  • Its not because of his feet its because the football touched the ground, aka had no possesion of the football

  • You think Lions fans would be use to losing by now. I mean this is the team that destroyed Barry Sanders love of the game. You went 0-16, you are the worst ever. Get used to it already.

  • @yfna1 umm dude that is ignorence. have you seen any games from this year. we ended with a four game win streak. dude if you judge a team do it by present years.

  • THE BEARS ARE THE WORST TEAM IN NFC NORTH GO LIONS!! I PICKED PACKERS TO WIN THE NFC CHANPIONSHIP AND IT WAS LIKE BEING STAB IN THE HEART, BUT ANY TEAM IS BETTER THEN THE MOTHER FUCKING BEARS!

  • when you watch it in slowmotion it looks like he for sure caught it, but in real time it kind of looks like he dropped. but still a BS call GO LIONS!

  • With that being said. Go Lions!!! Fuck the bears!!! And this is coming from a Packers fan. Im looking forward to great competition with the Lions next year.

  • Bottom line is he got ahead of himself and they made an example of him. When you fall on the ground you keep possession untill you stand up. Thats what the rule was made for, it was made to prevent any type of controversy. He didnt follow the rule, there for there is controversy. Pull your head out of your ass and open your eyes. This stuff is common sense.

  • @Tcoz86

You know, when I saw it happen live I thought, wait he dropped it, then I saw the replay and thought, "wait, maybe he didn't", then it was "did he lose control of it since he has one hand on it, or did he just toss it a side". So I wasn't sure, but since there is a rule out there, it takes away from was it this or that. Simply said, you hold on to the ball, you get the TD. Either way, its good to see someone on here has a brain and understands the rule.

  • dude bull shit worst call ever I mean really his hand whent out of bounds before the ball came down so lions season was 7-9 fixed game fck you bears lucky bitches

  • @deat3456w

Thats considering the bears don't score with the remaining time left. Which would have been suprising the way the bears where all over the lions. Sometimes you get wins you don't deserve. That wasn't the situation here.

  • @Kartkid024 dude only 24 seconds left. please the was the game winner. so what? the bears made a lot of mistakes even tho they were on us. does it matter a win is a win,but calls like these is why footballs rules are retarded

  • @deat3456w

Yeah, ever heard of Devin Hester. Of course he has never returned a kick off for a lot of yards, or atleast got them close enough for a Field goal. Yes, the way that game was being played, I easily think their could have been a comeback. In the end yes the Bears did make mistakes, however they out played detroit by enough, that it only took one detroit Mistake to lose the game. And Johnson made the biggest. It wasn't the ref, it wasn't the rule, it was Johnson's fault.

  • @Kartkid024

But like you said, a win is a win. However the rule is not a retarded one, it was created to eliminate any doubt of whether the ball was dropped or released by choice. Many including myself, at first sight in full motion said it looked like he dropped the ball. And after the replay I'm about 80 percent sure he released it by choice, however I'm not 100 percent. the fact he has 1 hand on it makes the 20 percent doubt. He knew the rule, so he should follow it.

  • @Kartkid024 dude do you expect the lions to come in looking like the patriots. they just came off a 2-14 season. if johnson dropped it by choice I mean he was excited because that could have been the game winner. I mean who wouldn't be that just came off a 2-14 season and in the first game even tho it was not a "deserving win" come up with a game winning touchdown to end a losing streak and everyone on the team would be joyfull and cheering for you. if that was a peyton manning to wayne,TD.

  • @deat3456w

Yeah sure it could have been a game winner. But we see plays like this all the time. It could have been but it turned out it wasn't. And Johnson's the only one to blame (well, as for that play anyway). I'm sure starting the season with a win would have been great, but they lost a close one fair and square, it hurt I'm sure. Atleast they finished strong anyway. It didn't make a difference come playoffs anyway, if I'm correct the teams would have been seeded the same anyway.

  • @Kartkid024 well if they one that game, they would have a lof of confidence for them that can takeover into other games. which could have gave us enough wins to go to the playoffs. also johnson takes the blame here but you have to think if that was you and made that, but another bad thing that happen was because we lost Matt stafford that was a big bummer. he could have moved us down the feild for the TD. but that is in the past and ty for respecting my Opinion.

