and Life and the only way you can get to the Father is through HIm.

"John MacArthur is a Pharisee"
Tell us something we didn't already know.

Have you ever bothered to consider any of these men of God's teachings in their entirety? You are nothing but a "Rabshakeh".
You sir (and I use that term loosely), are no better than "the men which sit on the wall, eating their own dung, and drinking their own piss" (2 Kings 18:27).

MacArthur is only stating that many people claim to be Christians and are not, and he is saying THAT IF YOU SAY YOUR A CHRISTIAN YOUR ACTIONS WILL SHOW IT
YOU SILLY PERSON
FrostyBudIV 3 years ago
this is WRONG
McArther believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and only those who believe and ask forgiveness and OBEY THE BIBLE AND BELIEVE THE BIBLE IS TRUE unlike all the satan worshipers that say they are christians
FrostyBudIV 3 years ago
God bless you brother...these apostates like Macarthur always are very subtle when they mix salvation is by faith+works but they dont come out and say it directly, they just disguise it with statements like "if you truly love Christ you will keep the law" etc

actually its apostates like YOU who are agents of Satan, mate, "but though we or an Angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, LET HIM BE ACCURSED", i used to follow John Macarthur until i found out that he preaches salvation by faith and works as this video proves
greekgod41 3 years ago

How common it is these days that men follow the words of men, rather than the word of God. That's idolatry.
If you don't know that you are saved, then you are not. How can someone not know that they have been made a new creature. If one is born again, they don't need men to tell them anything.
"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

How watered down your religion is Andrew.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Get saved!!.
truthwarrior323 3 years ago
I know what he is talking about but it's not a test. It is to help us in our assurance that we are saved by Gods wonderful Grace. John doesn't say ANYTHING about good works saving us. I will try and find it and send it to you.
Galden172007 3 years ago
Satan believes in Jesus, so why is he in hell? If you believe in Jesus and turn and shoot your grandmother in the head and are then shot yourself by the gardner, are you going to heaven because you believe in Jesus or are you in need of repentance when you stand before Jesus for a 'work you commited.'

sorry i meant to write, the whole book is full of tests that confirm our salvation.
The point is, these tests dont save us, but they are evidences of the Spirit working inside of us.
Romans 6:19-23.

The whole book is full of tests for salvation. e.g. V 1:5-7, 2:3, 5, 9, 15. etc.
Also 2 Cor 13:5, also calls for a testing.

Andrew Bain promotes a 5 point test- so much for L.O.G.I.C. from him.

