At this time Apple had a monopoly on this type of phone. Android phones started coming out a year later.  Apple did a good thing by furthering the state of the art with their iphone and deserved to make some money on it.

That said, I really hate Apple and their products (except my 5 year old ipod video, which was $300 but is still going, plus my car came with a connection port for it, so that was cool).

i love my iphone...it is the best mp3player money can buy (keyword MP3). plus i can surf the net, as well as keep all of my oppointments that automatically sync to my phone with all of my new playlists. as well as store all of my saved pics from my computer... and did i mention it is a phone?

i just bought an iphone. so im locked into at&t for 2 years now. i was locked in with sprint for the last 2. none of the carriers are any better than the others, so what difference does it make. at least i got a phone that i can actually use for more than voice calls. i dont plan to unlock it, so everyone is happy.

You don't need to sign up for a two year contract every time. Also any feature you can mention on an iPhone you can find on certain other phones plus hardware buttons and real applications.

real apps are on the way, though they should have been here sooner. hardware buttons arent that great, most blackberry models i tried out had such small keyboards, they were unusable. show me one phone with all the features, as easy to use, and for around the same price, ill give it a look.
