This song describes some pretty tough lessons I had to learn the hard way. There are consequences to every thought and action we do and say to another human being. When a person talks to another individual. He or She can only come from a position of Love or Fear. The consequences can be either positive or negative. I work at the positive consequences in conversations to others. Thank you RAT for your positive influence in my life... -Leroy-
I remember seeing these guys open for Billy Squier summer of "84", the next year they were headlining and bon jovi opened for Ratt. The next year joan jett and poison opened for RATT. Those were great times.....
@01po01po Right on bro...Definitely GREAT times indeed. I saw those concerts myself in Indianapolis @Market Square Areana(R.I.P.) Took my son to the Get your Sting & Blackout Farewell tour last year in Tampa. Had the privilige to see them open for the Scorps...GREAT show!!! Rock on \m/ (>.<) \m/
@headkickerIII You certainly got that right !! Warren was Amaze'g on guitar & Slash..... well, they can have him, he aint got noth'n on di martini. I miss those days !!
Robbin Crosby's riffs were the anchor for the Ratt sound, and it's not the same without him. Rest in peace Robbin. Those first five Ratt albums are classics.
i got to meet warren and bobby once in misoula, mt. As a life long RATT fan it was pretty cool to shake their hands. Thanks to Blotz and W. RATT & ROLL!!!
Besides Warren's obvious abilities to shred, imo another thing that just put him head and shoulders above the other guitarists of his genre and era was the sheer ability to make a quality riff. All great songs are centered around that powerful riff.
Warren, playing a Performance Guitars 'Corsair' model custom guitar. These videos by the Oil Can (meant in appreciation) are fantastic for any guitar player to watch, listen and learn....
You simply don't hear guitarists of the caliber of Warren much any more, it used to an essential part of the culture. I remember for a while in the shitty mid '90s, it was highly frowned upon to even play any solo. But people have been coming back to their senses in recent years!!
Agree, "grunge" required your instruments to be out of tune and strummed randomly while wearing a crappy flanno shirt, I'll take actual talent over that any day.
Just to add a little history. This song was first written and performed by Steve Caton who was the long time Tori Amos guitar player and then ratt purchesed the rights and cut their version. Which as you all know the caton version was way different, although the lyrics were close the entire feel was different( I only heard the caton version once though and it was like 15 years ago) and that's the story if you don't beleive me check the songwrite credits on ratt an roll!
Sweet....I know Steve pretty well....I used to surf with him all the time at Malibu...I was aware of him being Tori Amos' guitar player,,but not about this..thanks...by the way...he says he hasn't picked up a guitar for years..
Seriously, Ratt were a badass! hard rock band. They were really great. Warren is just one of the best, I always include him in the holy trinity of LA Shredders who are George Lynch, Tony MacAlpine and Warren. Bobby kicks ass and Stephen voice is great and totally unique.
P.S. Also was just in the Hard Rock Casino and Resort in Tulsa OK, they have a pic of Jimmy Hendrix, that's where Warren gets that Hot opening his mouth thing, I think!!!! There's a shirt and pic of it in there...Wish I had one of Warren....wheeew!!!!!!
In the early 80's warren and George were best friends and you can notice slight similarities in their play I think.Since you mentioned that, you might have known this already, but others may not.One reason Warren ranks high on my fav guitarist list...Awesome video to the sharer and thanks for sharing....Ratt and roll on friends!
Warren has very cool sound! Nice sharp tone on rear humbucker and such melodious tone on neck single, which he used a lot on "collage" and "ratt" '99.
By the way, who plays keyboards on the background???
He was on fire for this whole set. Oilcan really captured a fantastic gig for Warren D fans. For me personally, this is like a flashback, because I watched him from this exact angle for a show on that tour in London, but could only get still pics.
Exactly. Players like Warren spent time crafting these solos like mini-songs within songs. That's why they stand the test of time. That, and the attention to tone, touch, vibrato, and all of the little things that make the greats stand out!
thanks OILCAN for posting...Note to Warren Clones: These are the best videos to watch / hear his playing techniques for these songs...BTW, nice Performance Guitar Corsair Model....
As a working guitarist myself..I must I've always appreciated Warrens talent...certainly one of a kind.He still plays just as good as he did back then.
Much better playing by Warren here than what he did in more recent years. His guitar seems to be quite out of tune here, though. Listen to the end of that solo on the 22nd fret. Ouch.
LOL....in a way, I'm glad Warren struggles with that solo a bit. It always makes me feel better when the original artist has problems with it too. Warren really gets smokin at the end. He's just RIPPING there near the end. It may not be note for note like the CD but really,,,who cares. The guy flat out can play.
That solo is one of the coolest ones from Warren IMO. I cant get tired of this tune. It's a shame Robbin's gone. I think it would be totally awesome if Ratt's original lineup would get back together like Crue's did and do a new LP. I bet it would sell big time too.
Crosby did not pass away before this song was written. He passed away in the later 90's, this song was done in the the later 80's/early 90's, it's on the Point break soundtrack...
i love ratt's version of "walking the dog" you guys should check it out if you ain't heard it yet and listen to warren's killer guitar breaks!!! totally awesome!!!!
this song first hit the big screen when POINT BREAK was released , then they realized thatthe song was to good and stared to make live performances of it
