@madteacups, a Princess Fantasy Faire Ceremony plays in the Fantasyland Theater now. The Aladdin musical plays in the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure.
at disney california adventrues where the aladdin show is their gonna do a beauty and the beast...well after toy story 3 but there gonna do beauty and the ebats its probably gonna be amazing
i was 2 at this point.... or possibly 5.... either way i was really little and pretending to be belle ^_^.... though i never had a beast or gaston.... this is how i learned to read books and walk at the same time with out falling over stuff ^_^ lol
This was a real Disneyland stage show. Now we are stuck with sub-par parades, Dragons that fail, and other a giant waste of space meet n' greet where a proper show like this should be. What ever happened to real Disneyland entertainment like this?
If this was recorded in the early run of the show, it was definitely Stephanie because on her website, it says she was the original Belle in the Disneyland production of Beauty and the Beast.
I have no idea whether she is singing or not, She could, but she couldn't, It sounds like Gaston is actually singing, But it sounds prerecorded, hmm, Hard to tell. Hahaha!
If you go to Stephanie's official website, on her resume it sites her as the original Bell at Disneyland.
"Stephanie has also done a number of commercials and voice-overs (including the singing voice of Barbie), as well as appearing at industry conventions all over the world. She has appeared as the Lead Vocalist with Les Brown & His Band of Renown and the Billy Vaughn Orchestra, and was the original Belle in the Disneyland production of "Beauty and the Beast." "
I remember this very fondly too...it takes me back to Disneyland of the early 90's..when they also premiered Fantasmic! It was a much better time than now.. I loved this stage show and I used to go to Disneyland just to see this! It's too bad it's gone they ought to bring it back along with other Disney movie stage shows
kinda sucks disneyland doesn't have this show anymore. one of my earliest memories is seeing it with my dad on my first trip to disneyland, 4th birthday, 1993. and Beauty and the Beast is my favorite disney movie.
I believe I saw it at Florida when i went last year. I'm not going to say 100% because I've been so many times but I do have a strong memory of seeing it last year with my friends.
yeah, it's at Disney World at Hollywood Studios. the show at Disneyland closed years ago. and i live in southern Cali, so that kinda sucks. i saw the Disney World version almost 9 years ago, and i don't WHEN the next time i go there will be.
does ne1 kno when there will b a new show? B/c the last "new" show i went to see at disneyland wuz, Snow White an Enchanting Musical. and also Alladin, a Musical Spectacular.
To the best of my knowledge, they change it up every few years. Snow White is now closed (The Princess Fantasy Faire is now occupying the space), but Aladdin is still running in California Adventure. :-)
Its been a long time. The time i saw this play was when I'm 4 yrs old at disneyland and now i'm 19. I wished they didn't stop this. I'm glad to see this again.
The Anaheim version was WAY better than the Florida version. I guess there are more talented dancers/choreographers and singers in Southern California.
When I saw it in Florida, I cringed when the beast was stabbed and walked to the wings to make an obvious transition to the prince.
It was like a BAD high school production number. Anaheim was the basis for the Broadway show. Thank goodness!!
Where, where, what? Apparently Eden was a cake in one production, but's it's not been determined that was this one. She was an Elphie. This IS SJB, though, as Belle, who was also an Elphie.
Oh, yes! What an "Elphaba" voice. I saw the Beauty and the Beast show at Disneyworld, and our Belle was gorgeous but annoyingly nasal. Our Gaston was quite attractive, too, and he had the most beautiful, powerful voice. I don't know who he was but he sounded like a future Broadway star. :)
I definitely think this is Stephanie. Just listen to her acting. when she says beanstalk it totally sounds like her and in the other two videos. Hands down. I've seen her live so many times it def is!
Gaston looks so fat it's almost funny! and this is Disney! God, now days anyone can be a Disney caharcter at least they could try to stick as close to the characters as possible
Again, theme park productions will never be at the level of Broadway or Movies. They don't have the budget. There was even a "Storybook Theater" version of about 20 minutes on the little "Carnation" stage before this production, with only Belle and the Beast as physical characters and the rest were puppets. Actually, I think Micky and Minnie appeared in it, too. It was a LONG time ago when I was a Dicken's Caroler.
