in these early morning hours as i write:-cold, dark, silent..there is a sense of 'coming home'; of all that i have been missing within; the din that leads me, anyone from their inner sanctum-now resting gently in the beauty of images and music. thank you for sharing.
Sometimes one has to go through their "dark night of the soul." One has to strip away all of the props and defenses one has to see what one is really made of. Leave all these things behind and transforms oneself. It could be triggered by anything, but it is very profound after going through it. This music captures the feeling. Thank you for the video, nycdrew.

@PapaCharlieWhiskey yes you are correct, sometimes it just happens, and it has to. We need to be reminded that the Truth is more important than our respective religious faith, tradition etc. The Summum Bonum, however we may conceive it, is not subject to or encapsulated by the words in our spiritual texts. And so, I must accept this apparent dankness that has clouded me over again, and just...keep practicing, even if practice feels empty, and like a shell!
"En una noche oscura en ansias de amores inflamada sali ser notada estando ya mi casa sosegada.En secreto que nadie me veia ni yo miraba cosa sn otra luz ni guia que la que en el corazón ardía..."
This poem is much better in portuguese and in spanish.
In english there is not a word to say the "male lover" and the "female lover". We say "amado" and "amada", in portuguese/spanish. This is what Saint John says: the "female lover" in the "male lover" transformed, i.e., "amada no amado transformada". The "female lover" is our soul and the 'male lover" is God.
yes,......i do love this. thank you Mary,....many interpretations have followed this work, but you cannot escape the breath of love from the song....it's caress is felt,....like that from a lover....the warmth unmistakable......
I cry to this video after I see the broken statue head because it reminds me of the brokeness I felt in dark nights of my soul . Loving God for the beauty and love we shared which I knew was stronger than the pain, sorrow and the death itself of what ever that he was trying to put to death in me. Nights that keeps me humble like a lonely sparrow on the roof top and a suckling baby at the door step , weak, meek, and needy and I fall in love again with Him, my dearest Maker.
Out of the Dark Night of the Soul...The Angel of the Presence & the Gifts of Grace...The dawn of the (Sun, Son) & the Light of the Father's home (Om)...!!
What a beautiful and exquisite song! And this video is superb, accoding to the music and its atmosphere. Fantastic! I enjoy listening again and again; don't get tired. Simply unique!

what a disappointment though, loreena can't write her own songs. she has to quote st john, shakespear and blake or some poet. pity. plus she is way to serious of a person - too tight. she is almost insufferable to listen to.
I have heard similar things about the difficulty in translating St. John of the Cross. Nonetheless, this is a huge song - it captures the heart of those Carmelite mystics who yearned for union with God.
Beyond its religious meaning this poem is full of sensuality which cannot been denied and it is a literary masterpiece in Spanish language. She has not distorted the message at all, BrigadierCristero.
La poesía no se explica si no es libre de ser interpretada.
yes. alot of people talk positively of "sensuality" in music and as a personal attribute, but it is scorned by the faithful of religion who recognize within its subtle flavors the essence of destruction and pain.
sensuality is a creation of gods perfect love. the faithful religious seperate themselves from God by dwelling in thier own super egos and pius imaginations. destruction and pain is what they impose on all that is not a function of their holy egos.true love destroys self importance and thats why religious people fear sensuality. Its the reality of God challenging their egocentric fantasy of God. Gods reality wins every time and religious people call it the devils work for disregarding their SELF
This is the collest calmest song that I have heard in a very long time. I wish more songs had more feelings and emotion behind it such as this song. Loreena Mckennitt sings in so many of my movies that I like. Like "Roar", and 'The Mists of Avalon".
excellent

Those are not St. John of the Cross original poems. This song has corrupted and distorted the message from it´s original writer. What a shame.
