i'm an absolute guitar noob. i see him steppping on something to get a really distorted hard rock sound, what is it? i notice even when i play power chords they don't sound like that
@wowdezare just count up four half steps. For instance a C. C to C#, C# to D, D to D# then D# to E. That will give you the major third, if you want a minor chord then only count up three half-steps. To get the fifth, then go up seven half-steps... starting from E we already know that from C to E is four half-steps, now go up only three more half-steps from the E. Hope that helps!
hey thankings alot actually. i started looking at some musical theory lessons online and on youtube and this does help. i know what a third is now! and ima keep learning some more.
@wowdezare haha awesome! keep at it and youll be a great composer. If you have any other questions feel free to ask, Im taking music as a minor in college so I know some stuff... just as long as it isnt really advanced theory haha
If you recorded a few of your own songs I would instantly buy them, you've been practically my greatest inspiration and best teachers of the ways of guitar.
You could have the potential of having a huge music following now that your youtube channel is a success!!
listen guys, i know im a failiure but please could you look on my channel at my vids, and even subscribe!

@canasfam Either can work. 5 chords, or power chords, are a "neutral" chord, since the 5th in most minor scales and the major scales is the same. For rock or metal, you'd most likely go with a minor, darker scale, or minor pentatonic, but if you know how to use the major pentatonic right, or want to change the "mood" of the song, major pentatonic or certain major scales will work. The intro to Tuesday's Gone by Skynyrd is an example of using an A Major scale to sound less "uppitty". Experiment.

Guitarlover032 1 year ago
@Guitarlover032
depends on what you want to play. there is no "better", just a suitable.
Just read something about guitar-pickups and then decide wether a singlecoil or a humbucker pleases your style.

wouldnt the Emajor, just become a E minor??
nyjeterss 1 year ago
@nyjeterss I am not at all a guitar expert but from what he said I guess that there are three options regarding this G string in E chord:
- with the G string pressed down
- with open G string
- with muted G string.
You get the powerchord when you mute the G string in this case.