  • @deat3456w

On an interesting note, Considering how much meaning this game could have had (starting the season 1-0 would have been a huge start for the lions as you say), you would think that catch would have meant so much to him and he would have just hugged that ball and never let go. Its just strange he threw it away like he did.

  • How long does he have to hold it. Well through the process, meaning he should be able to get up with the ball. Whats worse is this rule was discussed before the game to him. His fault 100 percent. BTW this didn't lose the lions the game, they had what 2 more attempts at it, and even if he does hold the ball, bears offense was all over detroit, I see them getting a good return and a couple big plays and either a TD or a game winning Field goal. Not to mention lions got outplayed this game.

  • have to control the ball through the landing dickheads.

  • i didnt see the ending but when you said check in your mail mr ref that really what happend in the game the bears know that coulded beat us thier so you had to squew us

  • we won that game we should be 7-10

  • Comment removed

  • dumbest shit of course happens to the lions :/

  • thumbs down because u said go bears u should of said go lions then u get a thumbs up

  • that stupid new rules is gonna ruin games...catch it and land on ur feet, touched prior to it and land on ur but with it in a hand, in control..and still no touchdown...oh fuck this shit!!

  • lions beat the bears twice this season.

Detroit is legit after Stafford gets healthy and they get another solid pick for their defense.

  • This ruined my season in week #1 - haven't watched a game since, because it is all RIGGED. Do you all understand yet? The Lions will roar again, but thanks to this crap, not this year....

  • referee says incomplete pass, booth review says incomplete pass. move on. lions 2-10, bears 9-3. enough said.

  • Rhysinater - thats your opinion. this bad call ain't the only thing the N.F.L has gottin wrong. makes you wonder if it ain't all fixed. too much money involved not to be.

  • the N.E.L- National Entertainment League. Has instant replay to get it right. Then makes rules or terms to get the wrong ones through. Its not a true sport. Like "Holding" its happens every play. Some teams get caught alot more than others.

Even those calling the game. will tell you which "Holding" is allowed.

There should be a claimer telling us - "these are actors not professional athelets

    .

  • @bookstrbetty you're an idiot

  • Looks like a dropped pass to me.

  • Comment removed

  • @endangeredpeace

Calvin Johnson is considered going to the ground and has to maintain possesion after he touches the ground until he stops moving. He spiked the ball while he was still moving and that makes the pass incomplete. And it doesn't matter what body part hits because it is a process. This was an incomplete pass.

  • fuck the bears.

the lions should have won this game! the nfl makes really stupid rules

  • Ref's need to send us 2 checks back for stealing touchdowns vs the Seahawks and Redskins. Kick return for TD vs seahawks called back for block in the back (later admitted there was no block in the back) and the Cutler TD that broke the plane but refs ruled it a fumble. Screw the Lions cuz we got screwed too... twice now.

  • @JakeTSnake7 Are you going on every video posting this? I don't know what you are talking about because I don't care about the Bears. I am sorry for the Bears for those calls, but why take it out on the Lions? I think that you guys should take your anger out on the Seahawks and Redskins. Lions never did anything wrong in that play and everyone that knows something about football knows it is a catch.

  • You must maintain control of the ball on a pass only when going to the ground if he was on his feet it would have been a touchdown.

  • it wasnt a missed call by the refs, it was proper based on an absolutely HORRIBLE rule

  • So your tellin me that when your 2 knees down and a elbow are down that isnt a touchdown?

  • He let go of the ball because he was getting up.

  • @detroitli0n

Well, he slamed it down as he was going to the ground. He screwed himself, he knew the rule, the rules has been called before, and he screwed himself, simply said, you get up and you hold the ball, I'm glad to see even the Detroit coach was smart enough to come out and say the blame goes on Johnson.