This director undid a lot of things of the things the director did in the movie. The presentation of the curse was awful because some of the audience couldn't even see the hag and you didn't even see her deliver the curse as punishment. -BAD. And, one of the triplets is wearing blue. In the movie, Belle is the only person wearing blue to make her stand out. that's what the whole song is about. These things are minor, but show sloppy directing.
I was at the Beauty and the Beast in April 1992 too. I haven't read all the comments below yet, but who played Gaston? I'm uploading a short clip with close-ups of the twoon my site. I think that he looks like j. Travolta in very good makeup. Until I read your description, I thaught that Marie Osmond was Belle?
No. Hunchback played in the Festival of Fools area in Frontierland as a theater-in-the-round performance. Disney-MGM had their own version with an extended proscenium stage.
It really depends on the date this was filmed. If it was anywhere from Feb thru Oct of 1994, then it can't be SJB. Because she was doing Will Roger's Follies in Branson, MO. She played Z's Fav
I'm pretty sure my dad taped The Goofy Parade right before recording Beauty & the Beast on the same day. The Goofy Parade ran between June 19, 1992 to November 15, 1992. So this recording must have been in Summer 1992. So would it make sense she did B&B before Follies?
Actually, I'm pretty sure she did. She was also up for the lead in the Broadway version but lost out because they were afraid she wasn't yet seasoned enough.
She actually told us the story during rehearsals for Follies.
That's what happened with her in "Wicked." She did the early readings of "Wicked" and was going to originate the role on Broadway, but she didn't have any Broadway credits yet and that's why they picked Idina.
Well like another user said, even though the movie was released in 1991, the Oscars was in '92 and this show came a couple months later. Most likely the Disneyland version was in rehearsals months before. Different people have their takes on the musical. The Oscars has a 6 min version with 2 songs and geared more towards a mature audience for national broadcasting. Costumes also are more "realistic". A lot of money was paid to the original cast members for their appearance as well.
Disneyland is on a tighter budget for a daily show. It's a 20 minute version of the movie with "fuzzie" characters (which you don't see in the Oscars). Costumes are more "cartoony" to appeal to the younger audience. The show uses more songs than Oscar's 2 songs used. You have performers that may have bright futures. Like Stephanie Block as "Belle" who will later have a Broadway career. The theme park version can't hire a lot of little kids because they have school and child labor laws.
The public to whom it goes directed is not the only difference. Directing, Clothes, music, Choreography, the scene!. Everything in oscar's performance looks better!. And I don't why.
thats def. SJB. Her voice is younger sounding but the way she prounces her words and the way she just flows over the notes so well is a pointer that its her. She is amazing in this, and also it looks alot lik her
I know this is Stephanie J. Block. I worked there at the time. I know both Michelle and Stephanie and this is definitely Stephanie. They had very different voices and looks
I wasn't in this show. But I knew her well. I was in the Aladdin's Oasis dinner theatre then. We met long before this production and worked together briefly in Animazement playing the same role (not at the same time though). Michelle and I did a show at the El Capitan when the Lion King was playing.
I was a Christmas Caroler, I did a target market tour singing "Minnie and Friends" at the P.P hotel, a few industrials, special events and tours nationally and internationally.
I love the one in Disney World but disneylands is so much more high tech and if that is SJB which the description says is wrong, its even more amazing!
There was this "Sing Along" musical revue of Snow White for the film's 50th anniversary. I actually just found the TV special for the show. I may post it one of these days as a private video.
that is definately SJB. i lov her! her voice is so unique and easy to recognize. not to mention its gorgouse! but i do not think it was right for this part :D still lov her though and still lov her voice.
I don't believe in the idea that a performer must repeat and replicate the performance made by the 1st original performer. Every talent has their right to make it their own.
Unless I've gone crazy, I'd put down money that this is in fact Stephanie. She sounds exactly as a younger Stephanie would, her face as far as I can tell looks very very much like Stephanie, and her bow at the end is exactly the bow that Stephanie did during her run in Wicked. So unless it's proven otherwise, I'm 99% sure it is her.

