Its because they each have 9.3 repeating, you when you add them all together with the 2 bucks ontop (yay 2bucks!) you have 29.99 because 33+ 33+ 33= 99 and 9 + 9+ 9 is 27 + 2 equals 29, with the 99 cents.

The whole idea of the riddle/puzzle is the cleverness in how $1 is missing. The way it is put is how it happens. You can stop trying to prove that its wrong, its just supposed to be a neat trick that you can do.
