Started on 50mg a day got up to 500mg a day with 300g depakote and 7500mg keppra. Became violent and moody i think was the keppra. I eventualy dropped keppra becuz the violence was extreme. Then dropped the depakot and now on 30mg dilantin and happy. But at times can not focus eyes they bounce all over the place. Has anyone had the eye problem??? Also since i started at 11 ive had severe hand itchyness. Ive told all to my neuro and nothing.

IMPORTANT: If u are taking Dilantin, DO NOT switch to generic without asking ur neurologist 1st! OUR EXPERIENCE: No one told us there is a significant enough difference between the name brand name & generic. One day he decided to try switching to generic bc it was cheaper. Unfortunately, the pharmacy did not catch this mistake & he ended up having seizures again bc the capsule coating is different enough that the time release was thrown off & caused Dilantin level to be off balance.

I am on pheyntoin right now and the memory problems is awful. I also have tremors from time to time in my hand. I am thinking about using herbal medication to lower the over activity like either valerian or skull cap and i am slowing working this down. It is not perfect but, it is better then this chemical stuff.

I have less skin rashs on my hands now and my I have less tremors as well because I take less medicine. If you read some medications and their side effects some medicines will cause seizures. If you don't have seizures, then one 100mg Dilantin Kapseal a day is an anti-aging drug, and makes your mood better, too.

It may make you need less sleep, too.

I've taken this dose of Dilantin since 1998 and it changed my life so much for the better.

Jack Dreyfus was first to use Dilantin for non epilepsy reasons. He wrote a book, A Remarkable Medicine Has Been Overlooked, telling the good things it did for him.

Although I had benefits and no side effects at 3 caps/day divided, I eventually lowered my own dose to 1 capsule a day. This is 100mg of Dilantin extended release daily.

The reason I lowered my dose is in case I'm ever hospitalized and can't get Dilantin because I'm not epileptic I want to be sure not to suffer any withdrawal symptoms.

And I feel almost as good taking one capsule daily as I did taking 3 or 2 a day.

Dilantin works fine for me....and works great with my OCD meds. However, that doesnt mean it will work for everyone. Each person's brain chemistry is different. For instance one drug was supposed to make me hyper (according to the majority) but guess what...it made me sleep all day and all night. Total opposite. They key is finding what works for YOU cause what works for one doesn't always for the other. One pill doesn't always fit all in medicine.

I was prescribed this back in 1970, why, I am not exactly sure. I do remember this however, the headaches were horrid. Excruciating! Debilitating. Frightening. I would want to be damn sure before a loved one took this, that it was both the right med for the symptoms, and it was closely monitored by a physician, not a parent.

As far as I know every siezure med has One common side effect and that is that it may cause more siezures! Dilantin was very very hard on me along with some others.But I know people it worked well for. The only thing I can say is that doctors do not seem to be very forthcoming with this information and until you find a good one (there are not too many) you are at there mercy. So do research and go to them with your facts if they dont like it get a new DR.

most of the time its no warning before you have a seizure some people complain of a headache but there is no warning u have to just pray your not driving or no where that can put u in danger or no one else and take your medicine the most important thing is finding the medication that works for u and gonna keep u seizure free good luck

i had severe depression with dilanin i often blackout at least 3 to 4 times a day running into doors,cabinets, whatever was there and i was having seizures quite often dilantin is a poisen and should b banned ive been taking keppra and limital and i havent had a seizure since i started this medication 2 years ago.also depakote is a terrible medication it dont work u lose your memory; gain weight and sleep all day and it to does not stop seizures or headache

My doctors had me taking that POISON for what was at that time, over half my life!!

Because of that stupid medication, I have among other things, Severe Depression, fits of rage, and worse of all, I can't remember ANYTHING!!!

Before Dilantin, I had a PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY, now I can't remember anything!!

When I asked my Doctor at that time why he never told me of the side effects, he responded "You never asked." Can you believe that??????
