  • I last posted re this song 3 years ago and nothing changes. It's as fantastic as ever, brilliant tight playing all round, unbelievable guitar and drums, the whole droning thing...when I'm in a dark mood this blasts me right out of it, make me feel good to be alive!

    Bowie at his beeeeeest!!!!

  • like this if fuck skrillex

  • aaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnndddddddddddd back to skrillex

  • god, i cant believe i know about this song because of Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites!<3

  • Did you know The name of Skrillex's song Scary monsters nice sprites was based on the name of this song?

  • thats some crazy ace getar , dissadent rapture

  • david bowie is definitely a bi sexual he admitted it

  • @royalnaz1 He says, in later interviews, that he regrets saying it and that he's really not because in the 70's, being bisexual was just a trendy thing to be.

  • I love david bowie, but theres nothing wrong with skrillex...

  • @TheDjDissolve nice

  • 過渡期のデヴィッド・ボウイだが、過去の変容を脱ぎ捨てた赤裸々感覚アルバム”スケアリー・モンスターズ"~ロバート・フリップの猛烈客演ギター、ずばりやはり名盤

  • she wails Jimmy's guitar sounds jealousy scream...classic

  • Yeah but this song came out in 1980.. a grungey/pop sound before its time

  • this song is not better than a lot of nirvana songs. i am a fan of this song so dont get me wrong

  • My cousin told me she hates David Bowie. I asked her whats her favourite song, she said "Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites" by Skrillex. Where do you think he got the name of the song from, you stupid bitch?

  • @shanebrennan0123 hahaha EPIC WIN!

  • One for Halloween

  • "Well, I love the little girl and I'll love her 'til the day she dies".

  • The last great Bowie album (although Tin Machine was pretty good).

  • 8 scary monsters thumbed this down.

  • @ TheDensley7

Sorry , it´s the third title on the same named Album, and to Robert Fripp, in these times he was one of them who inspired others, like Eddy van Halen with new kinds of using Effekts ,like the loop.(Time-interruptet replay)

  • @matkas1000 I know, the albu, features some of his best solos.

  • People say that Bowie inspired Lady Gaga, and he probably did. But one thing that Bowie did, that Gaga hasn't done, he hit all over the genre spectrum. He did punk rock, folk, folk rock, shock rock, pop rock, glam rock, and others.

  • @takeitoutify Bowie inspired a lot of artists... check out Bowie and Reznor on Youtube

  • @takeitoutify Hahaha... Theres one thing Gaga didn't do and still isn't doing, and thats making good music. Gaga is just fake souless pop shit. La Roux is the future of pop music

  • @takeitoutify Amen

  • @takeitoutify Can't forget Plastic Soul.

  • @nintendofreak95 Exactly my point. Gaga is good, don't get me wrong, and she was inspired by Bowie. But she'll never do what Bowie did.

  • @takeitoutify I'm not a fan of Gaga, but I agree that no one can nearly capture what Bowie has done over the years.

  • @nintendofreak95 I'm not a big fan of Gaga either. I was just using her to prove my point due to the fact that she HAS mentioned Bowie as being her biggest influence.

  • he was famous before i was born, but this shit is my jam....

this song reminds me of nirvana for some reason.

  • @WHUDDUPBITCH Nirvana were influenced by Bowie, so not too surprising. But even though I like Nirvana, I think this song is better than anything I have heard by them.

  • I sold all my vinyl albums so yeah, i came here to hear this old song that rules! David bowie is one of a kind. Check out Diamond Dogs.

  • Fripp's solo is mind-blowing.

  • Favorite Bowie album

  • Wasn't there a music video for this song?

  • this song should have been on outside as well, I think. it fits into that album so well. Good thing at least that Bowie did this song during an outside tour with Trent Reznor. So, I believe that made up for not putting this on the outside album! :) It was a great live performance. You guys should search it up if you get the chance.

  • ロバートフィリップ=ギター

  • @JorkellDIY

Why don't you just go kill yourself as well you miserable fuck? It's just music. I like both tunes.

  • @JorkellDIY I'm not sure which is more offensive. The narrow musical tastes in this comment (there's a melody *right there* in the other track) or the homophobia.

  • @kafkonia Fuck no, that track has no melody whatsoever. Second, you're a faggot if you think using gay the way i did is homophobic. A real fucking faggot, no matter your sexuality.

