  • Make Nachos with Jam for breakfasts

  • It's 3 o' clock in the morning and i'm soooooo hungry!!!!! ARGHH!!!!!!!!!

  • I have to teel you, your dish looks great, but as @DutchPs3Gamers said this dish is bulgarian.I'm from BG and we do it a little more different ;)

  • @mrinlove1000 I'm from Yugoslavia, and we to make it a lot diffrent... we make it like an lasagna, only , that we use patatos instead of pasta as the layer inbetween the ground beef with tomatos

  • dammit i wasn't hungry when i started watching this video ==

  • please make a video of lasagna..

  • not only do i love your recipes but i love your theme song :P

  • OMG!It is starting to get epidemic proportions!!! Whenever there is a video about something Greek there will be always anti-Greek comments by people mostly from Turkey and the Balkan countries disputing about the origins of the thing in the video. In the final i don't give a damn if their is a Serbian version of moussaka. Why i should i care to learn it? I clicked this video to watch a Greek-Australian cooking a traditional Greek food not a slavic bullshit!!! And that's the end of discussion!!!!

  • Although I am from Greece: Mousaka might be a greek name and developed mostly by Greeks, but its origins lie in Serbia. There they used potatoes and yoghurt instead of eggplant and white sauce. Also I have to say that we mostly do it here with 1 layer of potatoes + 1 layer of eggplant. 2 layers of eggplant is shitty of you're also serving people who don't like it.

  • He is a cook, ofcourse he's going to do his own version...

SO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND PAY ATENTION TO THE DREWL ON YOUR MOUTH, BECAUSE HIS FOOD IS FUCKING AMAZING

    :D

  • @Norafreak (i'm greek so excuse my english) mousaka is a certain dish and very typical of the greek cuisine. Anyone can do their own version but you don't call it "mousaka"... Mousaka has deep fried potatoe slices and deep fried eggplant slices.. this is not mousakka, but looks really good..

  • Lol moussaka is a Bosnian dish ( I'm not 100% sure) but this doesn't really look like it not saying that it's bad though XD

  • @DutchPs3Gamers actually its greek lol xP

  • @DutchPs3Gamers Bulgarian :)

  • could you use Philadelphia instead of butter in the topping?

  • this look soooo delicious

  • Ima vise vrsta musake, ali originalen se radi ovako...

  • to nije musaka.

  • thumbs if you did not knew egg plant is also called brinjal ( no ego or showing off here ) !

  • 1. Never use olive oil to brown stuff... it's really easy to smoke (low burning point) and become saturated and full of trans fats.

    2. Oil sprays and non-stick dont mix...you'll destroy it over time. I think he's using an aluminium anodized pan.

To make it healthy, use stainless steel, lightly coat with 1tbsp canola or grapeseed to brown.

  • @ezralimm My dear sir, olive oil has the best burning point. So it is much better to use it instead of than other fats or oils.

  • LOL he sounds so turned on whenever he's describing the food

  • looks like a good recipe but don't name it mousaka cause it's not.Greetings from Greece :)

  • and its not a greek turkish or serbian dish its a all out balkan dish and i should know i live in Bulgaria

  • ok but this is not moussaka in bulgaria we do it different and alot better i think

  • looks yummy but this not a moussaka

  • It's regarded to be a complicate dish, because of the preparation needed. We cut the eggplants in long slices, which we leave in water and vinegar or salt for about an hour, in order to prevent the absorption of oil when you fry them afterwards. Of course, we use at least 1/4 of a cup olive oil (and that's the conservative option!) to fry the eggplants. Oil-spraying the pan would seem rather out of question for traditional cook.

  • I'm Greek and I must say this is a very...personal translation of moussaka! It should be tasty with all this bechamel and cheese! But this is not the traditional greek recipe. Nowadays in Greece we usually make it with eggplants AND potatoes, plus the bechamel on top. But originally moussaka is made only with eggplants and a type o bechamel on top based on yogurt. Regarding spices, we commonly use black pepper and nutmeg and that's it.

  • I am bulgarian and i can say that moussaka is pretty awesome ;d i love it

  • hahaha as soon as i saw the title of this video i clicked on it just to see the Greeks complaining about it

    ohhh goooddd how predictable ^^^^

  • cumtastic

  • Moussaka is a Turkish meal and I live in Turkey. I can say this is not a Moussaka. Moussaka have bieber and potatoes and other stuff in it.

