I have heard that strats strings are slightly tighter and harder to play due to the longer neck length. I have a strat and can bend strings just fine. Thinking about getting a gibson (les paul is what Iam looking at right now) I have played les pauls before and they seem to have looser strings but can't tell 100%. Does anyone else notice if les pauls have looser strings than strats because if thats true then it will be easier for me to switch to the les paul. thanks.
its hard to say which one is better i got a strat myself and i love it, im hoping to get a gibson les paul sometime soon, but u defintly cant go wrong with either one, i think once i get both guitars ill probly play both of them half and half
@demon4411 the sound of a les paul and a strat "the same".. i think i've heard it all now. regardless of whether either is "better" than the other or any of that nonsense, one thing that can't be argued is that strats and les pauls sound different - very very different lol.
@demon4411 les o\pauls cost 1000-2000 strats cost 900- 2000 unless your getting a black beuty or some special kind then they are 75000 haha. but they arent that expensive
I'm a musician but not a guitar player. My daughter is taking lessons on a Squire mini Strat and I've been playing her lessons as well. Looking at full size axes I wasn't sure about Strat vs Paul. I expected to like the Strat better for some tunes and the Paul better for others but I liked the Paul better every time. Not sure if it really sounds better or if I'm must more used to the Les Paul sound. In the bands I've been in the guitar player used a Paul. I'm definitely getting a Paul.
These two guitars sound similar because they are both using humbucked bridges...to be frank it is the pickup that influences the majority of the sound - its called electric guitar for a reason. Wood is also a factor will not show itself as clearly as the pickup. A lespaul with single coil pickups will sound bright, and a strat with humbuckers will sound think.
@Jackallanbauer Fender is good for punk and grunge, but not a squire, those are cheaper than cheap. I definitely wouldn't use any type of Les Paul, though. Punk and grunge focus a lot on rhythm and the Les Paul really doesn't have a heavy enough rhythm sound. Either save up for a real Fender Strat or try to find some cheap knock off brand that has pretty good reviews.
@jsrnash12 Obviously I didn't, if you were able to reply to it. "Fender is good for punk and grunge, but not a squire, those are cheaper than cheap. I definitely wouldn't use any type of Les Paul, though. Punk and grunge focus a lot on rhythm and the Les Paul really doesn't have a heavy enough rhythm sound. @Darkside626 the guitarist for the sex pistols recorded never mind the bollacks on a LP. anarchy in the uk probably the greatest punk song ever outside of something written by the ramones was on an lp
LP and the Strat are too different guitars, one for different kinds of music. You are playing Under the Bridge, and Frusciante is a Fender player, so obviously it will sound better. I like Fender more personally though.
they are both totally make for different different reasons, LP is mostly made for like metal and heavy music or at least sounds better for that kind of music, and the Strat is made for like blues and soft rock but still can make some sick metal riffs but sounds better for blues and other music like that.
Lets compare two Rock bands Blue Cheer Use Fender P Bass and Strats and the sound is so fucking Awesome so Beautiful check them out on youtube so you know what im talking about. And Now lets look at Led Zep fender P Bass and And a Les Paul comapre Both have very different sounds. The LeS Paul is best for hard rock and the strat is best for psych and blues
My problem is that I like the size and looks of the LP and the fret access, clarity and hollow 'woodiness' of the Strat. Where do you think this increased 'woodiness' comes from? is it the maple neck? - wonder what a maple neck LP would sound like...
@noslen1968 the clarity of the strat comes from single coil pickups, single coils and a es paul (uncommon) would sound similar. humbucking pickups sound thicker and powerdfull on overdrive.
@vanzXcyRus id say get an hss strat, your covered from jazz to metal with it. thats my guitar, and play blues, country, classic rock, hard rock, blues, blues rock. even an sss standard will get you all those tones. both are execellent, it just comes down to what feels better in your hands.
Les Paul is not from gibson only, LP is the model. Gibson and Epiphone has many guitar models not only gibson lespaul or epiphone les paul. for example both Epiphone and Gibson has Flying V signatures model
just because it is an epiphone doesnt make it a fake, a les paul is les paul is the model. just like fender makes telecasters and squier makes telecasters too. thir owned by he same copanies, same sound and everything. the main difference is the price.
les paul o stratocaster? è come dire cago o piscio? tutte e due le cose ti fanno stare bene,ma in modo diverso!! vhe paragon di merda che fanno su youtube...
If I can give you a single tip when you make these video's, try and get a better microphone or video quality, even though 2007 YT didn't really allow it, you can't hear the distinct differences between the to on this sound level.
EXCELLENT! very good job with this demo of the two different sounds, ive never been able to tell the difference so clearly! and all the crappy commenters, this video is not on skill, its the guitars sound in different styles, but i must say there is no reason for anyone to leave a stupid comment cause you sound great, and all these licks are clean, great job man :)
All a matter of opinion and individual tastes. Both are great guitars. A Strat is far more versatile and everything sounds much clearer. I own a number of Strats and one Gibson les Paul. Strats are also far better value with the price of one being the same in the UK for the last 10 years. Gibson Les paul has been increased by a good 50% and is £1,00 more and I would always go for a Strat if the price was the same !
no, actually gibson was created in the late 1800s, and fender was a little later on.
if you mean by the solid body electric guitar, no. Les Paul brought his Idea to gibson, they declined, fender accepted. they did the first solid body guitar (the Esquire), but Les later went with Gibson since It was based on his Log guitar more. his log was actually the first solid body, and that was an Epiphone that he filled with wood and stuck pickups on.
a strat can never do what a les paul can and vise versa. each can approximate. Not only do they have different wood types but humbuckers will give u higher output than single coils. Neck angle on LP is for sustain, while strat is for tuning stability with whammy bridge. Set Neck vs bolt on. LP use 500K pots while Strat uses 250K. The values of the capacitors are also different. The Strat has a GIANT cavity which REAL LPs (pre-2008) dont have which aids in brightness. Thats why i have both. =)
i prefer fender guitars because my hands are too big for my to really be comfortable on a gibson scale neck. really though, its more a of a pickup/scale length thing for most people, i love my s-s-h ibanez to death.
The very first clip of the les paul was really straty sounding
Anyways, I think in general Les Pauls are better for heavier rock tones, but if the strat has a humbucker on it, then it can do those distorted tones really well also. That's really the difference between humbuckers and single coils: deep, warm, thick vs clear, punchy, and crisp.
I think that a fender strat with a humbucker in the bridge is possibly the most versatile guitar you can get. A good PRS can be more versatile, but really only a strat can do intesne SRV style texas blues.
yes, gibson pays too much in ther representants, and if you see, the mayory of the vids of fender vs strat, the tell too much of gibsons and nothing of fenders.
dude. its called an HSS stratocaster. it pwns all. combo of both, and a hell of a lot more versatile than the 2. U get your beautiful blues and funk tones, and then you can kick on the mad power and punk rock it out or metal or whatever is your cup o tea
@MetroidFreakPrime True. I think it comes down to your hand size: do you feel more comfortable playing a 24.75 scale neck (Gibson), or a 25.5 scale neck (Fender). Personally, there's nothing I can't play on my tele.
what sound you looking for mate depends if yur looking for a sex pistols sound got with les paul but u also need certain amp aswell but if u looking for a sort of green gay sound use strat and les paul
it's all about what you prefer, and what sounds best in your ears! because there is no doubt that gibson and fender know what their doing when it comes to really good guitars;)