  • fuck the bears

  • should of been but you know what the rules in the nfl are so fucked up

  • he got 2 feet and a knee....

he clearly was controlling the ball with that one hand which shows possession

ya know its just rediculious how bad the bears cheat

  • Refs got it right, just like the last couple times I have seen this called. He got knocked to the ground in the act of catching and didn't stand up on both feet with the ball secure. Nothing new, just following the current rules. If the owners didn't like the rule they would of changed it last year when they started calling it.

  • @Chiefxlrg2 Save your breathe bro i've tryed to explain this to everyone, they see what they want because they are bias.

  • lol rules are reules bro but some rules just suck fucking ass..

  • @MrSkateking188 too bad they missed the ruling. He maintained possession, lost control after he was already down, by INTENTIONALLY letting go, cuz he was down, and everyone knew it was a TD...cept the refs apparently...

  • Here's a Packers fan saying this was total bullshit.

  • fuck u calvin johnson and ur athletic ass, meet the rule book bitch EVEN JIM SCHAWRTZ AND THE MANAGER CAME OUT AND SAID IT WASN'T A CATCH

  • im a lions fan i think it was noit a catch rules are rules

  • didn't keep possession

  • I am a bers fan to the core. This was a bad call. Detroit has alot of talent this year. looking forward to seeing them play.

  • LOL! He has to hold on to the ball the whole time. Watch Forte's earlier TD to see how its done. Easy call = no catch.

  • @bodhi3323 THANK YOU LOL....FORTE COULDA HE EASILY LET IT GO AND SAY IT WAS A TD WHEN IT WASNT BUT HE DIDNT HE SHOWED THE REFS HE HAS IT

  • it shouldnt been a touchdown due to both feet were in the endzone and he was forced by other team to get down even with a slight touch he was still forced down so no matter what the ref is blind and the NFL need to get sum ref that has good eyes.

  • @xlacky1 It shouldn't have been or should have been, you lost me ?

  • The fact that the ball came out after he hit the ground is irrelevant. He caught the ball and both feet came down. End of play.

  • If people in other professions made such epic mistakes, they would be fired.

Why do refs like this clown keep their jobs?

  • I'm going to piss in that ref's mother's cunt

  • "The ground can't cause a fumble, but it can cause an incompletion," he added. "Ball is dead in possession of a runner when it breaks the plane, but the receiver is not a runner. He's not a runner until he establishes possession by completing the catch." Mike Pereira, the former head of NFL referees

  • that was TD

  • wat, fumbled out the back of the endzone?!? that would mean he had possesion in the endzone, and therefore a touchdown...

  • I guess he should have fallen on his back and tucked the ball with both hands.

  • I'll further point out, the same rules apply everywhere on the field (sidelines, diving catches, etc), but it doesn't get as much attention as it does in the end zone. The comparison to a runner breaking the plane of the goal line isn't valid here. The runner has possession of the ball when he breaks the plane. Calvin Johnson did not get possession until he comes down maintaining the ball throughout the catch and since the ball came out: by rule, no catch, no TD.

  • @RyanK76 well if u watched the video he had it in his hands with two feet on the ground. Also he fell on the ground with the ball. Wat more does he have to do to get a damn touchdown.

  • @MegaGarcia5 you have to control the ball all the way through the ground. Compare to Forte's touchdown for the Bears earlier in the game... He went down and held the ball while laying on the ground. If Calvin had thrown the ball away it likely would have been called a touchdown but since he didn't "complete the process" of the catch and the ground dislodged it... it was disallowed. Not saying its a good rule, but explaining how its interpreted and enforced.

  • Its simple... Its not a catch until both feet hit the ground (or other body parts) in bounds and you maintain control of the ball throughout... all the way to the ground. If he stood up, or laid on the ground holding it, it would have been good. But, when the ball hit the ground, it came out. You can even see him reflexively grab for the ball on the TV broadcast replay. He didn't spike or throw the ball, it came lose when it hit the ground. Bad rule perhaps, but good call.

  • It's not a blown call if you know anything about professional football, but what would Lions fans know about professional football, they haven't seen it in years

  • Player must maintain control of ball if there is contact with the ground. He did not. Perhaps they should change the rules to allow the Lions to win more games, however, the rules will go both ways.