  • @JorkellDIY I listen to Dubstep and this ._.

  • @JorkellDIY Mate, I'm a Bowie fan as you and I don't get the kicks from dubstep, but "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" does have a quite clear riff - or melody, as you prefer to say.

  • @JorkellDIY Ok first off, you're on a page for a DAVID BOWIE video. DAVID BOWIE! You're defending his music while using the word "gay" as a negative.

Do you have any idea what kind of hypocrite you just made yourself out to be? David Bowie is the coolest gay man alive, back in the day, you weren't hip unless you were sucking dick. You can thank Mr. Bowie for that.

  • @MrKaddus David Bowie's not gay.

  • @satanichamsters Haha, wow, some fan you are. David Bowie is admittedly bisexual. Anyone that's followed Bowie since the 60s should know that.

  • @MrKaddus Well, yeah but saying he's gay is about as wrong as saying he's straight. Otherwise, good point about JorkellDIY's comment :)

  • @MrKaddus There's a difference between "gay" and "bisexual". Anyway, I agree with rashikirilova. You made a valid point about JorkerllDIY's hypocrisy.

  • @JorkellDIY aaaand.. you can shut the fuck up... Dubstep isn't just about the melody... It can have just any sound or tune to still be dubstep.. It's not gay, its a good style of music that is new and lots of people listen to it.. so stop criticisizing and shut up.. Nothing has to have melody, just people choose to have certain melodies they want or like.. So stop leaving such stupid comments...

  • @JorkellDIY I love both Bowie and Skrillex immensely, but I agree it's more than a bit sad when modulation and remixing trump pure talent.

  • your experience excedezzze me but david is bign shit!

  • When I was a kid I'd buy a CD if it had 3 decent songs on it. It was my dream to pick and choose individual songs and leave behind the crap. Some albums are worth listening to as an experience, but that's usually the exception.

We don't "owe" artists anything, at least not according to the model that bilked us for decades. But if you like the songs you hear on YouTube, go and buy them at eMusic or iTunes. Don't steal from the artists. Especially someone as emotionally honest as Bowie.

  • This and Lodger are Bowie's best albums.

  • @McNabbulous whilst i don't agree ( i think Low and Heroes are the best ) it is good to see some love for Lodger, it's an absolute gem of a record. wish more people would give it a chance. i don't need to comment on Super Creeps as anybody who has heard it knows it is as near to pop perfection as you can get. Station to Station through to Super creeps is the greatest legacy of any musician has ever had. I actually think Let's Dance is a killer record too in a 80's pure pop sense.

  • the guitar playing on this song is magnificent!

  • this one is new wave post punk love the drum beat drums thrashing part of post punk, awesome

  • groundbreaking

  • thats just bowie doing what he does best! breaking boundaries.

  • the song name reminds me off minecraft

  • I'm a massive fan of David! i went to see him in 2004, fantastic performer! like this if he's your favourite music artist! :)

  • Scary Monsters was Bowie's last great experimental album before he got caught up in the MTV era. Awesome musicians, great songwriting and avant garde style!

  • @fluffhead1000 I somewhat agree, but 1. Outside was great and pretty experimental too.

  • David,

Get your butt back in the studio and make another album. For that fact get your butt out to L.A. for a show.

  • @DanaVanHeerden rather I hope he comes to canada <3 I'd love to see him preform..

  • David Bowie, if you can hear this, I love u and your work! You are like the MJ of rock!

  • @rangeless He is royalty! Closest comparrison is his queen.

  • Nononono...ya'll got it wrong..David IS the monster xDD (good way)

  • I remember getting this on poly vinyl from the library c. 81-2. I'm glad I was growing up before prison yard music hit the scene.

  • surely, manson riped it out lol

  • The album cover is enough to scare me. I never want to see David Bowie wear lipstick.

  • op dit liedje moet ik dansen op school:| egt vet eng!!

  • Hey its that singer from Tin Machine .

  • Bowie rocks!!!! Know what I mean?

  • Reminds me of killing argies.

  • @dashripcock sad memories man

  • 1:00 lol

  • the time changes! break my expectations, and oddly I like it.

  • Absolutely brilliant. The last of the English music mogols (mongrels). Now I'm stupid in the street and I can't socialise. What next?