@MetroidFreakPrime True. I think it comes down to your hand size: do you feel more comfortable playing a 24.75 scale neck (Gibson), or a 25.5 scale neck (Fender). Personally, there's nothing I can't play on my tele.
CodyCEngdahl 2 years ago
24.75. i know someone with a 25" neck with a gibson.
MetroidFreakPrime 2 years ago
@MetroidFreakPrime Then that's an aberration. They are typically 24 and three quarters. My Parkwood is 25, however. I really like it.

i went to beautiful humbucker pickups because i had trouble doing pinch harmonics on single coil

So I prefer the strat with a seimor duncan at the bridge. or an HHS strat with the floyd rose bridge and locking nut..

I will always prefer stratocasters to les pauls for a few reasons, mainly because:
I much prefer the sound of a stratocaster in all types of music.
I think strats are way more versatile imho.
I prefer the playability of a strat.
Les pauls are REALLY heavy!
I just think they sound better altogether.

strato sounds really clear

is that a slash series epiphone??
mercutio123franikin 2 years ago
In the soft tones and blues, soft rock stratocaster rules. Ibanez is beast in hard type of music, though!

I like the bridge pickup most. That kind of sound got balls, doesn't matter which quitar, which kind of pickup, bridge sound rullez :)

is it true that how slantly back the fret board is the longer the sound sustains?
valmore123 2 years ago
If your gonna do a comparison of a strat versus a les paul, do it with a U.S.A Fender Strat Vs a Gibson les Paul not epiphone
