The terrible places were state hospitals.This is what Whoopie Goldberg's character is referring to in the bathtub scene: Sussana: "This place is a fucking fascist torture chamber." Whoopie: "No, I've worked in state hospitals, this place is a five star hotel." And she was right. Places like McLean exist to protect people from killing themselves and provide crisis care.

I think the main reason this song freaks me out is b/c it plays while Brittany Murphy is hanging in her bathroom and IRL she died in her bathroom :( Love the song/movie, but the IRL ish is freaky...like that one movie she did where she was a writer (Deadline or something like that) and she died in the tub too..and that was one of her last movies before her death :/ you can tell b/c she's super skinny in that one. R.I.P. Brittany Murphy!
