I agree with Khulanic the kilts look fockin stupid like the tune is great and great for the piper he got famous for this, but if your going to rock out Scottish style please do so with the right uniform bits, the bass drummer has no plaid in which he should be wearing it, the piper needs a better fitting kilt so do the rest of these people but I do enjoy just the piping part couldn't give a damn bout the song, plus the recording is nice sharp and clear
A Scottish Kilt should be no longer than just below the knee and no higher than above the knee, after being buckled. Knock offs are made to any length and real Kilts are measured per person. Just thought you all should know.
@gaelicrincess33 thank you for your input. It is correct info and Madonna should have kept the kilts at the traditional lengths not put dresses on the boys after all she is representing Scotland and the piping scene here. If she is going to do it do it correctly!
And still people are going on about those kilts. Who cares. This is a pop concert with a twist of Scottish. And, once more, the drummers are part of Madonnas dance troup . As for feeling sorry for the piper, you don't have to, he got really famous after doing this tour. Basically what I'm saying is forget the debate about the kilts and enjoy the video.
@khulanic is a provocation, not is a scottisch traditional concert... the drummer not have a sporran.... sorry for my enghland language.... ma i is italian, italian highland bagpiper
I highly doubt the drummers are part of Madonna's dance troup. With the skill on display, I would say they are regular pipe band drummers. Especially the tenor drummers
I read these posts after the vid.... The first thing I noticed were the gay extra long dresses the vogued out drummers wore. Nothing manly about those. Lorne rocked of course.
I think most of you lot should read a little about the background of this part of Madonna's concert before posting comments. The Piper is Lorne Cousin, a very professional and accomplished Piper. His pipes were fitted with microphones and he plays live...no faking it. The drummers are actually all dancers from the show, taught to play side and tenor (including flourishing) in a very short space of time, by Steven Kilbride and the kilts are long because that's the way Madonna wanted it.
Gosh you don't have to get so upset over this. The discussion re the kilt length was discussed by several of us that actually have played in pipe bands so we have some idea of legal lengths of kilts. She should keep to the Scottish tradition of Kilt regulations "heraldry"-why should she be able to break tradition. The piping was great and so was the drumming-thought it was great she used pipes and drums with her rock concert. Shame she made the boys wear a dress and she broke tradition & reg's.
"Legal" kilt lengths - what is illegal in kilt lengths? I am Scottish, play in a pipe band and have 3 kilts. I am not upset because of comments made here, just trying to be informative. Now maybe you can tell me if Madonna got a fine from the Scottish Kilt industry because the kilts were not a "legal" length?
but if its that long...its not a kilt anymore. that was shocking tbh. The video i mean. Screw Madonna, this just proves everything she touches turns to crap. The only thing id say is i feel sorry for those drummers..and piper.
The tune is called Susan Mcleod, it's a Strathspey a dancing tune, but the beginning when the piper is playing alone in the build up is a Piobaireachd, but i dont know the name of that one.
The tune is Susan MacLeod...which was written by a father who had just lost his daughter as I was told. The piper is Lorne Cousin, and I doubt he's faking it...he's a championship piper.
the piper im sure is lorne cousin , who is very accomplished, and he was probably told by the costume department thats what he had to wear, i wouldnt complain for the amount of money he presumably got paid.
do you play in a pipe band? Which one if you do? It is a shame the pipes take so long to perfect. I think if you can get pipes back into the music rooms in schools you would have the best chance of getting young ones back into it. Maybe branch out into the public schools not just keeping it to the upper class private schools. Talent is classless.
Are they Military reg? I don't think so. Just a couple inches under the knee cap is military Regulations but I am not sure. Do they have a winter Kilt in the Military also? This must just be civilian kilt code of dress.
Ive played drums in pipe bands for quite sometime, watched other bands since i was tiny, watching the edinburgh military tatoo, and i can Promise you, those are 'not' kilts.

The kilt lengths look stupid. We would have enjoyed this footage more if the kilts were shorter - well then again it did give us all a good laugh.

is about fashion and thats it =/ no more explaining ... it looks good
artur15vzla 2 years ago
@khulanic That is why Madonna decided the length of the kilt was to be longer.
And part payment for the piper Lorn was a set pipes.
