Tyson himself said that even though he had so much success in his early career, if he fought Ali he would lose. End of discussion.... TYSON said he would lose against ALI!
does anybody realise this was his frist fight after Cus's death, literally 1 week after, and having fought 2 days BEFORE his death while he's on his death bed in hospital?! If Richardson had any sense he'd have stayed at home!
@Gyro911 True, the level of the competition is flimsy. But he was never as technically precise later in his career as he was in the mid 80's. Which is unsurprising considering he took his training less seriously as time progressed and coasted on his natural ability.
@LemonNation Its easy to look precise against fighters that suck. Fact is Tyson never beat holyfield or Lewis. Also looked bad in his Title wins before going to Prison with the exception of Berbick
@Gyro911 That is not what I meant. Yes, we all know hitting a can is easy for a high level fighter. But even in his later fights against cans you can see his technique begin to slip. I honestly think around his 15th fight his technique had peaked and stagnated and then declined from there. His physical ability held out for quite some time more than that, as I said.
Anyone who thinks Tyson would beat Ali needs to watch a prime Tyson vs James Tillis. Tillis basically had a similar fighting style to Ali, except he was 1/4 the boxer Ali was. Ali was much faster, much better chin, much faster handspeed, excellent counter puncher, could put combos together, and a master tactician in the ring. Tyson, in his very prime in 1986, struggled badly vs a nothing HW like Tillis. Imagine what Ali would do to him. It'd be Ali vs Liston all over again.
Are people on here kidding or something? Ali was on another level completely to Tyson. Pre 67 Ali would was faster and had better footwork, along with what is still the fastest pair of hands anyone has seen at heavyweight. Only Pacquiao today at Welterweight gets close in terms of handspeed. On top of this you can't buy a chin in this sport if you don't have one, and Ali had one of the toughest chins the sport has seen. Just ask Big George Foreman, who fwiw was a bigger hitter than Tyson.
@WJJ1968 u a fucking fool u dont know shit about boxing Tyson was just OK... period...lost to Buster Douglass when Mike was in his prime!!!! And he could'nt beat Holyfield to save his life...would'nt have beaten a Prime Lennox Lewis...U have to beat TOP NOTCH boxers to be concidered dominant Heavyweight..he would have lost to Ali,Foreman,Frazier,Ron Lyle,Shavers,A YOUNG IN HIS prime Holmes just to name a few.He fought those who was scared of him PERIOD!
@WJJ1968 I totally agree with you - Tyson in his prime could not be touched. Lennox Lewis was very lucky he didn't face him in his prime (as was Douglas and Hollyfield).
The thing that amazes me about Tyson is that he has so many elements of other great fighters. Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Patterson, Liston. It's like someone combined all of the best qualities of the great fighters into one person.
wat. frazier, tyson, and foreman are three distinctly different types of power punchers. ali is about as far from tyson as you can get. liston was far more measured and known for his jab.
@Robstailey I mean he was a puncher like Foreman, handspeed like Ali and imposed himself on people like Frazier and intimidated people like Liston, or something, it was a long time ago when I wrote that.
@risingphoenix737 thanks man well end day tyson was feared majorly lets face it any new fighter or old would hate get in the ring with him because he did end alot of fighters careers in boxing.
@MrEddyb68 ok thats your view friend but 8 people also agree with me,i do boxing myself also since you asked for 2 years have been fighting,so i have got little ring experiance,i need my ass whipped over alot things but i dont think this is one of them,i agree ali was good ofcourse fighting in a time in a america black people had very little and ali came along showed every one what its like to stand up for yourself,

Does anyone notice that he doesnt even hit Eddie in the face to knock him out? Blow up the screen+replay it. Tyson hits him in the shoulder. A knockout by getting hit in the shoulder?? I think Eddie was a fairy to tell you the truth. A lot of the initial fighters tyson faught were not good fighters. But hats not to say that tyson wasnt a great fighter.

Mike Tyson wasn´t a good boxer when we all are true. He has no technique and always go forward and box.We have seen what Lennox Louis has done with him.Against techniqueel good boxers he has no chance. And look to his bobfight enemies. They all were weak boxers. I don´t like him because his boxstyle and so on. Muhammed Ali 4ever
lOl "techniqueel" that's a new one watch tyson vs ratiff he controls the ring. Tyson had amazing footwork (young years! later on he became very standstill) side steps, head movement, but all he needs is 1 big punch to end it, but he took advantage of his speed, ect even tho he had Tremendous power.
This fight had to have sucked for Tyson. This fight took place on 11-13-85 when his mentor, Cus D'Amato had died about a week earlier on the 4th.

Tyson in his prime is the greatest boxer that ever lived.
Iron Mike fighting at 18-19 years old versus ANY fighter, from any era, from any time in their career; he would always win.

the key to tyson's strategy is getting his opponent to move backwards. he lunges forward when they're in the motion of falling to their back foot.

The most dominant heavyweight ever. People under 40 only saw a shadow of Tyson. In his prime he couldn't be matched.
