@ray123ification Well I can explain this to you but not really teach you.. Different keys sound different lol. For example D is known as being a sad note/key. F was known as being the key of the devil back in the 1700 for its harsh and often hostile nature. So if you want to convey a certain feeling or reinforce it you can play in that key.
Theres also the fact that some keys just sound better to certain people due to peoples ears being physically different.
@Andres9632 Since we split the octave into 12 equal parts, a compromise to enable modulation, I think this key business is a load of tosh.(Mind you, that may be just my ear)! I suppose if a keyboard was tunes "accurately" to Eflat, you could get away with modulating to Bflat or Aflat but D would sound horrific, the 3rds and 5ths would sound terribly dissonant. F might sound a bit "dorianish"? Thankyou, so much for your reply, and to the other chap too...I like his answer! Cheers.
@ray123ification haha well as long as you admit that playing in different keys promotes a different feel (musical taste being subejective and all that). Also just to clarify my keys response wasnt just targeted at flamenco specifically, its just knowledge ive picked up composing my own stuff and blending genres.
@Andres9632 Ah that's the 'root' of the problem.. I too compose. "Blending Genres" is an excellent way to describe your music and one I can relate with. Do you have anything on YT I could listen to. I have a few things, not professional may I add! If you get a moment maybe you might look up 'Keelers Walk'. Seahorse song isn't too bad! Cheers.
@ray123ification aside from me uploading some poor band recordings not really haha. if youd like id be more than happy to upload them to a myspace/soundcloud/ or even YT. lately ive been focusing on fusing latin scales and rhythms/tones with rock progressions. This was one of my early versions that i wrote with my last band

Why do flamenco guitarists use a capo... Is it to lower the action? Anyone...
ray123ification 6 months ago
@ray123ification to play in different keys. many flemenco chords/progressions/patterns involve the use of open strings and open chords.

@Andres9632 What I don't get is why the key matters if there is no singer...? Not being an arse, I genuinely admire this work very much.

@ray123ification
If there is no singer then the guitarist is free to choose what key he wants to play in.
