It's a really good movie, but it's not all fun and games, there are serious and depressing tones all throughout the movie. There's also good uplifting stuff as well though. You should check it out, but I won't spoil it for you.

IIRC, Tom Waits is a panhandler in Grand Central. He doesn't have much screen time.
