@thephilosophylover stay off if you are just gonna dis our beloved Trek. We are fierce as Klingons and stubborn as Romulans when it comes to defending it. You've been warned. You've ALL been warned.
Is it really Kayless in Klingon (or Klingonese as it was once called by a smooth-forehead p'tak!). Most of the time it's spelled Kah'less in English. Btw: it would be cool to name a first child Kah'less and make them spell it in Klingon letters. Oh look! My autocorrect has learned the name already! Good for it! Also, raise the child speaking and writing in English and Klingon.
@psychfanatic22 could you translate for me? I have some from the Doctor's translation in 6-6 Barge of the Dead, but I'm missing some. I know "and the river Skral Byteek was crimson red", but I'm missing before and after that. Thank you!
Season 4, episode 1, Way of the Warrior. Worf, newly arrived on DS9, has a few drinks with an old friend of his fathers in order to find out the real reason why Gowron and the Klingon fleet are there.
If you learn it a line at a time, it's actually pretty easy. They'd probably have worked together in rehearsals to make sure they both sang it right. In my video I'm just singing by myself ...
As far as I can see, this recording is from episode "The Way of the Warrior" (DS9).
The older guy with Worf is Huraga.
This song keeps coming back in different ST series... as far as I know, Neelix, the Doctor, Gowron, Worf & Huraga have performed this song during the series.
Well, claiming the language isn't real just shows how little you actually understand. If two people can communicate using Klingon, is it not a language?
It may be entertaining and antic, but it is real.
"Language: The method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way. Any method of expression or communication." It appears to me that Klingon meets falls squarely into the Oxford English definition of language. What additional criteria must it satisfy for you to accept it as a "real" language Ereinion?
Um, yes, this is great, really, I LOVE the phonetic spelling of the Klingon words... and I don't know who the old dude is, but dude, that is SO not Gowron. Gowron's the skinny dude who always looks like he's on coke.
I learned how to sing this and whenever i am stressed, nervous, happy or bored i sing this until it annoys the crap out of my little sister!

That's not Gowron. I don't know who it is but Gowron has the most effed up ridges in all of trek. It's easy to remember what he looks like.

haha and the most intense eyes!

The heck with his ridges. Gowron's eyes always bugged the shit out of me.

And the blood was ankle deep
And the River Skral ran crimson red
On the day above all days
When Kahless slew evil Molor dead!

it's interesting that this is the accepted translation, because literally translated this song barely makes sense.

Good that it's fiction then. Catastrophe averted.
EreinionEluchil 2 years ago
Well, the language is very real.
TheWALOS 2 years ago 2
No it's not. It's a fictionally created language that has a rudimentarily adaptive syntax and grammar structure applied to it.
EreinionEluchil 2 years ago
You missed the point...
TheWALOS 2 years ago 2
The point is that it's supposed to be entertaining and antic. No, I don't think I'm the one that missed the point.

@EreinionEluchil Doesn't have quite the same tone in English as it does in Klingon
