And it is safe to say that he has experimented with all movie genres. I remembering seeing this when I was like 12/13 for the naked women, but oddly enough, I ended up being fascinated with the movie because it was NOT cheapened by crude sex scenes, but eroticism (even though didn't know what that meant at the time). Just as A.I is based upon Pinnochio, Eyes Wide Shut is an adult use of the Wizard of Oz as Tom Cruise takes the yellow cab down the road to where the rainbow ends and finds that when the mask comes off, the mighty wizard is a frail and frightened man underneath. Nicole Kidman brilliantly takes off the mask she wears in the relationship and this unnerves our hero. When he sees his own mask is on her pillow, literally, he too finally opens up. The only differences in the film are the time (present day, not early 20th century) and the place (New York, not Vienna).
