Long story short..

Heath didn't sleep for a month, he lived in a hotel room, reading Batman comics to help him create the character of Joker. After a very difficult couple of moths of shooting, and his separation of his wife and daughter, he began taking meds to help him sleep and function.

The masseuse found him naked near the bed, it's obvious that he had an appointment, and took pills to help him sleep and relax.

One possibility could also be that Heath had some of the drugs left over from past prescriptions and unwittingly mixed them without knowing just how lethal the combination of some of the drugs are.

I have anxiety and I had some Celexa left over when I moved. I thought I lost the stuff and I went to a med clinic and was prescribed Zoloft. There exist physiological and biological imbalances that make people more susceptible to mental illness, and, while it is not the sole treatment route, medications can make therapy more effective.

Also, if you want to look at it this way, salt or water can kill you if you consume too much of either.

Yes, he WAS an addict, but he was stopping. He was only addicted to cocaine, and thats what led to the insomnia.. his sleep disorder. And I can tell you this right now, it was an ACCIDENT! He didn't take too many, he mixed the wrong pills! He didn't think it would harm him, but it did! And he also had pneumonia, so he was also VERY sick. He mixed pills that shouldn't have been mixed... And his doctors did prescribe them. They are prescription medication, not over the counter.
