  • Love that sound too but would have preferred your text not be there on the passes

  • great great great!!! thanks for post.

  • Great video! It's good to hear the sound of a Mohawk again. It was one of my favorite aircraft I ever worked on.

  • ty for this great video...dam i love this plane and sound ;-)

  • Nice video i was a crewchief from 1986-1991 2nd MI and 224MI it was alot of fun to fly in them when i had a chance MTF,but i will never forgot replacing the aft fuel boost pump on these puppy what a pain in the butt, anyway never regret working on these awesome aircraft.

  • @vwsicko Was that at Fort Stewart? My wife was at the 124th MI, and later at 7th Corps in Stuttgart. One of the Mohawk pilots from Echterdingen used to bag air time by flying to one of the Rod & Gun clubs in England to buy cheap shotgun shells.

  • The OV-1 was THE coolest airplane ever operated by the US Army, and I have time in the one in this video. What I wouldn't give to fly one again.

  • would be complete with the smell of JP4.

  • Great video, thanks for posting it, trainav8r

  • Man watta plane! looks like a modern version of a Mosquito or B-26 invader.

  • It would be nice to see the video without all of the captions right in the way!...People want to see the airplane!

  • @moondogman

At the request of many viewers, captions were added because people did not know what they were looking at. I can't please everyone.

  • @trainav8r I'd say that if this is not a training video, that viewers don't need to know prop conditions, etc but it's not my video.

  • Very cool sound & look - thanks for posting.

I saw one of these parked at NAS North Island, Ca in about 1983. Being a Navy guy, I was mystified what the hell it was. An AF friend told me later. I never saw one fly 'til now. Very cool.

  • I trained at Fort Huachuca Jan-July 1974, 17 lima 20 L8. I then got sent to Germany to the 173 Assault Helicopter Co. as a 67November, UH-1 Mech. all my friends that graduated in front of my had no flight slots at the 73 AVN.Co at the Fleigerhorst Cassern and were MP's or other jobs. I was happy i still got to fly as Assistent Crew Chief on a chopper.

  • EAA is now done for this performed with 2 mustangs a corsair and a sea fury and although I'm a huge fan of all of them the mohawk is slowly growing on me for coolest sound

  • love that sound

    love that bird

  • @MOHAWK225

Aye. It's so high on the list of warbirds I'd want. Such a fascinating aircraft.

  • We use to have these birds fly out of McNAry field in salem, Oregon. Shame they still don't fly them would be good for forest fire observation and drug interdiction

  • @Kaledrums not 100% sure but i think U.S customs may have a few flying

  • @srt4crazy289 Not sure about these, but they definetly do have some OV-10 Broncos they fly for clandestine missions into south america for drug erradication

  • i worked at Stuart,Fla on the OV-1 Mohawk as a final assy. person for 3 yrs right up to the time it was discaontinued, awesome aircraft, lol went on to too work on the A6 Intruder which was also discontinued couldn't win, hahaha

  • @BlindBatz

I picked up OV-1 #12719 and flew it from Stewart to Caliufornia for its trip to Viet Nam. The factory personnel were really good to me.

  • Does any county still fly the OV-1? or OV-10 for that matter?

  • Does any county still fly the OV-1? or OV-10 for that matter?

  • @lst1195

Argentina flies the OV-1 since the US gave them several D Models after they were retired. I don't know about the OV-10.

  • From the looks of the video the OV-1 departed Anoka County Blaine Airport (Janes Field) ANE. Must be one of American Wings aircraft. Used to volunteer there while I was in high school. Got the opportunity to do a high speed taxi in their S-2 Tracker. Nice muesum but they are shutdown now because of lack of funds. Their equipment is scattered down at the South end of the field. Hopefully they reopen!?!!

    MIKE

  • The OV-1 flying is from the GA National Guard. The olive drab C-model in the background is a flyable museum bird.

  • @trainav8r Great video! I am a current volunteer at American Wings and they are still around. We lost the museum on the north end but are using the old maintance hangar at the south end.

  • @Northwest102 The muesum is still open but we no longer have the main hangar on the north end. We (I am a proud member of the muesum) are utilizing the maintance hangar on the south end now. When did you volunteer there?

  • @Northwest102

Yeah man! That blows! I remember doing my tower time there and seeing 3 of those OV-1's just sitting down there. Man, they beg to fly.

  • What is the long box on the outside of the lower fuselage?

  • It is the antenna for the Side Looking Airborne Radar (SLAR). This is an electronic surveillance airplane.

  • Thanks. I was just looking up the OV-1 on Wikipedia and was reading about that equipment option when you replied!

  • Did you ever fly at 122nd AVN, in Germany? I was a T.O. there from Oct. 70-Feb 73.

  • Nope, just Ft Lewis, 73rd RVN, instructor at Huachuca, 245th RVN

  • OK Thanks for posting great video. Sure did love those days.

  • i want one.

  • There are several for sale, some flyable and some not. But they are A and C models for the most part. The Ds are still an active plane in Argentina.

  • i am a huge King Air fan, but i would buy one of these things over that in a new york minute.

  • I've flown both the King Air (900 hrs) and the Mohawk (2000 hrs). There is no comparison. The OV-1, when stripped of its surveillance gear, is fully aerobatic and its single engine performance is super. You can even roll it into a dead engine. Inverted flight is limited due to oil sumps instead of pressurized oil in the engines. A great looper.

  • was the observer an officers held position or enlisted?!?

  • The TO in the right seat was an enlisted man who operated the Side Looking Airborne Radar (SLAR, Infra red optical line scanner (IR) or the several cameras on board. There are no controls in the right seat except in some A models used for flight training.

  • what an awesome mos.

  • does it have a good heating and a/c system???...i would want to tint the windows.

  • Has A/C for low altitude operations in hot climates and good heat for operations at high altitudes where it's cold. Service ceiling is 30,000 ft. No pressurization.

  • thanks for the intel...was stationed at ft.bragg for many years...worked in air defense and nbc with my airborne brothers.

  • Nice to see that someone loves these venerable old timers. I have not heard much of them since working on their hydraulics systems U.S. Army last station

Camp Humphreys Korea early 90s great video thanks.

  • LOVE IT! I am trying to track down people who knew my dad Mark Dugan Lawrence. I also have some Mohawk flight footage on VHS. I believe my clips are from Ft.Huachuca and Germany. Also have footage from either Ft.Rucker AL or Ft.Stewart Georgia.

  • It would be nice to see your videos from Huachuca and Germany. I was stationed at both places as a T.O.

  • it actually sounds deeper in real life theres one that comes to oshkosh and it sounds great

  • reminds me of the ov-10 sound

  • Great video man, finally someone makes a video that hits all the high points of a turbo-prop. Those of us who get our kicks just from the sound of the props unfeathering and reversing really can appreciate the video. Great quality too!

  • Was an OV-1D T.O. for seven years.

    Brings back great memories.

  • dam she looks great ...

  • espectacular!!! gracias por compartir este video desde argentina.!! este es mi avion favorito.

  • Tengo 2000 horas como piloto. 900 en combate. Amo a Mohawk.

  • I love this sound too!