  • balls 'o' titanium

  • Long-time fan, but it always seemed to me that this song lacked enough Bass.

  • ch ch ch ch change!!!!

  • This is an example of how New Wave could definitely rock if you have the proper setup of musicians

  • great song. bowie is one of the best to do it

  • fabulously fine Fripp

  • @hammerhead899 wrong dude! You mean Belew, Adrian Belew.

  • @cementitiousman sorry I am correct. check the album . Belew is not listed

  • @hammerhead899 Guter du bist.

  • @cementitiousman How can you confuse Belew and Fripp?

  • Comment removed

  • @craigcat I know it's Fripp you doughnut.

  • @TheDensley7 The best insult ever.

  • fabulously fine fripp

  • Mr. Bowie would never have been stuck for a Hallowe'en costume or make up ideas! love this song<3

  • This song is so f#$%en timeless. Far ahead of it's time back-in-the-day!!!

  • Gaaaah I forgot how much I like Bowie I need to buy this for Halloween! Perfect!

  • bowie was makeing 80s music before there was 80s music.

  • The Fripp's solo is unique and irreplaceable: nobody has till now I see...

  • Thanks! Happy halloween 2 everyone

  • Sticky sweet suckers in the halloween air!

  • Happy Halloween you super creeps out there !!

  • 1980 taleacre caravan park,wales,happy days

  • If you really liked David's music you wouldn't be delving in the individual songs.

  • @loofascraper I agree, but I don't think Youtube is the right place to say that. People here, in my opinion, are mostly fans who want to say what they like (or don't like) about him or the song. What's really a pity, is that we now are able to get individual songs at places like iTunes and Amazon, that's what is not fair to Bowie and his albums.

  • @Puzzle96 I wonder when this song was released.

  • @Cazkumali 1980, I believe

  • @Puzzle96 This song was off Gran Turismo 1 I think

  • @Puzzle96 hey

  • @Puzzle96 Hi m8 I can give you any date of any Bowie release if you like!

  • @Cazkumali yep, 1980. His last good album IMHO.

  • @ReadSchopenhauer i think this was his best, hands down. but he had some nice albums after like Lets Dance, Outside, Heathen too

  • @hellchild65

Most def, Lets dance is one of his best in my opinion and so far slow born is his best most recent songs

  • @Puzzle96 Even though I have gotten a few songs off of some albums, I have bought 7 (so far!) of Bowie' albums. They tell stories when played together back to back. I like that.

  • @Puzzle96 I think it's a great place to try out music: i'm old, for decades i could either buy an expensive rail ticket to a city and buy an expensive album and hope i didn't regret it, or miss hearing it at all. I was lucky enough to listen to albums, so i have the patience to enjoy them. But listening at home several JUkZJcwsAAABfcUJad2R5bzhxWXMLAAAAODNvTWNGTzhXNElzCwAAAFA3SUFGcUVJSnZzcwsAAABjd3Y2WHdsekF1WXMLAAAAOXZPWXA5b3ZKTVFzCwAAAGJPT2hmUzFoWlZvcwsAAAA5VFd

  • @Puzzle96 Wrong mate. This is a fantastic resource for us Bowie nuts and I promise you, I am a real space cadet. All we need is a glimpse of the man. Let's face it, he is too ill to appear in public at present and will probably die soon.

You also get netwoked into other sites and stuff and get the opportunity to either praise or slag those other space cadets. It can be an extremely funny experience. Check Ziggy Starlet.

  • @Puzzle96 You mean like singles which have been around for about over 50 years?

  • @Powderwombat I think his point (and I apologize if I am wrong), is that Bowie's albums are more about the whole album, than it's singles. Not necessarily concept albums (although maybe some of them are), but they are more telling, when enjoyed (or to some, endured, LOL), when experienced as a whole. I think the saying I am trying to think of (in my cold-clouded brain right now), is "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts".

  • @screwyootube1 He made it seem like singles are suddenly new when that is not the case at all.

  • @loofascraper I disgree to you. Though people are able to buy songs via iTunes or something else, youtube is a media-form to get to know about stuff, that they woudn't buy, if they didn't come to know it (sorry for the clumsy english, I'm german and I'm not able to express myself in a better way in english, but I like David Bowie)

  • I agree, we should all listen to these concept albums from beginning to end. Whether we like the individual tracks or not. In quiet reverence, gently rocking our heads up and down. And only allowing ourselves to be reminded how "hip" we are when the disc is flipped.

