Back when I was a Police Officer I remember the hell we used to give an officer for making a pot arrest.
Arrests for straight possession were seen as a waste as they took officers off the street processing junk arrests. The only time a Sergeant wouldn't give you grief was when the suspect was a gang member or pot was probable cause for something larger.
The only reason simple possession isn't legal is politicians at the federal level are afraid of looking “soft on drugs.”

The reason marijuana is illegal is because of HEMP, not its use as a substance. But you'd have a really hard time convincing people hemp is evil.
Hemp could easily replace paper, saving trees; cotton, saving money since it's easier/quicker; and, most of all PLASTIC. You can make *bio-degradable* plastic from hemp, instead of OIL. I bet most people don't even know that.

Back when I was a Police Officer I remember the hell we used to give an officer for making a pot arrest.
Arrests for straight possession were seen as a waste as they took officers off the street processing junk arrests. The only time a Sergeant wouldn't give you grief was when the suspect was a gang member or pot was probable cause for something larger.
The only reason simple possession isn't legal is politicians at the federal level are afraid of looking “soft on drugs.”

This would turn their numbers into positive cashflow instead of a deficit, and our communities would be safer places to live.

The reason marijuana is illegal is because of HEMP, not its use as a substance. But you'd have a really hard time convincing people hemp is evil.
Hemp could easily replace paper, saving trees; cotton, saving money since it's easier/quicker; and, most of all PLASTIC. You can make *bio-degradable* plastic from hemp, instead of OIL. I bet most people don't even know that.

@raccomando1992 To add to what you said, often judges lay down ultimatums to cannabis offenders. They say, "either you agree to enter rehab or you'll serve a hefty prison sentence." That's how the dept. of justice gets their, "marijuana addicts," figures.

@freakozola21 Kids can buy aspirin, and aspirin can kill you if take about 12 of them. So it's not even all tobacco. It's also all the "harmless" drugs that kill people too. Not to mention kids drink a whole bottle of cough syrup or take 16 coricidon to get high and only some stores keep that behind the counter. I know I was a kid. Marijuana got me off of the pills my "friends" passing around. I have been sick once since I started smoking pot every day. In the last 6 years mind you.

caffiene kills about 2000 people anually. Weed kills NONE! COFFEE IS MORE LETHAL THAN MARIJUANA! The only way it can kill you is if you smoke about 100 joints in a small room and suffocate yourself, or somehow smoke like 700 spliffs in an hour, which is impossible.