  • i'm so fuckin pissed

  • He needed to "complete the process"! Catch the ball, hold on to the ball, get up with the ball, sign it and give it to a fan...then the process would have been complete - Hahahaha

  • @bull3tproofxz it did u fuck blind

  • The reason it was not a td is because he did not control the football ALL the way to the ground...any where else on the field that would have been a catch because he put both feet on the ground. However in the endzone you need to have possesion basically until to come to a stop on the ground which did not happen because the ball hit the ground before his hand

  • @mistajop he was at a complete stop on the ground! the ball touched the ground also! the referees of the NFL are on crack!

  • @BullethappyJ complete stop?! really?! you do know that this video paused a couple times.. right? he was sliding on his back and rolling over when the ball hit the ground and popped out of his hand. Its not that hard if you set aside your bias. Most everyone agrees that the call was correct, but the rule may need to be changed. Tough way to lose a game.. no doubt. Only Dallas had a worse ending for their fans. Both calls were spot on though.

  • @RyanK76 i apologize for saying he was in a complete stop i forgot that the clip was paused, but that was a crappy call. im not bias with either team i like the rams, only because im from st louis, and i still believe that the refs were high on lsd that day because they made so many crappy calls that day in the cards vs rams game also.

  • @mistajop actually, the same rule applies anywhere on the field. The rule went into effect a year or two ago that you need to maintain possession of the ball during the entire process of the catch. Otherwise, you're spot on. May be a bad rule, but we was still coming down when the ground dislodged it. You can bet he will use both hands on the ball from now on. In the locker room post game, he said he wasn't aware of the technicalities of the rule.

  • I think the Lions deserved to win cause the Bears were horrible. In the 4th qtr, they were in the 1 yrd line and couldn't even get a TD. -_-"

Nice job going on 4th down and failing Lovie Smith...

  • da bears

    but seriously, go lions

  • Nice seats

  • it doesnt matter if both feet were down the ball came out when it hit the ground that is what the call was about.

  • @daekla do u watch football? that was clearly a TD! how is it a TD when a player goes in the end zone diving with just the football touching the line and ball gets loose it is a TD but catching it in the endzone with both feet down and his ass on the ground not??

  • @nb1ako Obviously you don't know the rules to well otherwise you would know it was not a TD

  • @daekla do u watch football? that was clearly a TD! how is it a TD when a player goes in the end zone diving with just the football touching the line and ball gets loose it is a TD but catching it in the endzone with both feet down and his ass on the ground not??worst call EVER!!!

  • @nb1ako It is because catching the ball is not the same as running with the ball. if you are running with the ball you clearly have possession, unless you're juggling it around of course. It is relatively simple to catch a ball and touch the ground, but holding onto the ball through the ENTIRE duration or your fall is another story. The rule was put in place because of people who caught the ball, touched the ground, then dropped the ball before they had finished falling.

  • @daekla yes i know that but he clearly had possession with two hands and held it with one hand slaming it on the ground with the early celebration

  • @nb1ako if he did try slamming it down, which i dont think he did, i think it came loose as he was trying to stop himself from rolling. Then it was his fault for letting goo too early. The rule and explanation of the rule are very clear when you look them up. go visit/ look up explanations of the rule, and you will see that the rule is harsh but clear in the fact that the player must maintain control of the ball until he stands up, or stops moving.

  • @daekla There are alot of problems that could arise if they tried to define the rule more, like... if the knee touches the ground the process is over, well what happens if he falls forward, his knee touches but from the force of the landing he looses grip? Can you see where they would have to write a book for every possible landing and what causes the "process" to end. its easier to just tell the players to never let go of the ball. everyone had the rule explained in preseason btw.

  • @nb1ako And again i will say you can argue that the rule is not right, but don't blame the Ref. for calling the play according to the rules of the game. While in the air he started turning to his left, as he rolled towards the left he used the ball to gain his balance, which upon hitting the ground came loose from his hands. He did not drop/ let go of the ball, rather it was jarred loose from the impact. too many people have caught the ball and dropped it in the past. this is a rule to stop that
