Heres a lil friendly competition for you john deere fans, i was at the Portage County Randolph Fair the other day. A class of tractor (i dont remmember if it was super stock or pro stock) but anyway there was 14 tractors in the class, all but 3 of them were john deere. Guess what won. A RED MASSEY FERGUSON! thats right a red tractor not a green deere but a good ol red ferguson beat the odds. What does that tell ya. He He figured this would stur up some heat. Have fun everyone.

I don't get the way the tractor pull is set up as a competition, I know the load they pull gradually gets harder to pull as they progress but it seems to me that having some device mesuring the pulling power in ft/lbs would help make it more interesting.

There is such a device. It's called a dyno. The weighted sled is more of a 'true test' of a well put together machine and how much 'work' it is capable of. A dyno quite simply measures the amount of torque an engine is capable of putting out, either at the wheels or the flywheel depending on the setup of the machine. A sled pulling competition measures this plus the drivers skill and the ability of the builder/operator to maximize traction. Dumb rednecks? I don't think so...

@bgreek I agree. Im not a tractor pull fan but its a hard test for the driveline either way. Load is what usually kills things and that had plenty.

I've seen High tech Redneck pull at several tractor pulls and have yet to see it NOT burst into flames. Always the same... White smoke by 150', flames by 250' and that's it.