at 4:05 she fell the yellow dressed girl
Stewie600 4 years ago
I think she was supposed to fall. She faints at Gaston's "biceps to spare".

I know this is Stephanie J. Block. I worked there at the time. I know both Michelle and Stephanie and this is definitely Stephanie. They had very different voices and looks
mistyluvr 4 years ago
That's awesome. What did you do in the show? Have you done any other Disney productions? And thanks for your confirmation.
filmfreak11 4 years ago
I wasn't in this show. But I knew her well. I was in the Aladdin's Oasis dinner theatre then. We met long before this production and worked together briefly in Animazement playing the same role (not at the same time though). Michelle and I did a show at the El Capitan when the Lion King was playing.
I was a Christmas Caroler, I did a target market tour singing "Minnie and Friends" at the P.P hotel, a few industrials, special events and tours nationally and internationally.

Whoa... that's really cool. Hope you had fun and have more fun in the future :D Thanks for the informative reply!

OMG That's amazing.
I love the one in Disney World but disneylands is so much more high tech and if that is SJB which the description says is wrong, its even more amazing!

Is any one going to see Stephanie J. Block in Wicked on broadway?
jeffreykare 4 years ago
jeffreykare, I am. SO EXCITED =P Why?
ohboyitssarah 4 years ago
Because it will be the 1st time she will be playing the role on Broadway.
jeffreykare 4 years ago
This is def. Stephanie J. Block. You can tell when she says "Oh...is'nt this AM-AZING..." You can also tell by her diction.

Didn't Snow White show here at DLR before Beauty and the Beast?
capcanes 4 years ago
There was this "Sing Along" musical revue of Snow White for the film's 50th anniversary. I actually just found the TV special for the show. I may post it one of these days as a private video.

That is so SJB
sithlord91 4 years ago
ah no I didn't read that sorry, that makes sense then. It was good how they blended Gastons song in. And then went back into "Belle".
muppetspuppets 4 years ago
love to see this but I'm not sure why they shortened the song so much. Is the whole show only 30min?
muppetspuppets 4 years ago
Yes... did you read my video description? It's a theme park stage show. It's not going to be 2 1/2 hours long...
filmfreak11 4 years ago
if you klisten to the part around 2:58 when she says "that" you can just tell its SJB just by the way she pronounces it!
chearchiq 4 years ago
Hmm, sounds like a distinctive "that". If that even makes sense to anyone :)
filmfreak11 4 years ago
i see what you mean i went and listened to pirate wueen after and it sounds like SJB
LTHSFanpire 3 years ago
hey! i remember when i used to go to those!
heinousbitch46 4 years ago
that is definately SJB. i lov her! her voice is so unique and easy to recognize. not to mention its gorgouse! but i do not think it was right for this part :D still lov her though and still lov her voice.
WickedxChick104 4 years ago
i dont really like her voice that much. the mgm girl's voice is much more belle, and its really cute
kathRinxoxo 4 years ago
I don't believe in the idea that a performer must repeat and replicate the performance made by the 1st original performer. Every talent has their right to make it their own.
filmfreak11 4 years ago
mgm is better!
SweetAngel0787 4 years ago
you are totally right im also now 99% sure thes stephanie if its not she sure sounds like her!!!!
shadyie 4 years ago
Unless I've gone crazy, I'd put down money that this is in fact Stephanie. She sounds exactly as a younger Stephanie would, her face as far as I can tell looks very very much like Stephanie, and her bow at the end is exactly the bow that Stephanie did during her run in Wicked. So unless it's proven otherwise, I'm 99% sure it is her.
Ravvana 4 years ago
Hmm... no one mentioned her "bow" before, I'm gonna check that out.
filmfreak11 4 years ago
i'd have to agree...but i have never seen or heard Michelle, so i'm honestly not sure. but as far as I know I think it's Stephanie too.
thefant 4 years ago
hey i just check on wikipedia (or whatever its called) and yes thats definatly Stephanie J block well done for noticing !!
