Are there any Mormons out there willing to stand up and account for the differing accounts of the first vision? Please don't say as one poster said that they are different for different audiences but they are harmonious. Ultimately, as Gordon Hinckley said that if the first vision be proven false than the entire religion is false (paraphrased). Is this what you are afraid of? Which was it: his bedroom or a grove, an angel or Jesus and the Father, and why was there no mention of it for years?

Though there are many similarities in each of the Gospels, there are also many items that are found in one account only, making a study of ALL the accounts necessary. This applies to the accounts of the First Vision. There is no point in cherry picking and double standard. More importantly Ask God Himself sincerely in prayer if Joseph Smith saw what he said.

Agreed, but a key difference between the real prophets of the bible, and 'joseph smith' is that the biblical prophets meet the test of a prophet spelled out in Deuteronomy 13:1-5. Mormons have attacked me "judge not, lest.." for speaking out against their doctrine and holding it to critical examination, but there exists no biblical proscription against professing against a false doctrine. The bible says we are to test prophets with FACT and TRUTH not with prayer about them.

Daniel, the old testament prophet was only 12 when the lord called him. Next the first vision only included God the father, and Jesus Christ. Angles then appeared after that and continued to appear until the dedication of the Kirtland, Ohio Temple. After that building was complete there was no more need for the angels.

I have retold experiences from my past to family members and have found myself recounting the same experience in slightly different ways and if scrutinized, I am sure you could say it may not be true becuase the stories conflict, even if each version was a real account of actual events... but the important point to the story is always there, and with Joseph, the important point was that he was called by God to be a modern day prophet.

What did Jesus tell Peter, James and John after they had seen Moses and Elijah? He said "Tell the vision to no man" Matt 17:9 He repeatedly told his Apostles to restrict what they told people about sacred experiences. Joseph followed this advice. He was a true Prophet.

Nobody is claiming that Joseph Smith was Jesus. He was a Prophet. Prophets are always despised and hated. False accusations are railed against them. If I listened to your enemies they wouldn't say kind things about you would they. Those who knew him said he was beyond reproach. He was a good man.

Much of the reaction to Joseph's claim to having had a vision was one of anger, rejection, ridicule etc. The rumours of Joseph being a fabricator were generated after his claims to having had a vision. Joseph was a Prophet and he did see the Living God. I'm sorry but its true.

Joseph gave different accounts for different audiences according to their circumstances. When he returned to his home that day, he didn't even mention that he'd had a vision other than to say that he now knew regarding which church he should join. All of the accounts were true. He did see Heavenly Father, Jesus and numerous Angels that day.

The first vision happened in 1820. He was visited by angels at other times such as in 1823. Thats what happens to real Prophets, you know. You'll be used to the false demonic prophets(Benny Hinn, Rodney Browne etc.)who push people to the ground and make them shake and laugh like demons.

Yes, I'm a life long member, I know the story. Problem is that all the different accounts were published as THE First Vision. The version you know was published in 1842. Clearly a combination of all the different stories. I wish people would read and find out for themselves after watching films like this one. It's really not that difficult to find trustworthy sources.

You have to remember that initially all of the accounts were word of mouth. Some of the accounts were retold incorrectly. Joseph initially said nothing about the First Vision other than that his question had been answered.

The 1832 account was written by Joseph Smith in his own handwriting. Photocopies are available to the public. Other versions were also published, like in the Kirtland LDS newspaper Messenger and Advocate, where Smith was the editor. The official version, printed first in Times and Seasons, has also been changed. However it is also true that some versions came from second hand sources. I advice you to read them all in full and judge for yourself.

Did Jesus actually teach one man- one wife? When I read the parable of the TEN Virgins Jesus uses polygamy at the root of that parable. At the end five bride enter into marriage with the Groom. Matthew 25:1 -13, Read the Bible, it would help.

Sorry, you have me confused with the FLDS. I have no part of that and do not endorse their brand of Mormonism. For the record: I cannot say enough against forcing children into sexual/marriage in the name of religion. The LDS faith is my chosen faith and it does not force any of its members to do anything.
