  • i totally thought that would look like shit but it actually looks pretty sweet man

  • can you please do this on a TSHIRT.

  • brilliance!

  • The Soda Ash pre-soak raises the pH level of the garment or fabric to approximately 10.5. Raising the pH level of the solution that the fabric or garment is soaked in raises the level of negative hydrogen ions in the dyeing environment. The chemical bonding process uses these ions in the reaction. Pre-soaking in Soda Ash fixer solution is what allows the fiber reactive dyes to work at room temperature.

  • tried this and it came out great thank you very much for the video

  • Can you do a guitar tye dye design and post the video please??!! I REALLY want to learn that one!

  • wow this is really neat!!! thanks for sharing!

  • @tigolebitty what's the purpose of soaking in soda ash? i don't do this step, so what will the difference be in the outcome?

  • Would it work if I were to cut the sleeves off of a t-shirt and do it from there?

  • vinigar makes the colors stick . Thats why most people use it when they color easter eggs :]

  • How do you do this on a T-shirt? i tried this technique but the fabric gets too thick. Please help

  • @oneshrivledweenie I did it too with a tshirt and it ended up too thick too. what i learned to do is only use the front side of the tshirt for the mandala (so you only have one layer of fabric). It is quite confusing to tie though. Then dye another pattern to the back of the shirt.

  • i usually wipe myself of with baking soda and lime

  • Very cool. Thank you!

  • mine looks more like a circle with eight lumps, but i'll keep trying

  • great video, thank you!

  • it wont let me leave a link of my pix where can i e-mail them to you so you can tell me what i did wrong!

  • can you do a shirt and make a video please.

  • hey can you tell me why every time i do this my star is on the outside edge?

  • @JaneBritany I would guess that the "center" point you are using is the outside of the fabric. Try the fold on a tshirt and see if that helps you visualize the "center" any better. Hope that helps.

  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SHOW HOW TO DO A LOTUS!!!!

  • great, do a shirt.

  • that is super cool!

  • What do you have to do with the shirt before you tie dye it? thanks ^^

  • ur super chill lol

  • Can you show how to do the Lotus blossom fold? Thanks!! Your videos are wonderful!!!

  • If you have any ideas for other videos, please let me know. I am always looking for inspiration!

  • @hobblephosk hey you said you were taking requests! i think you should do a cosmic ray tie dye

  • @hobblephosk you seem to be using one layer of clothe in this video...will it work right for 2 layers as well? like...a shirt?

  • @aishumaj1 Yes and no... This was a fairly thin bandana, you could do two or three or more layers with thin fabric. I wouldn't even try this fold on thick fabric such as sweatshirt material. So it depends on your fabric. and my best advice, as with an tie dyeing, is to experiment and try it out :)

  • @hobblephosk cud u do this with one colour

  • I agree with the below post, your techniques are simple and awesome....more videos please!!!!

  • I want more videos!!!

  • lol I gotta be honest I was laughing the whole time you were talking about the fire but that really looks like fire. thanks for the tutorial!! ^_^

  • Mr Hobble, any tips when doing mandala on t-shirts.. It seems to be harder to do because a shirt is so much thicker

  • Comment removed

  • way to go on the fire look. i was thinking it was going to be super sloppy cuz you just tossed those colors right on there but it wasn't. thanks for the video man.

  • I use Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes

  • what kind of dyes?

  • wow thanks! my hippie mother and i did this today and it turned out fantastic, yay tie dyes!

  • After watching this video, I wasn't exactly worried about..... anything! So far, this is the best technique I've been able to find on youtube. Thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing the technique-- it's really great!

btw: after your dye has cured, simply soak in cold water to release all traces of soda ash. You then wash the fabric in warm water with Synthropol (or your regular laundry detergent). Vinegar is used for acid dyes, as a dye assist to add more oxygen sites on the fibers.

  • Thank u so very much

  • will this work with a cotton shirt too?

  • @shiboodles yes, depending on the thickness of the shirt. I don't think that it would work too well with a sweatshirt.

  • thanks a lot man, this is awesome and you're hilarious!

  • Awesome! Thank you so much!

  • very similar to a lotus blossom