  • @loofascraper

I agree there bro. I dislike how people listen to music without the context the album as a whole brings, at least in initial listenings. It's annoying when people say they like Pink Floyd for example, and say because they like "Money" and "Another Brick in The Wall". Bowie is no different; each album is a music statement, with each song a sentence.

  • @loofascraper Good point, but to be fair this was a single.

  • the truth is bowie never sets out to make a great album. he puts out music fast he just focus on making one or two masterpiece songs on all of his albums.

alladin sane is a great song nothing else on that album comes close to that song

  • @royalnash It is true that he works very fast, but that "he just focuses on making one or two masterpiece songs" is nonsense. Of course, he tries to make every song as good as possible and most of his albums contain many masterpieces.

On Aladdin Sane, I'd say that Drive in Saturday, Lady Grinning Soul, and Time are of similar quality as the title track.

  • arcade fire

neighborhood part 4 is a bad ass song off the album funeral

  • the man is an amazing musician his music is eclectic and he changes his music with whatever the popular sound is during that particular time.

this song goes hard i just discovered its greatness when i listened to my david bowie 3 disc platinum collection cd's.

  • david bowie names all of his albums after the best song on every album

    scary monsters

    alladin sane

the man who sold the world

    ziggy stardust

  • @royalnash But lady stardust is the best song off of ziggy.

  • @royalnash Don't think that is true in general. Hunky Dory: no such song on the album Ziggy Stardust: best song Lady Stardust Diamond Dogs: Best song Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing Low: no such song on the album Lodger: no such song on the album Scary Monsters: several songs as strong as the title song Tonight: Best song on the album Loving the Alien Never Let Me Down: best song Time Will Crawl Black Tie White Noise: several songs of equal strength Outside: several better songs...
  • @royalnash Earthling: one of the weakest tracks on the album (great consensus among fans).

Hours: No such song on the album.

Reality: one of the weakest tracks on the album

  • the song title also appears in a rob zombie song later on :) scart monsters and super creeps the more you care the less you sleep

  • Comment removed

  • Was there never an official promo vid for this song? I can't find one for Up The Hill Backwards either and they were both great singles.

  • Alas, it all ended with this album; but after ten or so 'meisterwerken' Bowie firmly established his legacy.

  • Only album of his I ever liked

Otherwise he was an anemic Alice Cooper wannabee...

  • @ysbaddaden2003 how do you mean that hunk dory was amazing and so was aladdin sane, and diamond dogs. I would say that almost everyone copies him today look at GaGa, or manson. Now bowie couldve been called histronic.

  • @ysbaddaden2003 lol he was around the same time as alice cooper moron, he even was recognized before alice cooper

  • great song. where's the music video that Bowie shot in 1980?

  • 70'S and 80'S had the best music :)

    David Bowie <3

  • LOVE THIS SONG! a beat with lyrics, voice as spoken CLASS!!!

  • fucking tip top

  • Classic Bowie, one of the best guitar solo's by Robert Fripp, one of my all time favorites

  • THE BEST! Love this track to death. Wish this was also a single from the album.

  • One of the best songwriters ever. Top 3, in my book.

  • Why wasn't I alive in the 80's?! :'(

David Bowie's music is the greatest ever! :D <3

  • I gotta' have more cowbell, baby...

  • Bowie's best album, in my opinion. Its mix of rock, pop and experimental stuff is superb.

  • Bowie cuts like a knife

  • "David Bowie" enters the eighties in style with this title-track and "Fashion" :-)

  • Great song, but the bass line is weak and inadequate.

  • Where u born after 1985

  • The 80's pop calling card

  • This is a Daniel Johnston song! Everybody copies Daniel Johnston

  • this takes me back to my childhood, I am 29 yrs old and grew up listening to his music while my dad was a mechanic for a trucking company. There was a secretary that was deeply into him, she use to watch me while my dad was working.

  • love it !!

  • lady gaga copied him

  • I know what a bitch/bastard. He/she So get their own style instead of copying people.

  • @MrLukestardust Nobody is original.

  • Cheeky song!!.. cheeky as fuk!!

  • Is this the song that launched a thousand Marilyn Mansons?

  • @gorillabelly1 hahaha, this or maybe "john, i'm only dancing"