  • is made with a mix of Bulgarian yogurt, eggs and flour. In the Bulgarian version you can substitute the potatoes with zucchini or eggplants, but not all in once. The spice mixes are also different - smoked paprika, black pepper and savory for the Bulgarian version, and cinnamon, cloves, oregano and black pepper for the Greek version.

Personally I like them both, each of them have distinctive and original taste.

  • Musaka is generally a Balkan meal prepared in Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey(maybe Albania too?). While sharing the name and the basic cooking technique this meal varies greatly from country to country and from region to region. In Bulgaria the Musaka is made from potatoes, carrots, minced beef, onion, garlic, tomatoes and a spice mix. In Greece the add eggplants and zucchini. The topping is also different while the Greek recipe uses a variation of the bechamel sauce the Bulgarian

  • Musaka is SERBIAN meal!!!!!

  • this was an awful recipe!

  • I like this one. I hate potatoes in oven dishes anyway. @aekforever21g I've never understood why people like cumin. Since the taste of this dish might get a bit bland, it is quite reccomendable to add some chili peppers. Not much, just a bit for the extra flavour.

  • Well I like this version. I hate potatoes in oven dishes.

  • turkish mousaka is way better

  • To tell the truth, this is not a musaka...

  • I am from greece and i have to say, this is no moussakas!!!!

moussakas has squash (or zucchini if you prefer), potatoes, and in the meat you don't put onions, but carnation and cumin. also in the bessamel (the cream on top) must have some cheese in it, so that the flavour of the egg is not very strong.

last but not least, you don't SPRAY olive oil, cause this is NOT(!!!) olive oil, it's trash!!! if you want the reall recipe, send me an e-mail at sharktale21g@yahoo.gr,

  • This is the greek version of moussaka. In Bulgaria we make it with patatoes not with eggplant :)))

  • U should make hawian style short ribs

  • just out of curiosity...are you the one who sings the song at the beginning of your videos? :D

  • @joshrea08 Honestly, idk - i live in hawaii and here, we call it banana lumpia..is the kind you're talking about a fillipino recipe?

  • @iwuznvrhere in tagalog banana lumpia is turon. there should be some recipes on youtube but i think robjnixon can do a good job on it.

  • @iwuznvrhere yes! =)

i didnt see you all bitching about carrot in party pies. . .

  • OMG THIS IS NOT MOUSSAKA........MOUSSAKA HAS POTATOES......

  • @TheReminimalized if you were listening to what he was saying...he said its his version of moussaka...his version...it doesnt matter if he puts potatoes or whatever in it...

  • I wouldn't make moussaka that way... Your version is way too bland! You haven't put salt, pepper, garlic or anything??? Also take off the eggplant skin and slice it in rings so it cooks through and isn't leathery. Just saying...

  • i'm Bulgarian Musakka is a great food and i et it 3 times a week great job Nicko you nailed it.

  • mousakas is greek food and i say that because im GREEK

  • lemon bars!!!!!!!!!!

  • could you make LEMON BARS?

  • could you make LEMON BARS?

  • I'm concerned about the toughness of the eggplant skin and the lack of seasonings added to the mince/onion/tomato mix. I'd suggest adding salt, pepper, garlic to the mince/onion/tomato mix and peeling the eggplant.

  • @vanscoyoc the skin isn't tough after it's been baked in the juices from the sauce and the cheese in the oven for 20 minutes.

  • please do some chinese noodles or some chinese rice pretty pleaseee!!!

  • looks very shit..........

  • I dont like eggplant can it be changed to an other vegetable or something else and still be that dish?

  • im Greek so the traditional mousakas has a layer of fried potatos cutted in round shape,a layer o fried eggplants, then the mince beef which someone can cook however they want(with onions and tomatoes) and lastly there's a layer of bechamel and if you want to you add a little of cheese...and there you go...Nicko's mousakas is also very good!!I just wrote the traditional greek recipe :D :D

  • Looks really good!!

  • you put the old theme tune back FUCK YEAH!

  • I need to give this a try.

  • i always put mashed potato and tomato slices on top of mine..

