  • Call her crazy or whatever, but she's cooking from the heart. Thanks to all the chefs like this who stick to their roots. If she's crazy about Kolaches, hopefully I will be after stopping by her eatery. Kudos! The world needs more people like this.

  • well, the "kolaches", which she bakes should be rather round, but that would take a lot more time, so I understand that she bakes them this way...

  • a woman after my mom's own heart <3

  • Yum yum :-) the best kolaches are definitely with poppy.

    Greetings from the Czech Republic.

  • Love her, LOVE Calvert, and LOVE her Kolaches. She made SURE we didn't leave Calvert without our Kolache order. Jodi is awesome.

  • Yep, she's crazy and I'll have one of each. Does she deliver to Atlanta ?

  • That is one very energetic lady. I would definitely love to buy some of her kolaches. They look delicioius and very unique flavors as well.

  • we went to Calvert just to have some kolaches..... Jody was such a nice lady, enjoyed spending time with her.... if you are driving through, it is well worth the stop....

  • Texas food!!! It comes from the four corners of Earth!!!! To the unbeatable TexMex, to BBQ and smoked meats that fall off the bone, to the great food of eastern Europe, kolaches, sausages, pirogis ( they're not just from Cleveland or Pittsburgh), and to wash it all down, plenty of cold Shiner beer. Yes, this Texas Messican just loves it all!!!!

  • A+ on the sanitation. I love the acrylic box at the end of the video. Customers get excited for such treats, but there are too many people that cough and sneeze on open food. I would feel good about eating there. Also, send flyers to Texas A&M. There are tons of office people that would place orders. That means you will have to get a driver! This is big!

would marry her right away...gosh, what am i talking!?

    Joe from Germany

  • She is just too cute!

  • Oh, you set my mouth to watering. I can't wait for the Tabor Czech Days in Tabor, SD so I can buy myself some Kolaches!!!!!!!!!

  • Why kolaches have not replaced donut in America is a mystery to me! It is one of those ethnics foods that everyone loves the first time they try it. So many flavors...so little time. Thanks Grandma

  • Oh my makes me want to move to Texas ! Grandma is smiling from heaven !

  • @apachejunction1

Every family has its own twist on a recipe. Its what you grew up with that comforts you. But my neighbor makes KILLER kolaches my family loves.

  • My mom is a bit OCD indeed, but her attention to detail is what makes the Zamykal Kolache the most authentic Czech Kolache outside the old country. If you think she seems a bit crazy...try growing up with her. Again, thank you all for your comments and we hope to be seeing you at the store or shipping you an order soon!

  • I am so thankful my mom has gotten so many loving reviews from you. I remember my grandmother and her sisters up early in the morning making my great-grandma Zamykal's kolaches with boisterous yet loving care.

  • This lady is too cool. Those Kolaches sure do look mighty tasty. I'll have to stop and try some! Keep on baking Jody!

  • It's great to see TCP on youtube! I was recently transplanted to TX from parts way north, and this lil show helps me to find people and places it would otherwise take a lifetime to know about. Thanks for sharing with us all!

  • Im from Texas and my grandpa is Czech, since ive joined the military since then and haven't had a kolache in god knows how long damn do i miss them... my home port of Norfolk VA has no bakeries how sad.....

  • Nothin like East Texas Kolache's...Oh how I miss them...delicious...my mouth is watering

if I am ever in Calvert I will make sure to stop.

  • What she bakes looks a lot like the old fashioned REAL kolaches that I remember from the Swobodas, Maseks and Otoupals from my childhood in Omaha. They also had them at the TWO Sokol halls that Omaha had.

  • Gosh those looked good. I am so sorry she has to work so many hours.

Ms. Powers, why don't you list your pastry on ebay, you can add the youtube video to your ads too and I bet you would sell a lot, you can send from Texas by priority mail most places in usa in 2 days.

  • Hope she is training someone the secrets of her trade to carry the business on to the next generation.

  • she seems OCD, but i bet the best kolalches in Calvert the next time in that are ill drop by that place, thanks for making this vid!

  • mmmm -- kolaches! What a beautiful lady.

  • she's crazy!!! for sure!!!!

would like to try one of those!!
