Well the new duke is great but you somehow miss the FEEL that you are most hardcore man in history of humankind. Everyone is telling you that you are hero, even yourself, but there is still something.. missing. I dont miss it in trailers from 3D realms, but from those of gearbox and the final game.. it is like too much duke show, rather than duke game.

@HergotH01 I know what you mean, I know a Duke Nukem game is not suppose to be subtle but this was way out of proportions regarding Duke, his ego, and the world.

One of the things is for example the on liners, in Duke3D it was random and amusing, but now it seemed demanded.

The references to other media like games also seems 'angrier' or 'nastier' unlike the references in Duke3D which were more like tributes like the references to old spy series in one level such as The Avengers, and Get Smart.

@skullstrider Actually DNF was nearly done when Gearbox got it. 2K basically gave them a year to polish it up and make it (somewhat) playable, then kick it out the door to try and recoup some of their loses. Not to mention some of this trailer was faked, and most of what wasn't was dropped when 3D realms changed engines (again).

Been playing DNF for a couple days. I definitely see some simularities from this old trailer in the final copy. The animation for grabbing stuff is the same, that keypad is the same. The sights are virtually the same. Nice to see that all of this stuff wasn't just for show and it was actually being worked on for all these years.

It's one kick ass game for sure.

Yea I agree. This trailer seems so much more badass then the one coming out next month. I mean , every fucking thing happens in this trailer, sea combat, air combat, drivings cars, trucks, motorcycles, MINE CARTS! , you fight aliens, monsters,hot bitches, even Sentient robots from the future who protect John Connor (but attack Duke Nukem). This was like the be all , end all game to me, I really hope the new one includes most if not all the stuff that we can observe from this trailer.

@Doctalen your actually wrong. Everything here trailer was playbale. The ex 3DR employee you mention, Charlie Wiederhold, made up the whole "chair story" as it is now known. Both Scott Miller and George Broussard came out and refuted his story on both Duke4 and the old 3DR forums. The 2001 build was about 20% done when this was made, and all the concepts you see here were indeed playable, albeit perhaps not on the scale you see in the trailer, which exaggerated how far along the game was.

You have to admit Duke Nukem Forever inspired better games throughout the past ten years. I would take this version. Duke Nukem is the kind of game that would have a motorboating mini-game. So Duke doesn't need state of the art graphics, because it's actually good.

All of the levels in this game were updated graphically and gameplay wise for the 2011 release. So they mine level, the dragon, the terminators, the killing aliens with their own spaceships, evil pig cops, giant tentacle monsters, hot babes and dead civillians are all gonna be in there.

Wow, this looks pretty badass even for its time like other games before it. Looks a bit like Half Life but design is much like Duke Nukem. Still awesome, they could have shipped this game out since it's very good. The final 2011 game looks great too, though that one uses much more modern ideas which is still a good thing.