Andrew Bain has an exhaustive love- so much that he hates everyone equally

You claim that we believe in a works based salvation? Well I would make the claim that you are an antinomian.
20485742895729875 4 years ago
Andrew *sigh* you don't understand his position and the Catholic position. If you think that MacArthur's view is the same thing as the Catholic view then you are terribly ignorant. The difference is that Catholics believe that works are meritorious, while we believe that works are a result of salvific faith and are not meritorious. If one is a Christian, one acts like a Christian. If one is an Atheist, one acts like an Atheist. One cannot be a Christian and act like an Atheist.
20485742895729875 4 years ago 2
The one thing that will not change is the work that Christ has done. It is complete and finished and to believe in it having been done for you is evidence enough that you are in Christ and 100 percent saved. It would be more benefitting of Johns congregation to talk more about Christ's work than our feelings
danslamusique 4 years ago
Oh, really? Just a belief that it's all been done for me? That's all it takes to be assured of salvation? That is what you call superficial faith, a presumption. "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature" Should you not examine yourself as Paul commands us to do? You should do a careful reading of 1 John to see if you are in the faith.
ajrock2000 4 years ago
This is a reply to danslamusique's 1st message.
ajrock2000 4 years ago
reprobates can imitate good works of a believer, and most peoples idea of progressive sanctification is acting more holy when everybodys looking. The bible tells us to do our works in secret. But what I think the issue with John Macarthur is, is that he is completely focused on "feelings" feelings change based upon many different things and should never be looked at as assuring or whatever.
danslamusique 4 years ago
I don't know what your Christianity looks like, but no reprobate can imitate the works of a true believer! Read Matt 5:3-11 and see the fruit true Christian will look like, and the greatest sorrow of his heart is that he falls short of being these all the time. The bible tells us to do our works in secret...you sure? "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matt 5:16)
ajrock2000 4 years ago
This is a reply to danslamusique's 2nd message.
ajrock2000 4 years ago
So what if you doubt your salvation, andrew? Do you just think to yourself, "Well, Christ was resurrected"? Regeneration is more than a little belief, it is a new creature, evidence by his new good deeds which he now loves. "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?"
ajrock2000 4 years ago
Faith without works is dead. Show me your faith without works and I'll show you my faith by my works. At least, that's what James writes. i.e. if you don't have these 'moral pursuits' then you likely don't have real faith. Isn't it funny that James asks us to examine our works to see whether we really have faith or not? This must mean that faith is MORE than simply a mental or intellectual ascent to certain facts about Christ, even the resurrection.
heathac 4 years ago 2
Ephesians 2:8-10? For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV)
and James 2:18 (see sentence 2 of prev comment)
Works co-exist with faith - it is an outpouring from and genuine response to true faith - but is not a requirement to be saved. Christ is sufficient.
ut008 4 years ago
And the point is, as far as my comment, what is faith? MacArthur would never question that Christ was sufficient. Instead, Andrew should know that MacArthur has been battling what has been called 'easy-believism' or the 'lordship salvation' issue for years in America. He is constantly making that faith means more than just an intellectual or verbal ascent, it means a real spiritual delight in Christ, as he is revealed in the Scriptures, with a whole-hearted ascent flowing from this.
heathac 4 years ago
And the major issue then becomes the necessity of regeneration. He is calling people to examine themselves to see if they are truly born again. He is not calling them to trust in themselves for salvation, or in their works, but to examine themselves to see if they are truly in Christ, as that state is described in the Bible. That's my take anyway
heathac 4 years ago
Sorry Heathac. Nothing really separates your your view position is basically the Catholic position. Catholics say we are saved by faith + works. OK. They say faith is belief, and on top of this belief, we need to be humble, obey the Law etc. Now, I know, I know you're crying out, "I believe faith alone without works". But how do you define faith? Is faith more than belief? Is something more than belief required?
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
If you say "yes, something more than belief is required", then you are simply echoing the Catholic position of faith + works. For example, I know that you say that faith is humility, faith is love and faith is obedience. Now, seriously, isn't that a subtle trick? You say, "I'm not teaching salvation by works - Faith alone! Is what I believe". But all along you are teaching works salvation.
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
When you say, "faith alone" you really mean "humility and sincerity alone" because you say faith is humility. When you say "faith alone" you actually mean "obedience alone" because you say faith is obedience. So... at the end of the day, you have divided faith into many parts -- by saying that faith is humility, faith is obedience etc - so that every time you say "salvation by faith" you really mean salvation by humility, salvation by obedience, salvation by commitment...
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
WOW. Now you are misrepresenting me like you are MacArthur and the others. I never said love was faith (I actually denied it), I never said faith was humility or obedience either. I said that faith is a spiritual delight in Christ, and from this delight springs our works, which play no part in justification, but certainly play a part in our sanctification.
heathac 4 years ago
I would agree that faith is "belief"-that's the obvious meanign of the word. But I would qualify that it must be belief issuing from a regenerate heart. Thus it is not merely an 'intellectual ascent,' but a belief which springs from a heart made right by the work of the Spirit in regeneration, and so faith involves not only the mind, but the will, and the affections. My point is that you are over-simplifying the issue in order to slander MacArthur.
heathac 4 years ago
"I said that faith is a spiritual delight in Christ, and from this delight springs our works, which play no part in justification, but certainly play a part in our sanctification."
Amen. You said it, Heath.
Andrew, how do you know that you are saved? What evidence do you have that you are?