  • Dear Nicko,

I love your dishes but I am Greek and this is not how you make Moussaka... Im sure its delicious but real Moussaka has a few more twists to it that give it its unique flavour. I would love to give you some tips on how to make a real Greek Moussaka. :D

  • wait isnt Roux for soups and sauces

  • "grab some cheddar cheese that i am just gonna, sprinkle over the top"

  • @DarkH0riz0n I think he's hot either way!

  • I suggest to add banana ketchup when adding the diced tomato.. Even when making spaghetti. It will be really delicious.

  • @RicaWinter08 what are you? Filipino?

  • @yko1313 Oh yes I am! ^_^ and that's the secret ingredient in making delicious sauce. That's why I don't eat pasta on some restaurants -_-"

  • I use potatoe for base, eggplant in the middle layer and zuchinis at the top layer with lots of bechamel sauce, lots of nutmeg and cheese. It's to die for!

  • wow, nicko you make the most perfect bechamel sause!!

  • looks great Nicko I'm going to have to try this

  • i hate eggplants... replace eggplants to potato and it will be great ^_^

  • @TamPonchik Good idea!! :O I never thought of that!! ^^

  • @TamPonchik Good idea!! :O I never thought of that!! ^^

  • You should try sprinkling some salt on those aubergine slices and let them sit for a few minutes to sweat out that bitter eggplant juice, it's not a great flavor and is easily removed.

Pat the slices dry after they are visibly sweaty and then proceed with the recipe as shown.

  • make kebab!

  • If you put mashed potatoes on the top, it's almost like a Greek shepherd's pie.

  • Hi Niko!

I want to thank you for the your delicious dishes, I Asking if you can do a video of how to make a Shawarma ausie style;)

  • Most Greeks prefer to cut the eggplant in stripes from the front part to the back. Then we put them side by side in the pyrex. Thus we have a thinner 1st layer.

Then we put in the mixture, another layer of eggplant stripes etc...

  • They look very delicious

    thank you :)

  • Sexii noises. xD

  • "let's plate this bad boy up" x)

  • I thought it was a desert! My bad!

  • as serbian im telling you.. this aint no moussaka :D try making it with potato and in layers. trust me it will be much better :P

  • In BULGARIA we make it with chopped potatoes instead of the eggplant(its magnificent) and we dont put cheese on top :) its one of my favourite dishes :))

  • @stan007g we make it like that in serbia too

  • @stan007g better with cheese :3

  • @stan007g

The use of potatoes is common alternative in Greece too.

  • ii)c) a solid base for your food

d)finally you can add some bread crumbs in the rhue in order to have a more crispy texture after you bake this

These tips are well meant ofc.

Loving your show, keep em coming! (sorry for wall of text)

  • i)first of all, congratulations for your show and for your version of moussaka.

but for moussaka, as a greek person I have some tips if you want to make it more traditional.

a)the eggplants usually are cut lenght wise ,not like rings nor cubes,

b)you dont have to fry the eggplants you can put them in the oven for awhile in high temperatures, its lighter this way.

c)in greece we put a layer of slightly cooked potatoes, cut lenghtwise too (same principal as with eggplants) in order to create a

  • oh just one thing. usually we put a little bit of cheese in that rhue thingy.

  • what the?.. o.O

    where are the potatoes XD?

my mum always does this dish with the potatoes, and I bet is way tastier that way o.o

  • sweet transition at the end! Nice recipe too ;)

  • Hey Nicko I am greek and I have tried all the alternatives but as for the eggplants this is how I do it and I believe is the best. way to do them. A day before I prep the eggplants. I cut them in thin but large slices and fry then in olive oil. Then I place them in a colander and leave them for the rest of the night to strain. The next day I prep the rest of the ingredients and finish my moussaka! Try it out this way and you won't change it trust me

  • @Anna17315 exactly!!! although i think my mum fries the squash pieces and the potato piecies too, and then lets them strain

  • @fortal12 Yes, that's how I do it. I fry the potatos and the eggplants a day before and let them strain. I don't use squash, I've never thought of that but sounds good maybe I'll try it. The original recipe though is only with potatos, eggplants, beef mince and besamel as we call the cream. As for the grated cheese, is optional...

  • @Anna17315 i know :) i am greek too! :) the squash is my mothers idea

  • @fortal12 yes sounds good! thanks for the reply :)

  • Comment removed

  • Is it me or the mince really look likee worms............ However it's still good Nicko. Way to go for more!
