@osodelicious The name Satanism is reference to the fact that Satan is representative of a hedonistic, selfish nature as opposed to Christians who strive to be selfless and free from what the Bible tells them is sin. Now, I don't claim to be a Satanist, (yet) but in my eyes, a very big portion of what LaVey says in his book makes a lot of sense.

I have researched what satanism was and is about, and as i was reading i was agreeing with it all Until I got to the part about using children as sexual objects or exploiting them sacraficing them etc...was okay...wtf that stayement alone discredited the whole religion. i think that out of all the questions given to lavey, this was a fairly intelligent one. Rather than others constantly bringing up satanic abuse history bullcrap, this is a good question that lets us look into the mind of lavey and in turn let us see a more religiously tolerant side of him 'That religion can be used to better people'. In some cases this is true. that if one wishes to contribute to a certain faith, let him, if he feels it makes him happy and helps him better himself. Nice answer.

I had answered the God question totally different. For example by claiming that I find it absurd to believe in a God you can neither see, nor witness otherwise, just because his existence is claimed in an old book and that people call a God of massmurder and revenge, a God who doesn´t answer most prayers a God of love and compassion. But- sorry- LaVey seems to be missing strenghth here, anyway. He seems to be very insecure to me.

@davindersingharora I think what LaVey is implying is that metaphorically "god," by whatever name, exists as a representation of a source of inspiration. The archetype of Satan symbolically represents "god" as that inspiration for Satanists. Easily misinterpreted, and no doubt difficult to explain on a TV show. But, I'm quite sure he meant it metaphorically rather than literally.

@davindersingharora it really quite depends on your definition of god. an atheist is a non-theist, meaning they do not believe in gods as DIETIES. however, to believe in a God as a conceptualization of the beauty in nature, or natural patterns, collective consciousness, any of these things is another matter entirely.

i'm an atheist but i believe in what some people have vastly (and i mean vastly) over simplified and personified by calling it "god" and assigning a very human imprint to it.
