@julian1dude This is explained in the comments, as well. Picture mail and MediaNET don't work because you're not using AT&T services anymore. In order to get them fully functional again, you have to upload the proper service books for the carrier you're going to use. It requires a data cable, a program you can find online, and google searching.

We unlock network codes, unlock codes, security codes, and forgotten pass words/puk codes on cell phones. Call 714.900.3583. You need to find the IMEI# by typing *#06# on screen on cell phone you want unlocked...it will display 15 numbers, we also need to know if you have ATT, etc, and what kind of phone you have....Blackberry 8310, etc. Model number is under battery. You can also email this info to us via YouTube.
Call AT&T International Customer Service to unlock your phone 1800-335-4685. The unlock code is different with each IMEI. So the number he has will not work for your LG Shine Phone.
They ask for the last 4 digits of your SS#. If I was you I would not be worried about giving AT&T my complete SS# to verify my account information. Yes, give it to them and think nothing of it later. I really don't understand your concerns about giving your SS# to your provider. But I know with all this identity theft and cell phone spyware nothing 100% safe. That's your personal choice to give it to them or not...
You can google the number listed because it is AT& T they will not take your SS# and use it... They are your current provider right? They need to verify your information on your account..
Well, it does matter whether you have an account and want to unlock your current phone, or if you just have a phone and want to unlock it.
If you have an account, give them the account information they ask for. This may include your ssn for verification purposes. If you do not have an account, just tell them that.

I believe you have to have a valid SIM inserted first. Don't quote me on that, but if you call Roger's and get the unlock code from them, they can fill you in on the process.

I believe you can use that code, but each model might have a different system code. If you call Rogers you can have them walk you through the process, I'd recommend it.

Whenever a manufacturer makes a phone, they slap an IMEI on it. This is basically like the Electronic Serial Numbers (ESN) that Sprint and Verizon use, which means each phone is individually labelled. Customer Service simply looks up that phone and the assigned IMEI has an unlock code for it.
You can tell them you have an old AT&T phone you want to continue to use. If they say no or ask you to submit a form, hang up and try again.

I'd like to help you, but the factory reset code is generally a model/company specific code (but sometimes can be 0000, 1234, or the last four digits of the phone number). No one can really help you with that one.
You can't transfer a GSM-based phone to a CDMA-based company like Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, or Alltel. The only exception to that would be certain CDMA phones that use a SIM card for international usage (Blackberry Storm/Tour); you can use those for AT&T or T-Mobile. They can't complain about the phone you use, so long as it's compatible with the network and you're paying your bill.
I don't recommend this method under any circumstances. I've seen many friends and co-workers attempt contacting "reputable" companies for unlock codes, paying $2-10, and then receiving an email saying they could not obtain the code and offer a refund... and then ignore your request for said refund.
So no, don't "just buy an unlock code." Why would you pay money for something you can obtain for free? A simple phone call eliminates the hassle.
If someone gives it to you for free, then there you go. :P But seriously, don't just pay someone for it. I hate talking on the phone too, but this is barely even a five minute conversation.
Erm... I believe it only locks the phone for a certain amount of time, but if it says permanent lock (I honestly don't remember, sorry!) then you're pretty well screwed. Did you have a real code you were trying with?

Replied to your PM, but for everyone else: you can't. The password is there for that express reason - to lock everyone out. If you forget the password, you're shit out of luck, sadly. That's why your friend should've remembered it! Or just don't set a password, it causes all sorts of problems.
If it's asking for a PUK code, however, contact the original company (AT&T) and they can fix it if you haven't exceeded the try count.
Then you hang up and call again to get a different rep. But make sure they know you're not asking about the PUK code; if you have to, and they don't understand "unlocking the phone for use with international SIM cards," then use the terms "subsidy lock code."
The subsidy lock code is for unlocking a phone purchased through a cellular provider (AT&T, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Rogers, etc) so that you can use it with another GSM SIM card.

Dont forget; if someone says no or wants you to got through "applying" for the lock code, just hang up and call again immediately. You'll get a rep who will do it for you with ease, eventually

To avoid that, I try to make sure I tell them that I don't plan on leaving their service; I just want more versatility with my phone. To be able to switch SIM cards if one carrier isn't in service, to save on my minutes, travel, etc... It's their job, once you've calmed that particular storm, they're a breeze to talk to XD
It'll increase the value of your phone, because people using other carriers can buy it. Besides that, using the phone on another provider is pretty much the only reason. Say, for example, you want a BlackBerry Storm, but you have AT&T and not Verizon. Unlocking the Storm would allow you to use it on an otherwise incompatible (and better) network.
When you insert the new SIM, the network should automatically download the service books and the new web browser (since it won't be MEdia Net) will appear. If not... there are ways to get them on the phone.
You can do that with every phone, just do some research on the phone you want before you buy it :D

I'm not sure how your SIM worked if you simply put it into the phone of another carrier; either it was unlocked prior to your receiving it (say if someone unlocked it and it somehow went back to the company. it stays unlocked forever), ooorr... I like mobilecityonline, personally. But like I said, don't forget to research the phone before you buy it; search forums and ask questions if you need to (if no one has asked it already), so if you need to do something to unlock the multimedia services, you know in advance. For the most part though, you shouldn't have to worry with an unlocked phone!
It all depends on the kind of phone you want, whether you like a keyboard or a touch screen, if you need email services, etc... I can make recommendations based on your interests, but if you know what you like, I shouldn't need to do that for you.
Here's what I do: I look up phones on MSO, write down/copy all the models I think look interesting, and then I go to cnet and look up the reviews. They get weeded out pretty fast that way, and you learn a ton of new stuff.

