  • Its hard to believe how much I used to like this game...

    almost embarrassing lol

Its gotta be close to 20 years old now.

  • Heh, I remember this game (and this version specifically). Don't remember it so much as looking like a Praying Mantis with pink flesh beating a mongoloid to death, but such are the rose-coloured glasses of nostalgia!

  • DAMN man

you seriously fucked him up in the 1st round

    you must be very good

    quick question though

    can this run on windows

  • Usually the sounds in DOS games won't work in Windows, and it is likely the game won't work otherwise either, or not in a playable way. This is why DosBox exists (google it) ;)

  • I finally got a DOXbox emulator

    Now I can play this

    this game ROCKS!!!!!

  • Once i created an absollutelly beast boxer, i dunno how i did it but i destroyed all opponents including the Champ in 1-2 rounds, without any cheats ofcourse(like capslock and others). That was on mac version of the game.

Another time i almost TKO-ed champ in 1st round(2 knockdowns) but finally lost by unanimous decision in 15 rounds. I like to fight Smockin' also- he's pretty tricky and powerful boxer.

  • Lol I've always loved punching this guy. He's rather weak for being in 3rd position.

  • punching the guy when he's down is so cheap.

  • Thinking about the real life, if you were allowed to punch a knocked down opponent, you could hit the opponents face against the floor as hard as you can, almost freely. So the opponent surely wouldn't be able to get up in time anymore, and more over (in heaviest classes), he would probably get such a severe concussion of the brain that he could die, or almost die and get severe permanent damage.

  • But in this game, this trick gives very little help, if at all. If you manage to do it well, you could make the opponent's oxygen bar to be something like 0.3% - 2% (depends on how fast the enemy recovers D) lower than otherwise when he's up again. You can only hit the opponent when he's on his knees, and even then, it's often hard to hit him. Moreover there aren't any super powerful punches you could use on him, and even if you got his D bar back to zero, he wouldn't be knocked again.

  • So there doesn't seem to be very good reasons to regard this trick as lame in this game. After all, it needs some skill and it gives very little help. That's why I use it when I want to, as a normal little trick among the others.

  • I'm confused now. What the hell is low and high sim mode? I thought I had to do with how you visualized the fight or the opponent.

  • The simulation setting isn't a graphics setting.

High simulation: The AI of the enemy is simulated with the full complexness. In general, this makes the enemies more clever and harder to beat. The complexness of the AI gives a bit more work for the processor.

Low simulation: A simplified AI is used. In general, this makes the boxers stupider and easier to beat. The simpleness releases some resources, which could make the game run a bit smoother on a slow computer (by early 90's standards!).

  • Well then high simulation mode is the default setting. It didn't know it had something to do with the fighters ability.

Now tell me how do mange to record a match to to post it here later?

I tried a couple of time to KO the champ, it was not possible, he keeps getting up, you can onluy TKO. Have you tried that?

  • I now fought Smokin' Joe Blow several times with a heavy weight boxer who's as short and light as possible in that division (and with smallest number of fights ofc). Most of the fights went so that I just won on points. But one of the fights I managed to KO him once in the 1st round and then again in the 3rd round. But I won that fight with unanimous decision again. I think the Champ is tougher to beat with the smallest number of fights, however :)

  • He seems very defensive. He often moves backwards while most boxers seem to rush towards you always when they aren't much more tired than you. I also noticed that it's very hard to hit him; most punches, which weren't done right after a hit punch, missed. And then he countered with some very tough and fast combos.

  • What do you train most, speed, power or stamina? Lets say for the first ten fights and after that.

  • Well if you want to KO/TKO your opponents, very low stamina (5%-50% of the power, the percentage grows as the need for defending grows) is enough for the first ten fights. Power should be very high in the beginning, and then mostly speed should be trained.

    USEFUL TIP:

One should note that when the starting attributes are given to a new boxer, increasing an already high attribute doesn't result in subtractions while it does when training. That's why I usually create new boxers with power only.

  • I can't say what should the final attributes be like for the KO/TKO style, cos I haven't TKO:ed the Champ in 18 fights yet. But I'm sure the speed attribute should always be kept the highest attribute after you have managed to train it higher than the power. Moreover, if you're skilled enough, there isn't any reason to raise the stamina over the power before fighting Crunch/the Champ, and stamina could be held lowest for all fights.

  • I think the hardest fghter to face in the minimun number of fights is smoking joe blow. Do you agree? I wished he was ranked in the top 5 with more power, speed and stamina. I think he is the smartest figher of all.

  • This means you can win the championship on your 18th fight?

Can you k.o. the champ on the 18th fight?

Wish this game could be played online.

  • Yes I've won the championship on my 18th fight, but I haven't managed to do it with KO/TKO. However I've done it with unanimous decision having the maximum number of rounds (15).

I think I could do the trick easily with the low simulation mode, but using that option would be lame. I'll post a video if and when I manage to beat the champ with TKO on my 18th fight (using high simulation ofc).

  • Post a 3R fight video were you beat the champ via decision. I've done this too, but I don't play it using simulation, I play 3 R fights only. All KO's except against the Champ, but I've managed to drop him. You can basically win the first 17th fights on 1st round with the same agressive approach, but have to box your way to U.D. win, against the champ.

  • Done :)

BTW, what do you mean with "I don't play it using simulation"? There's only high and low simulation options (here the simulation refers to the AI of the enemy boxers).

  • Yes. I'd just like to see how you fight him. Damm, I'm out of shape, I tried getting to the champ on my 18th fight but lost a decision to the No. 2, and couldn't k.o other 4 fighters. You did not tell your thoughts on Smokin Joe Blow

  • I meant, low simulation.

  • Nice.