Thanks man, it works. I called at&t and told them that I needed to unlock the phone because I have a sim card from Mexico, and I did not want to buy another phone. The representative was very helpful. She did not even ask me for any numbers because she looked at my account. The call did not take more than 5 minutes.
Good! I'm glad you didn't have any problems :D So you got it to work by inserting your non-AT&T SIM card and entering the Subsidy Code when it asked, right?
Erm... that one I'm not too sure on, actually. I've heard you can do it when you put in another carrier's SIM (like t-mobile), because it'll ask for the Subsidy Lock Code. Try that out, but you still have to contact AT&T Customer Support and tell them you need the code for the phone's IMEI. :P Hopefully you don't have Verizon or Sprint; you can't unlock a phone for those networks ^^
Just make sure when you call AT&T that you tell them very politely that you bought a phone, and you'd like to unlock it. Tell them you don't have a phone number for it when they ask, and that you're not currently a customer. If they say they can't, tell them you don't appreciate being lied to. :P If they're a stubborn Rep, hang up and call again; you'll get someone else lol

Regardless, Boost is iDEN, AT&T is GSM. They both have SIM cards, but that's where the similarities end.

So no, don't "just buy an unlock code." Why would you pay money for something you can obtain for free? A simple phone call eliminates the hassle.

Erm... I believe it only locks the phone for a certain amount of time, but if it says permanent lock (I honestly don't remember, sorry!) then you're pretty well screwed. Did you have a real code you were trying with?

Replied to your PM, but for everyone else: you can't. The password is there for that express reason - to lock everyone out. If you forget the password, you're shit out of luck, sadly. That's why your friend should've remembered it! Or just don't set a password, it causes all sorts of problems.
If it's asking for a PUK code, however, contact the original company (AT&T) and they can fix it if you haven't exceeded the try count.

Whichever company has branded the phone; in your case, AT&T. The company name is always labelled somewhere on the phone :P

Then you hang up and call again to get a different rep. But make sure they know you're not asking about the PUK code; if you have to, and they don't understand "unlocking the phone for use with international SIM cards," then use the terms "subsidy lock code."

The subsidy lock code is for unlocking a phone purchased through a cellular provider (AT&T, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Rogers, etc) so that you can use it with another GSM SIM card.

No one can tell you what it is; every GSM phone in the world has a different code based on the IMEI; call AT&T and ask them for the unlock code.

Dont forget; if someone says no or wants you to got through "applying" for the lock code, just hang up and call again immediately. You'll get a rep who will do it for you with ease, eventually

I just rang up like 10 mins ago and it was no problem. They just said it might take up to 28days which is a bit of a pain. Ah well. Cheers anyway mate.

To avoid that, I try to make sure I tell them that I don't plan on leaving their service; I just want more versatility with my phone. To be able to switch SIM cards if one carrier isn't in service, to save on my minutes, travel, etc... It's their job, once you've calmed that particular storm, they're a breeze to talk to XD

It'll increase the value of your phone, because people using other carriers can buy it. Besides that, using the phone on another provider is pretty much the only reason. Say, for example, you want a BlackBerry Storm, but you have AT&T and not Verizon. Unlocking the Storm would allow you to use it on an otherwise incompatible (and better) network.

When you insert the new SIM, the network should automatically download the service books and the new web browser (since it won't be MEdia Net) will appear. If not... there are ways to get them on the phone.
You can do that with every phone, just do some research on the phone you want before you buy it :D

and it wouldn't get online anymore and didn't send pictures or anything anymore.

I'm not sure how your SIM worked if you simply put it into the phone of another carrier; either it was unlocked prior to your receiving it (say if someone unlocked it and it somehow went back to the company. it stays unlocked forever), ooorr... I dunno XD Without being there firsthand I couldn't make any guesses.

I like mobilecityonline, personally. But like I said, don't forget to research the phone before you buy it; search forums and ask questions if you need to (if no one has asked it already), so if you need to do something to unlock the multimedia services, you know in advance. For the most part though, you shouldn't have to worry with an unlocked phone!

It all depends on the kind of phone you want, whether you like a keyboard or a touch screen, if you need email services, etc... I can make recommendations based on your interests, but if you know what you like, I shouldn't need to do that for you.
Here's what I do: I look up phones on MSO, write down/copy all the models I think look interesting, and then I go to cnet and look up the reviews. They get weeded out pretty fast that way, and you learn a ton of new stuff.

Thanks man, it works. I called at&t and told them that I needed to unlock the phone because I have a sim card from Mexico, and I did not want to buy another phone. The representative was very helpful. She did not even ask me for any numbers because she looked at my account. The call did not take more than 5 minutes.

Erm... that one I'm not too sure on, actually. I've heard you can do it when you put in another carrier's SIM (like t-mobile), because it'll ask for the Subsidy Lock Code. Try that out, but you still have to contact AT&T Customer Support and tell them you need the code for the phone's IMEI. :P Hopefully you don't have Verizon or Sprint; you can't unlock a phone for those networks ^^

Just make sure when you call AT&T that you tell them very politely that you bought a phone, and you'd like to unlock it. Tell them you don't have a phone number for it when they ask, and that you're not currently a customer. If they say they can't, tell them you don't appreciate being lied to. :P If they're a stubborn Rep, hang up and call again; you'll get someone else lol
